Played a scramble on Friday, six under on a wretched country club course. I hadn't played it in 22 years and it can be at least another 22 before I play it again. Stupid, stupid layout. It was fun to make some putts though.

86 at my home course on Saturday. A curious mix of the inept and the sublime. Jarred a 40 footer for a birdie on five, cozied my second shot to three feet on the par four sixth, missed and it was mostly downhill from there.

Had another great golf moment. Par five on the back nine. I flushed a hybrid onto the back of the green, which would be great except the pin is on the front. From where I am, I have no idea how to get it close. There is a ridge between me and the hole - hit it too soft and the ridge takes it left and away from the hole, leaving me a lengthy downhill screamer, probably with a bunch of break. Hit it too hard and it clears the ridge and then catches a slope going hard right and downhill that would be about fifty on the stimpmeter. Basically, you have to die it on top of the ridge in exactly the right spot so that it rolls downhill into the hole, otherwise it doesn't stop. Not quite a one in a million shot but harder than hell to get it within eight feet.

I chose too hard (by a little), just missed the cup but it was picking up steam as it went by. Since that first one ended up six feet off the green, it'll go in the books as only a three putt.

1) play a course with ridiculously slow, crappy greens
2) play a course with fast greens and don't hit the practice green because you have an early tee time and the practice area is closed along with the course due to a frost delay
3) ???
4) 4 putt the first green and 3 putt the next two to start off +5, then play the best golf of your life getting all pars sans 1 bogey, 2 birdies and an eagle and then die when you realize what you could have shot if you simply putted like a human being on the first 3 holes

Played one of my favorite courses from the championship tee. 6,850 yards including a 620 yard par-5.

Shot 44-39-83 on aerated greens. I need a couple more good rounds to send me into the wretched winter. Winter sucks.

Highlight was holing out a pitch for par from about 20 yards out!

okay so there is a lot of back story to this -- after all, how the hell could a 12-13 handicap shoot 1 over?

first and foremost i would call this my home course. i have played it more than 20 times since june, so to say that i know it well would be an understatement.

second, i usually play the tips at this course, but i was paired with a group of older golfers so i moved up a box and played the blues (only 6000 yards).

third, the course has 5 par 3's and only 3 par 5's (hence par 70).

fourth, everything that could go right today did. if there was a lucky break, i caught it...in fact, i didn't pick up a score over par until #10.

2) [par3] struck a mid iron inside a foot of the pin for an easy birdie. from the teebox it looked like i would make my first hole in one.

5) [par3] trying to draw the ball into the pin i accidentally hit a pull across my body that cut at the very last second, landed 2 feet passed the pin, and spun back inside 6 inches. for the second time on the day i almost had my first hole in one (would have been a pretty damn lucky one ha!). easy birdie.

6) [par5] flubbed my greenside eagle chip and 2 putted for par.

7) [par4] hit an approach shot out of fairway bunker 150 yrds out to 10 feet. made the birdie putt to move 3 under after 7.

9) [par4] delofted my approach shot and missed it short right. hit a chip to 10 feet or so below the hole. drilled the putt for par.

11) [par5] ran my greenside eagle chip 20 feet passed the hole, 2 putted for par.

12) [par3] only 3 putt of the day. (first putt was from 30+ feet).

14) [par5] hit my greenside eagle chip inside 10 feet, but landed on the wrong side of the hole. lipped out a hard breaking birdie putt.

16) [par4] drove the ball out of eyesite and right. after looking for it for a good 5 minutes i gave up and took my only penalty on the day. ended up with a double.

18) [par4] stuck my approach shot inside 10 feet. lipped out a birdie putt.

all in all i had the opportunity to shoot well under par today, but i couldn't quite bring everything together.

as the round progressed, particularly on the last 5 holes or so i started to really fall apart -- my swing got faster, my tee shots less straight etc...lots of pressure when you're staring at the best round of your life.

finally, i'm not sold on this score counting for the monthly leaderboard at oobgolf. although it is the best round of my life, i did play up an extra tee box than i normally do here.

i followed up the best round of my life with possibly the most frustrating. i hit well over 1/2 the fairways and greens today, but i could not find the hole.

i played MUCH better than i scored. i had 4-3 putts today (including 3 on the front) and 1 4-putt (GIR) on the back.

all in all i was 4 over on the back coming into 18 and hit a quadruple bogey.

i shot 74 (+4) today at my home course royal colwood in victoria, bc. greens are getting crappy winter style which is too bad. haven't played much so i'm happy. even got some birdies woop woop!

