Did a 9 hole xmas mixed scramble yesterday.
I got paired with 2 older women and 1 older man when I meet him, he said he could barely walk 9 holes. Think the women were off like 54 and 40 handicaps and the man was off 23 ish. Worked out we were off 6, Everyone had to have 2 tee shots.
We ended up winning with a -1 score we won on countback a lot of other teams had the same score.
Start the highlights on the 3rd We did start on the 9th, but we made 3 standard pars. We were bang average up till the green on the 3rd. It's a par 5 so it’s really on me and I didn't really turn up on this hole. I hit the approach shot in to about 25 feet, but we were putting for a 5. 1st Women steps up and nails it.
4th hole Par 3 about 170. I hit my tee shot into a bunker (GUR) We had a chip that was about 30 yards or so. They all messed it up. We had about 15 feet for par before I went. Hit a good chip with the 60 and put it to a foot.
5th hole 120-yard par 3 with a sucker pin. If you don't carry it all the way, there you're in some sloppy rough. They all went for it and missed short. I stuck one on the green for safety about 30 feet, got down there and it really made sense not to take my ball on the green, it was a tough chip but given the shot situation and the holes coming up I mentioned we should just take one of the women shots. They all agreed, It was a short sided chip I sort of knew the best they could do is probably 15 feet or so which one got it to 8 feet. Allowed me to sort of get more aggressive with it and put it to a foot. Level Par up till now.
6th hole long 420-yard par 4. I probably hit it about 220 middle of the fairway no roll whatsoever given it's so wet. Have about 200 left. Again, all carry. The ladies hit it about 100 yards down the fairway which was good. The older gentlemen said I'll leave this to you as he had a bad back. Put me in a tricky spot. I was hoping he could just hit a 180 shot and I had the freedom to pull out a wood. Woods for me are rarely good so decided on rescue. Hit it like 190, simple up and down was nice to hit all the shots on this hole.
7th short par 3. I think by now everyone, but the older gentleman had used all their tee shots obviously someone could have one extra. The man hit it short, and I hit it to about 15 feet. I did ask him if he ok about hitting his tee shot down the 8th. He was fine. We all just missed the putt for a birdie.
8th Par 4. He nails his driver down the middle couldn't ask for better really. One of the women puts it pin high just off the green. Which I was very confident of getting up and down just by myself. I chunked my wedge slightly but somehow it rolls up onto the green to about 6 feet
... They all missed their putts and I roll it in.
Like I said a lot of teams were on the same score as us. The team in 2nd we were tied on the last 6 then the last 3 so we had to go back hole by hole and fortunately we got a birdie on 8 which won it for us. Was so nice to see the others in my team win. The 54 HC said she just started playing golf a couple of months ago, so she was pretty happy. Ended up getting some decent meat vouchers for Xmas.
This event got pushed back because of bad weather but they drew the teams out. Now there are only a few single digit handicaps at our club and me and this other guy are the lowest basically the same handicaps. They put us together with two 54 handicaps and we would have got 6 shots which would have been insane. We both get 7 shots around 18 holes round this place
thank God they did a redraw to make it a bit fairer.
