Played two rounds this week; it was a great week for golf.

Played the blues on both courses.

I golfed Como Golf Course in St. Paul, MN on Tuesday and shot the 2nd lowest round to date this year, and had a lot of fun with golf. I felt I played pretty well, and definitely could have played better.

43 + 44, 87

On Friday I went out to Brookview Golf Course in Golden Valley, MN, my home track. Shot my personal lowest round to date, and the lowest 9 hole score in my life. Played superb on the F9 as my scorecard will show.

39 + 44, 83

I took 4i off many of the Par 4's, and actually hit 4i, 5i, SW in on a 540+ yard par 5, and managed to par the hole. My driver has been a bit suspect lately, and I wanted some consistency so I left it in the bag and hit irons on a majority of the holes. It worked out fantastically, as I hit a bunch of fairways in reg. My putting was on fire (for me) too, as I managed 34 puts.

Finally the game is coming together.

You can check out my scorecards here:

Another round where i didn't break 90. This time at Village Links of Glen Ellyn, IL. Nice layout, lots of straight holes, pretty long at 6770 (7208 from the tips) and the tees were back and it was wet after the rain yesterday and overnight. So for a short hitter like me, it turned kinda nightmareish after a while with 200+ into the greens a lot. Particularly since I have 0 confidence right now in where the ball is going when I step in to hit. I don't remember ever feeling this way while playing golf. As for the course, I'd say its greens are its primary defense, and they did have the pins in a couple goofy spots on the slope, and they ran slow. Though if they were faster, I may still be out there putting.

As for my game... 5 duffs, 2 lost balls (both wet) along the way puts 2 doubles, a triple, and a quad on the card with a ton of bogies, and 4 pars. 33 putts, 6 fairways, 4 GIR's. 44-49=93.

39-39= 78

4th straight round in the 70s. Don't know if I've ever done that. Played somewhere else besides my home course and it was hot as hell, but fun. Like 6950 yards. My putting was very odd, I made maybe 6-7 8-12 footers, but they were all because I blew my first putt by like an idiot. Couldn't make a damn birdie. I drove it into a hazard for a double, drove it into another hazard for a bogey. I was chipping on 2 par 5s and just totally f'd those up and had to make difficult pars. Birdie those 2, take back a 3 footer I missed, and take away the stupid drive that led to a double...thats +1. Last few times I've played I feel like my scores are very average and there is actually room to improve. Sooo consistent for me.

Oh and my wife played with us for the first time in 8 months or so. Shot an 82. Not too bad.

I played in the SP Jermain Match Play Championship this weekend.

144 players teed it up on Saturday with the low 32 making it into the Championship flight. I was very relaxed and grooving my irons. Four birdies, four bogeys, 10 pars. Hit 14 GIR and played the 18 in 27 putts. My even par 71 was good for a tie for sixth.

Today was my first match...and my last.

I started par-par and was 2 down. Shot one over par on the front with one birdie and made the turn 1 down. There was hope until a costly three putt on number twelve sent me back to 2 down. The match ended 3 and 2.

Keep in mind I am a 9 handicap right now and was playing against a collegiate golfer today. I gave him a good run for his money and had a good chance, but I choked a little on the back nine. Oh well. A fun experience.

Welcome to DrOldSchool's bizzaro world of golf.

Today, after reviewing my schedule for the week realized I may not have time to get in a full round. So I forgo time on the range for 18 at Whitetail Ridge Golf Club in Yorkville, IL. Course reminded me a lot of one I played back home in Maryland a ton (Challedon) with subtle elevation changes, some marshy water with tall grass around it that is in play on about 1/2 the holes, and expensive houses around it. Not too long at 6129 from the blues (36-35=71 par). Seems to me the course's primary defense, aside from the water, would be wind, since it has no mature trees on it and it was pretty exposed (I wouldn't call it links style though). But there was none today.

The course has one of the oddest notes on the card I've ever seen:

Quote:
Whitetail Ridge Golf Club straddles the line between Na-Au-Say Township and Kendall township. The majority of the back 9 is located in dry Na-Au-Say Township. The beverage cart will not sell alcohol on the back nine.
The guys I played with said they will sell it if you go behind the tips on the 13th tee, but not on the tee, or the cart path. Like someone is watching or something. I know liquor rules can be a pain, but still, seems silly to me.

So how did I do? Well, I was still spraying my woods off the tee. But, I shot my best round of the year. 37-38-75. I duffed 2 shots, both of which wound up in the water. But I was able to save bogey on both holes (2 and 8) including a 50 foot bomb on 8. Basically I was able to get away with the shots that I sprayed since they stayed in play, and almost always had a clear path to the green. 3 birdies, and there could've been 5 had a couple not softly lipped out. 6/13 Fairways, 11/18 GIRS.

As for my swing, still not making solid contact, with a lot towards the toe. But my soft cut iron shots worked well today. However, i'd still like to get out of this habit. Particularly off the tee.

Added bonus, next round is free from golfnow. Another reason to use that site if you can, I guess, they give you a free round after every booking ending in 5 (5,15,etc).

80. Much more normal than yesterday's chopfest. One birdie, one double and a flock of bogeys. Hit some of my best drives of the season and reached one of the par 5s (leading to a 2 putt birdie).

