Pretty meh front 9. Double I toe shanked 2nd shot and snookered myself I had to chip out and couldn't get up and down for a 5.

Best hole was the 7th long up hill hole. Hit a good driver think I had about 200 left in hit a 4 iron to about 12 feet. Just missed the putt for birdie but a good Par in the end. Saved the score on the back 9.

Last hole is a really short par 4 I was really looking forward to this hole got to the tee and was like WTF! they moved the tee up and I couldn't really go for it as I can't hit a cut. The tree in front of the tee box is way to close when the tee is back you're hitting over that hut and normally if you're not on the green its in that front bunker which isn't a bad spot. Ended up hitting a mid iron short of that fairway bunker and wedging on and 2 putting.

Defo left a few stupid shots out there though mainly just short putts probably 2 or 3 inside 4 feet. One of them was when a playing partner was just talking all the way through the putt his awareness is pants he does it quite often.

**** em, he's a member, why shouldn't he play if he wants to?

Nobody would complain if he was a 10, it's just typical complaining when somebody is "too good".

So you got to play 'The Road Hole' and went with iron?

How about a 3/5 wood that you could draw more and get it up in the air quicker?

Can't imagine the number of balls hitting the club house and such when all the pressure of #18 is weighing on Players .. GL

The tee was to far up and to far on the right side to even consider going for it. The tree is quite a tall and is quite dense and the bottom of it is actually probably around head height as it's on a hill. I tee the ball fairly high anyway with a driver and have a pretty high ball flight normally hitting over stuff isn't really a problem but this wasn't doable imo. Regarding the woods I only have a 3 wood and I suck with it not sure what it is about that club I just can't hit it I think when the weather goes I'm going to leave the driver at home and force myself to use the 3 wood as much as possible.

Made my first albatross the other day on a 509 yard par 5 that was playing straight down wind, so the second shot was a high flying PW. Tough day in the wind otherwise.

9 hole league match tonight

1st vs 2nd basically for all the marbles.

I don't know this guy but as said before people have told me he is a bit of a bandit. I ended up giving him 6 shots.

1st hole shot hole. I hit it about 240 down the right side. He hits it just a little further on the same line. I hit my approach to about 15 feet. He hits his to about 8 feet. I drain my birdie putt hopefully putting a bit of pressure on hit but he nails his birdie putt. 1 down.

2nd hole no shot. I end up making bogey hitting a terrible approach thought I got away with it as he chunked his approach, but he put his next shot to 3 feet a holed the putt. 2 down.

3rd hole shot hole. Par 5 Both make Bogeys (Terrible 3 putt from me)

4th hole shot hole long par 3. He pulls his shot left. I do the same and end up in the bunker. He has about a 50-yarder pitch shot blind sticks it to 10feet. I over cook my bunker shoot and have a chip for Par nearly goes in just a little short. Didn't matter though he holed the Par putt. 4 Down.

5th hole short par 3 no shot. I make Par he makes bogey. 3 down

6th hole long par 4. I'll fast forward to the green. He has a putt for par just off the green about 40 feet. Nearly goes in ends up making 5. I must chip in and end up miss losing 4&3.

So, after that experience he isn't a 26 handicap I'd say he is probably a single digit but if I had to put it into a range 8-12 handicap, I would say ... I was talking to him, and he said he used to play when he was a kid and used to play off 7, I was like well that's great then ... I kind of knew I was going to get smoked today granted I didn't bring my game today but even if I did, I don't really think I would have stood a chance.

I told the guy to call the league if he wants to as it's kind of fizzled out and people haven't been playing their matches. I have 1 match left and for me to come 1st I'd have to win 5&4 vs a guy who hits it a mile just isn't going to happen. I'll end up finishing 2nd. With a record of 18 Wins 3 Draws and 3 Losses.

43-40 83 Saturday in a bestball where we were 80 as a team so not great as a team - lots of covering each other up and we had one team bridie and a double (my only double sigh)

73 in a 2-man scramble Sunday and we were bad. Decent enough off the tee but not great to leave ideal approaches for a scramble. Then my iron play on non par-3s was awful the whole weekend so that sucked. Our only two birdies were making a 30 and 40 footer up and down a slope so kind of lucky ones. Misses from like 12, 15, 10 and 8 feet for our "decent looks".

