Played in a scramble today at
Talking Rock outside of Prescott, the fourth course I've played in Northern Arizona in the last few weeks. It's a moderately interesting course - the front nine is annoying and bland, the back nine is great - and we won easily. This is one of many private courses in the state that I've heard are having trouble meeting their membership goals. In this case it is way out in the sticks, nowhere near shopping or dining on a road to nowhere. It can't be attractive to anyone who isn't retired or has any sort of social life. And the homes they've built are no great shakes and are really close together, although substantial swaths of the course are blessedly free of these shacks. As was the case the previous times I was there it was in fantastic shape and I recommend that everyone play it if they can.