Oak's of St. George

128 Slope, 71.8 Rating
6363 yards

37 + 37 = 74

4 Bogies, 2 Birdies.

Finally found the solution to my driver woes, was long and accurate all day long. Putter was hit and miss, made some good ones but hit a few really piss poor putts as well. Shooting under par was a real possibility today, and it really helped with my overall confidence and attitude towards the game. Starting to really enjoy myself again during a round, and am willing to trust my skills and get creative. Hopefully I can continue the streak and break 75 for the 3rd time in a row when I play tomorrow.

Shot my new low round! 78, althought it was a really easy course. Funny thing was, I was 6 over through the first 4 holes and 1 over on the last 14.
On hole 17, I saw the closest attempt I've ever seen to an albatross as my brother hit a high cut drive headed right at the green that we all thought had a chance and when we got up there had finished pin height about 4 feet from the hole. Of course, he lips out and taps in for bird.

played solid for first 13 holes, then wind picks up. very tough, played very good, and some shots were good and end up bad.

By far the most undulating greens i can remember.

I have noticed my back 9's are pretty bad, I think I just get tired and give up.

82(+11) after a sick 74(+5) yesterday. Playing the best golf of my life but..

Today I was fighting a overdraw and some major pull hooks on my driver and the occasional mega slice. I think I'm just letting my arms continue to fly back even when I'm starting my downswing and if I turn to my left side correctly I'm getting the pull/overdraw a lot.

The few times I focused on ending my backswing a bit early with my driver, I hit some nice 250ish drives which is big for me. I'm guessing this carrying over to my iron play which is just an overdraw and not really a pull.

Short game is in God mode and saving my ass.

my buddy and I played in a 2 man tourney from our work league. 27 holes in grand prairie TX. 9 holes best ball 9 alt shot 9 scramble.

We won mostly due to our 25 net on the best ball portion. My buddy is an 18 handicap in our league and shot a 45, lolz. I've never seen him close to cracking 50/100 in the 3 years i've played golf with him.

westhoff, I get a ton of email from stewart peninsula. I think I might have played there once a couple of years ago, what's it like?

49. It takes a special kind of suck to shoot +12 with only 13 putts while hitting the ball solid. Longest drive of the season on the 8th to boot.

38+43=81 today at Carter Plantation in Springfield, LA

Hit the ball probably as well as I ever have, but I had a few slight misses that ended up in fairway bunkers and over 10 ft. elevated greens.

9/14 fairways
11/18 greens
35 putts - 3 3-putts
2 birdies
8 pars
5 bogeys
3 doubles

Highlight of the round: sticking a 7 iron to 5 feet on an uphill par 3 playing about 160 and making the bird.

Lowlight: Managing to bogey a par 5 from 1 inch off the green in two. Basically a four putt from about 25 ft.

lol. This reminds me of my round the other day. I was +14 through 7 holes. I was hitting the ball solid and the putting felt good. I was like 5 yards off on every shot and every shot ended up ****ed.

47 from the blues. chunked a bunch of wedge shots, although i did put 1 chip close and sank another. just amazing how on some days my short game is awesome and my tee shots suck, and on other days it's exactly the opposite.

Par71 shot 72, 1up on my hcap but rated 70 so my hcap wont move, but reason im posting is for the Teams event we played.

it was a 1-2-3 event, where the group of 4 is in a team and you take 1 stableford score on hole 1, 2 scores on hole 2, 3 scores on hole 3, 1 score on hole 4, 2 scores on hole 5 , ect ect.

Playing in a 3man team, its obviously very tough to even get in contention for the win. We came 2nd with a score of 90pts, i couldnt believe how well we combined and we only lost by 1shot.

90 from the Blues(very long) at a newly renovated course nearby that is absolutely fabolous. Every hole is inclined or declined and every shot is off a side lie so that's a HUGE diff for most Florida players. The greens were tough as hell to read & 10x faster than anything I normally play, so I'm pretty stoked with the way I played. Some meh pics below, doesn't do any justice.

My only problem is I can't drive the ball. I'm making such a sweet iron swing and it's not carrying over. Any advice? I'll try and get some video up tomorrow.

Was getting killed in our skins game today despite being just 5 over after 20 holes at Coyote Creek in San Jose. Managed to make a birdie and an eagle on the last two holes to collect 36 bets, going from a 26 bet loser to a 10 bet winner. The eagle was especially satisfying as I somehow managed to hit a 260 yard hybrid out of a divot in the rough to 20 feet dand rolled in the putt when there were two guys already in the hole with birdies. Finally feel like I'm starting to play pretty decently...

crazy round.. I like to play tips, its 6600, where we played its like 6100, so its all driver/wedge.

1st hole: Par 5, bout 35 yards into the wind on 3rd shot. Spins right back to the cup, almost in for eagle.

4th hole; 355 yard par 4. Down wind.. Basically on the fringe right off the green. So yeah it was a bomb. Up and down for eagle
5th hole: big dogleg right but its only 260 yards. Drive way left, get on and make the putt for birdie. Now i am 3 under.

6th hole; 310yd par 4. 15 footer for birdie in the whole way, then just lips out and im like wtf.

Bogey a hole, and finish -2 34.
