93. Held things together by getting up and down from everywhere through 8 (+3 after two putts somehow managed not to drop), then the wheels came completely off. I like to think I'm pretty decent at diagnosing my swing faults, but nothing I tried worked & I just could not hit a decent shot of any kind. Awful, awful golf.

Got a quick lesson after the round, hit some solid shots and I'm looking forward to going back out tomorrow.

Played my first round in a couple of months, and only second this year yesterday down in Gilroy at "The Best 11-hole Golf Course In The World". I've been having all kinds of shoulder/hand problems and my wife and I have both been very busy with work, so the golf time has really suffered. Shot 92 with a bunch of missed putts in the 5'-10' range (not that I'd make a lot of them, but I would expect to luck into a couple). The big challenge is just keeping my hands quiet. Hopefully I can get out some more after next week's business trip.

81 yesterday at my home course.

89 today at Eagle Eye in Bath, MI. Six doubles and a triple, hit way too many balls into the junk.

Keep in mind I am a 9 handicap right now and was playing against a collegiate golfer today. I gave him a good run for his money and had a good chance, but I choked a little on the back nine. Oh well. A fun experience.
So the kid I lost to in the first round went on to win the event. Pretty cool.

Last Friday I played at McGuire's Resort in Cadillac, Michigan.

Worst first hole in golfing history.

Drunk people in front of us leaving beer bottles all over the tees.

And I walked into a tree branch and almost poked my eyeball into next week. Man alive did that hurt and it was tough playing one-eyed for about three holes as tears were streaming down my face.

Broke 80 for first time today with a 77. 3 birds to start, failed to get up and down on 4th hole for bogey. Got a lucky kick outta the woods on 5 hit a good 2nd to 50 yrd, bad chip 2 putt for double. Got up and down on par 3. 2 putt par on the next par 5. Lipped out birdie putt on the par 3 8th. hit ob on 9 for double, out in 37. Shank drive on 10 poor 2nd to tree trouble (punch) 2 more to get on 2 putt for 7 (ah thats more like it). Recover with a up/down on par 3 11th. 2 putt par on 12, bogie the par 5 13th. stick a 5hy to 3 ft on the par 3 14th (ball rolled thru the flag shadow and disapeard momentarly for much excitment on the tee box). Tried to draw my 2nd (epic fail) on 15 and 2 put for a bogie. Miss birdie putt on 16 for par. Tried to hit a 60 degree for my 3rd from about 55yrds, leave it short and don't get up/down for bogie. 2 putt par on 18, in for 40. Headed back out tomorrow to let the varience catch up.

40+42=82 today at TPC Louisiana, where they play the Zurich Classic. Course was is great shape with very tough rough. Putted cross-handed for the first time today and it worked pretty well except I struggled with speed on the long putts. Think I might have found something.

Does anyone know if it's common to putt cross-handed for shorter putts and normal for longer lag putts?

I don't know about common, but it does happen. I tried that for a while but found it was messing with my aim, so I'm all cross which now feels more comfortable than conventional.

39 (par 35). Started out double-bogey-bogey then stopped trying to kill everything and the ball striking clicked into place. 2 foot birdie on 5, should have rolled one in on 7. Made a painful bogey on 9 - striped drive, slightly bladed wedge just over the back of the green, exquisite chip to 2 feet, yip. Lack of concentration, I guess, the match was over at that point.

First time this year I've actually wanted to play extra holes on Tuesday night, but a cold beer won out as usual.

Connundrum: I left my 53 degree wedge at my club the other day. But I vowed I would not go back there for a while because they closed 3 holes in freaking July to redo bunkers and routinely allow 5 somes to roam the course and play the holes in any order they so choose.

...I might be out a wedge.

Stopped and played Sand Creek Station on my way to see my sister in Kansas City. Awesome place! I was going to play the tips but it rained the night before and there was a 20mph north wind (yes, north wind in July lol) I get up on the first hole and decide there was no way in hell I could get to the fairway so I played the blues. I'm pretty sure they could just not mow the rough for a week and have a U.S. Open there. The blues seemed really long to me, I can't imagine playing the tips.

Anyway, I played very well except for two doubles, shot 77. If anyone is ever in the area of this course, definitely stop and play here!

Played Ruffled Feathers Golf Club today in Lemont, IL. It's a Pete and PB Dye course, and it's a doozy. Not the course to be playing while monkeying with your swing as I have been.

I carried nothing positive over from the range, and the changes I made with my swing, grip, etc. Shot 48-43=91 and didn't hit 1 good iron shot all day - they were all clunkers, literally. Most off the toe, some even missing the grooves again, no matter what I did to correct it. Had a 1 putt double, after having 80 yards left to the green in 2 on a 5 par, and another double when staring down the pin from 120 in the fairway. 3 other doubles to boot thanks to a washed ball (3), bad drive that forced a punch out and then missed green(18), and duff out of thick rough then missed green (5). One birdie on 2/18 GIR's and 7/14 Fairways most missed left. Just nothing good to say about my game short of the green (had 28 putts total on the green).

