clark, i think you need to go putt for like 5 weeks straight. The fact you have had 0 rounds with under 30 putts is very very very disconcerting. It is *hard* to get better at hitting the ball and to keep that consistent, but putting is something you can easily control.

had a first yesterday...i hit 18 greens at my home course and shot 68. i have hit 17 greens a couple times and 16 probably half a dozen but had never hit all 18 in one round so that was pretty cool. also bogey free round obviously.

90 at one of the top 50 courses in canada........ almost all bogeys. very little adventure on tee shots or right around the green. but alot of chunks, skulls, duffs etc. from 80 yards in. and most longer approaches to green just went in that general vicinity. very little accuracy on approaches......... lightening quick greens. i actually think they are alot easier than poor greens. true roll, and you can usually see the break clearly.

anyway, 90 with easily 7-8 wasted strokes.... then my game needs alot of work to get to the level beyond that.

I'm 3 over with 3 to play on a par 72, then I double the par 3 16th with a ball in the drink off the tee. On 17 I hit my drive under a tree, knowing I could make a double and still break 80 I decide to risk going for it (plus I'm probably going to make double more than half the time anyway even if I lay up). Branch contact was minimal but it was enough to mess me up and I end up topping and leaving it short of the hazard and about 70 yards from the green. At the top of my backswing on my pitch shot I let out a fart, catch the shot a bit thin and miss clearing the hazard by a yard. DOH!!! I triple the hole and just missed making a birdie on 18 out of the sand for an 80.

I did break my putting record with just 25 putts for the round.

First tournament round in 6 years....80.

Guy in my group shot 65.

Felt pretty calm really. I missed TWO two footers on back to back holes...what a choking aids bag i am... and left probably 3 or 4 more shots out their chipping because I have fought chipping yips really bad and am still pretty not good at all. Oh well, I actually feel alright with the fact I didn't blow up or anything. Playing 2 hour rounds by yourself is in fact a lot different than playing 5 hour rounds in 4 somes with guys who shoot under par.

36 holes today. Spazzy at times. Short game horrific. Putting issues exacerbated by greens at Paiute that were probably stimping at 11 vs. TPC which may have been at 8. Never really adjusted and super gusty conditions didn't help. Round exemplified by a GIR on a par 3 at Paiute, maybe 30 feet, 5 putts, triple. Awesome. My only positive is that it wasn't that long ago that 97 and 100 would have been good scores, and now I'm pretty pissed at them.

18 more tomorrow with an almost certain hangover. Sweet.

Starting to steadily lower my handicap. another 96 on a hot day in upstate ny, Parkview Fairways, which was in pretty bad condition. almost no difference between rough and fairway in terms of grass cut. no penalties or lost balls (finished with the same ball!). a few nice GIR's. a few one putts, including one sick birdie on a par 5 that i drained from 25 feet. a couple nice birdie chances on par-4's that didn't work out.

i played without warming up and my chipping was atrocious. felt myself losing focus sometimes, so had to try to keep it together.. but kept really big scores off the card, no worse than a 7. oh yeah, 37 putts! is that good? average? mediocre? felt like a whole lot better than what i usually do.

Sorry in advance if this sounds dickish, it's not meant to be it's just an honest piece of advice.

37 putts is pretty mediocre. You should be able to get down to around 30 putts per round by practicing your short game, especially since you probably aren't hitting too many greens in regulation.

no offense taken.

i realize that it's probably mediocre. it's just that back in may and june i was averaging 45+ putts per round.

Man, I played at the worst golf course ever. I wouldn't even call it a real golf course... more like a blown up miniature golf course. There were like 5 holes where the green was just on a HUGE mound (the greens weren't flat either). The worst greens ever, a couple were just mushy. A couple with dried up mud on em... the rest just bumpy as hell. The balls wouldn't roll, they bounced their way to the cup. You were always hitting from the dirt or mud, hardly any grass. There's also a 250 dog leg left par 3... you can't even see the green from the tee box.

We just treated the course as an amusement park and tried to make all the hero shots.

Tale of two nines. Basically tilted on the front after a great ball striking start failed to result in scoring due to continued bad putting. Rallied hard on the back and could've shot 40 and should've shot 41.

Meh, for someone that shoots around 100, 37 is not that bad. Realistic goal should be 33-34 avg. 30 is just ridiculous, without looking it up I think the tour average is just under 30. Fwiw, I probably average 31-32 and shoot around par.
