When are new clubs released? When are new clubs released?

08-27-2018 , 06:33 PM
I just bought a set of custom P79os yesterday and noticed an add today for PXG irons which will come out 9/14. While I'd never buy those, that got me wondering if I picked a bad time to buy? Do manufacturers, specifically Taylor made usually release their new clubs in the next few weeks?

Just depends on the manufactuer. Titleist is releasing their new driver and fairways in September which I understand is a bit earlier than usual.

I dunno about TM, don't really pay attention.

Seems like there is usually pretty decent intel out there for when new releases are coming -- Golf WRX forums have been on top of the new Titleist, new Ping irons, etc.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I did almost buy the AP3s before going to get fitted and they were what I originally thought I'd get especially after owning them for 25 years.

It sounded like the P790s were a whole lot better for you, and even if TM does release a new model who knows how they'll perform. The P790s get a lot of love, guessing that you'll be very happy with them.

You know, those are some darn fine points. Thanks for responding.

Define custom set.

Ping just released i210 and i500 irons. As already stated, Titleist is releasing TS2/3 woods next month. Mizuno will be releasing updates to their JPX line soon.

But most releases are in February immediately after the PGA Show.

I think they've slowed it down but you used to be able to count on Taylor Made releasing a new driver every other week.

Different than what you would get if you bought off the shelf. The shaft is a different one than a standard stiff shaft and it's also 120g vs 105g and counterbalanced. I haven't had a chance to call and ask what else is different. He told me, but I was pretty tired after swinging for an hour and a half and it was about 95 so all I could really think about was a nap 😂.

Where did you get fit? Who did the fitting? What are his qualifications? Did you pay for your fitting? What shaft is it? What differences did you notice while testing the different shafts? How many different shafts did you test? 120g is fairly heavy these days, how far do you normally hit a 7-iron?

Just trying to make sure you got your money's worth and such. Hopefully you'll love them.

Thanks. In Michigan. The place is called Miles of golf. From their website:

Golf Digest Top 100 Club Fitter
Titleist Regional Club Fitting Center (one of 4 in the country)
First off-course shop named Ping National Club Fitter of the Year
AGM 100 Best Golf Shop every year since 1999

They charge $100 and it's a 2 day fitting. The first day is irons. If you buy new clubs they credit that towards the clubs. They have a more expensive fitting as well what and that does not go towards the clubs so I opted against that.

I was swinging clubs for an hour so I don't remember all the shafts or differences. However, once we narrowed it down I'm pretty sure I hit 3 different shafts that I can remember with the Taylor Made irons. I don't remember the difference between the individual shafts specifically other than the one I selected had a tighter grouping. I'll ask which shaft it is. I didn't need to see the computer data because it was obvious just from seeing the results on the range. I got another 15 yards over my current, 25 year old Titleist DCI. I sure did love those clubs.

Bo knows infinitely more than I do but I will say that the people at Miles know their stuff.

Thanks. Good luck with the new sticks!

They arrived today and I'm really just blown away at the difference. Like I said I loved my Titleist. I used to be a single digit handicap, but haven't played much in the last 12 years and now I'm probably about 15-18. I hit my old clubs 15 yards less 20 years later, but the new clubs have given me my distance back.

It's like hitting on an air pillow. The ball comes off so soft and straight. I guess this is probably normal with clubs made in the last decade, but I was really missing out.

And swinging them just felt so nice and I guess balanced?

My friend let me use his spider putter and compared to my 20 year old putter, well... Night and day difference. It might be my next purchase, but this time I might wait for a sale!