As for the course, I used my free round to get on from golfnow. I wouldn't pay the $97 they want for it regularly, but it's still a great course in great shape. It's Depaul's home course, and they have a private practice facility on site. Most greens are elevated and have very subtle breaks. Lots of sand and water to catch errant shots. Very nice houses around it.

2 lip outs for eagle, ****ty round.

41/38=79.

My avg drive is a good 290 now, and If I can only hit more fairways I would be better off.

Nope, that's Hawk's Eye. Eagle Eye is just outside of Lansing (and, oddly enough, has a sister course named Hawk Hollow). Nice track, visually VERY intimidating, misses are punished severely but you can score if your ball striking is on. I would definitely play it again and am planning on going back in August.

Incidentally, the 17th is basically a copy of the 17th at Sawgrass. Knocked it on, 2 putt par.

Played my 2nd round of golf ever today--went to Audubon Park (New Orleans), a very nice but very short course (par-62). Shot a 115 (57-58) thanks to a fairly liberal rewriting of the rules of golf and a few mulligans here and there. Had a couple of completely honest bogeys, and even a par on the tenth hole--if you don't count the mulligan I took after hitting my first tee shot into the water. Finished about ten shots behind my friends, though (who were playing by the same loose rules). Still pretty awful, but I can feel myself starting to get there. Hopefully I can get in another round or trip to the driving range by myself this week or weekend, and another round with my friends Monday or Tuesday.

40 (36)-40 (34), for an 80 at my home course. Improving rapidly. Every time I shoot my new best there, it's by at least a few strokes. For example, shot in the low-mid 90s consistently after a few weeks into the season, then broke 90 for the first time shooting an 86. Then I was shooting 85-88 for about a month until this round of 80. Hopefully I'm shooting mid 70s by the end of this season.

Played at Fox Bend Golf Coursein Oswego, IL today. It's about 2 miles from my new place, so I should've played it earlier. The course itself is in decent shape for a muni, but is built way too tightly together. You're basically a sitting duck on most fairways, and even some greens, from someone on an adjacent hole.

Shot a pair of 41's for 82. 2 doubles, 1 birdie. 6 Fairways, 6 greens. Still very inconsistent with my irons, and not getting the same kind of distance I can on the range, everything is about 20 yards shorter (which is still 10 yards longer than my old distances) so i'm a bit off on that.

Got paired up with a husband, wife, and ~25 year old daughter. She was a solid 7 I'd say. I'd also like to thank her publicly for wearing just a white sports bra and wifebeater to the course to cover the nice puppies with finished turkeys. She couldn't play very well, and had a boyfriend who was working, so no angle to play for me (let alone hitting on her in front of mom and dad). But the view was nice for 4:30.

Played 9 w/ my bro today for a little fun.

amazing how far ive been hitting my driver. The course was ok, but greens were in good shape for the course, very soft but rolled nice.

The rough was very hard, and I had 2 350 yard+ drives, almost reaching a 370 yard green.

8 pars 1 bogey.

Maybe its because I am playing from 3300 yards lately, and going driver wedge every hole, but my game has been pretty damn solid. Im seriously gonna play way more and be breaking par every round (lol yeah).

West Middlesex
Par 69, 6127 yards
48+44=92

I was hitting the ball well I had some very nice drives and I got round with out losing a ball but as soon as I got near the green I was in trouble. I had a few good chips but mostly I flubbed them short or pitched past the hole coupled with some very heavy handed putting I wasn’t able to capitalise on my ball striking.
42 putts, 8/13 fairways, 4/18 GIR
4 pars, 6 bogies, 5 doubles, 2 trebles

81. Getting closer. A couple chunked irons, two terrible shots out of the sand and a couple mediocre chips - otherwise good. Only one double.

Played Buffalo Grove Golf Course today. Nothing exciting about the course. It was really shaggy... I'm guessing they didn't mow after the rain last night. Greens were small, and there were some really odd pin placements on the sides of slopes. Wind was gusting about 25-30 at times, though most holes were straight into/behind.

Shot 40-43=83 and left like 6 shots out there with bad chips, a 3-putt, and heavy/thin approaches, some with wedges. 1 bird, 2 doubles. Hit the driver a lot better today, hitting 7/14 fairways but the ones I missed were mostly right where I was aiming or through the fairway. 5 GIR's. Iron shots other than those mentioned before were pretty good.

Have you heard of the Cleburne Golf Links? It is supposedly brand new and reasonably priced (and is "linksy"). I kind of want to try it out but I don't know.

I played at Hidden Creek in Burleson today and found it very fickle. I Hate hazards that if you hit them into, you have to drop, and pitch out.

Oh and I shot an 84. +2 through 8 ...

+5 on my last 2. My favorite hole was probably #17 where I made a triple and as I was walking to the green my thumb hurt so I looked at it and it was bloody. I thought that was pretty appropriate at the time.

I hit a lob wedge to 8 feet, drained that. Hit a lob wedge later to 2 feet, birdie there. Hit another lob wedge later to 4 feet and missed that because I suck. I wasted a ton of shots.

also my brother in law shot 77-77 in the mid amateur the other day. He is a former +4 like "most talented golfer i've ever seen" guy who developed what I am pretty sure is the full swing yips, so I was pretty pumped that he held it together there for 2 straight rounds.