80 OMG YES I FINALLY PLAYED. Obviously, I am questioning my ability to play and then I go out and slam dunk a bunker shot for birdie on the first hole, and drill a 25 footer for birdie on the second hole. Had some bad breaks, but w/e, it was so nice to enjoy the "plentiful sunshine" (weather.com).

I could barely swing b/c of my cankle, but I did this kind of stack and tilt type thing where I didn't shift my weight at all to my right side. Really improved accuracy and promoted solid contact imo. Wedges are a piece of cake. Missed 2 short putts, had basically a 4 putt....besides that all was pretty good considering. Hit my foot on the cart some weird way and it almost brought me to tears. I keep thinking I am being a vagina and that I am fine b/c I can walk around without limping, but then I do something like that and remind myself that I am definitely not healthy yet.

A glorious day; bright sunshine a warm breeze the leaves red, orange and golden on the trees, perfect for golf.
Weston Turville is a weird course some one had enough space to build sixteen holes but cunningly managed to cram in all eighteen. On some tees you play over other people fairways or greens but the fairways are generous and it’s all in good condition.
I played OK off the tee and manly from the fairway too but once with in a PW of the green my game fell apart too many three puts too many fat pitches too many heavy handed chips. Oh and two penalties for moving the ball at address didn’t help either.

85. Despite the mediocre score and a lousy double-double-double finish, still happy. Beautiful 70 degree day. The poa on the greens has died out and they're rolling great - although that does have some drawbacks, like being above the hole = death.

On a par 4 on the front, I hit a routine wedge about six or seven feet past the hole. Our club champion hit it just outside me, so he putted first on pretty much the same line. He's the best putter I've ever seen (non-Tour division). This is a touch putt - it's pretty flat to slightly uphill with a little right to left break until 18 inches before the cup, when it becomes straight downhill. He hits what looks like a perfect putt - it dies on the top of the slight rise and barely trickles toward the cup. The ball misses right edge and starts picking up steam. Nine feet later, he's got a comebacker for par.

This of course scared the crap out of me and I left my first putt short - about two revolutions from the crest. I barely touch my two footer, miss, and I have a twelve footer coming back. Argh.

Somehow I kept pull hooking drives OB left, which is amazing since I've never hit a draw in my life with a driver before today. Scrambled hard on the back with a series of penalties and duffs bailed out by good chipping. A 3-putt from 3 feet really killed my attempts to get the round on track. Super cold day (60 degrees) didn't help either. Meh.

Yikes. Played in the autumn medal yesterday. Made 17 stableford points. Except for one hole I picked up close to the hole when not getting points. So it would be around 115. To my defence I have changed my swing a bit, now standing a couple of clubheads further from the ball and much more upright. In the end it will be better.

I really need to get some practice. Did hit a couple of buckets today, though.

Played the Par 5's badly, but the rest well.

93 at wide open course (trees-wise). could miss fairway many, many places. but windy, wet, tough pin placements and alot of water.

ball striking (both drives and irons) were really coming around at end. starting to be able to draw my drives. that will great if it continues.

is it possible for every hole to be somewhat into the wind, without a shuttle van picking you up at the end? it sure felt like 14-15 were into wind somewhat.

went out today for what could be the last round of the year and beat my previous best score by 10 strokes

i have one of the worst slices you'll ever see but i saw this tip in a different thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49sICRHbEw4 and played the entire round using that grip. although it couldn't help me with the driver (still a mega slice machine) every iron shot was either straight or a slight draw.

shot 48-42-90 with 32 putts and 7/14 fairways in reg using irons only... i also chipped better than usual and only had 2 3-putts which is very low for me. pretty good way to end my first real summer of golf, can't wait until next year.

40 (17) on ASU Karsten front 9, par 34. Two bad drives and five bad approaches account for the bogeys. Lipped out two ~15 foot birdie putts. One approach was screwy because I couldn't get a good yardage. It looked to be about 140-145 to a back pin which would be a good 8 iron. But I had to step it off at a weird angle from the 100 yd marker and there was a lot of trouble short so I hit a soft 7. Killed it 20yds over the green and couldn't get up and down.

Tired, hungover, late and straight to the first tee saw me open triple-triple-double-double. Drove the ball well after that, and putted pretty well also. After that start I was just happy to salvage 99 and keep my career best string of sub-100 rounds intact at 9 in a row.

all in all this was probably my best ball striking day ever. i got all my wedges to spin and sit and had a really great day with my approach shots. unfortuantly my putter wasn't working as i had 3, 3 putt gir's and missed 2 birdie putts inside 6 feet.

i have a feeling ill be killing this golf course now that my game has improved over the past few months. unfortuantly it's such a short and easy course that im not going to count it towards monthly oob leaderboard.