So never in contention for our flight - 9 back gross and we were among the low handicaps in our flight so way back net.

Was in Austin this week, played UT Golf Club twice with a friend who is a member there.

Sunday, shot 40-45, 85. Played the white tees which was ~6600 yds. They had their club championship earlier in the day so the pins were tough, and it was stupidly windy. Actually hit the ball well, but just couldn't get the ball in the hole. Greens were very fast and pins were on slopes. I 3-putted the first 3 holes, I think I had 5 or so 3-putts overall. That's probably by far the best I ever hit the ball in a round of 85.

Played again today and moved back to a combo tee which was ~6800 yards. It was windy again but not quite as nuts as Sunday. Shot 42-39, 81. Hit it similar to the first day, short game wasn't quite as good, putting was much better.

Overall its a super cool course. There is room off the tee. But the greens are super difficult, it gets harder as you get closer to the hole. I heard the guy who won their club championship had 81 on the last day. I'm guessing they have some insanely good members... The Jordan Spieth, Ben Crenshaw Tom Kite photos all over the place are pretty cool.

Ducked out for 9 at lunch yesterday and shot a 43 from 3100 yards. Finished final 3 holes -1, which was tons of fun. Range was closed so no warmup, and I started off pretty rough with a double on the par 5 1st, bogie on the 2nd, triple on the par 4 4th, but managed to par the 5th and 3-putt bogie on 6.

On 7th, a short dogleg par 4, I duffed my tee shot just in front of the ladies tees, hit a 5w over the trees to the apron (extremely stupid aggressive line), chipped to 1 foot and tapped in for par. On the 8th par 3, I hit a PW to 10 feet, routine 2 putt. On the 9th, a very difficult 430 yard par 4, I hit a shortish drive, and had 215 in, hit one of the best 5i of my life to 3 feet, drain for birdie.

Love golf

Nice!

Me - 35-36-71

4 birdies, 3 bogeys

Knocking down the flagstick early. Had a stretch mid- round where I went 3,3,3,4,4,3,3 (birdie, par, birdie, bogey, par, par, birdie)

Literally hit the stick on 15 after putting my drive in the water, dropping ant hitting the stick solidly, make 2 footer for par.

I feel like we should have a dedicated thread where we can post holes and get input about a strategy. I’ll leave that up to you guys if you want it or not.

So, I have this hole at my local. I find this one of the hardest holes at least off the tee. It’s a Par 5 about 510ish.
In a medal I usually hit a 4 iron which we get in line with the bushes or just short of them. If slightly pulled or pushed I usually have a shot. If I’m in the rough for my 2nd shot, I’ll usually have anything between 150yards – 190 yards left into the green for my 3rd. I play it this way just because the worst I make from here usually is a 6.

I used to bat driver off this tee all the time until I got sick and tired of taking drops because of the bushes. The Bushes are right at my landing zone so basically, I have a 30-yard window to hit through. My miss is normally left. So, if I do pull it a little, I can be in the crap marked red. Which is dead in that you’ll basically getting a wedge out and just getting out, for that to happen though I must hit it well and sling it a bit. Hit a good one and my 3rd shot will be anything to 130ish to 80 yards left into the green. Obviously, a good birdie chance if done. I will rarely miss the ball right, but the orange bit isn’t so bad it’s not super thick rough and it’s the shortest line to the green. If I’m good off the tee, I’ll be making Par at worst usually. If not, a decent tee shot, I’m looking at double or triple in the eyes. I have had that thing when people say just aim right well the more, I do that more I seem to miss left.

Wondering what you guys think? I was watching Bryson the other day in one his videos and he said people play too conservative off the tee and then too aggressive into the green he then went onto say it should be the other way around. Which its why I’ve been questioning this shot a bit. I do have a 3 wood in my bag but hate hitting it. Next club is a rescue but probs goes about the same distance as my 4 iron but my 4 iron I can get the launch a bit lower.

That seems like a pure SG analysis, if your driver puts the orange and red in play, ad 4i gets you to the bushes, then it's a pretty straightforward decision. Bushes/lost ball/unplayable/recovery shot is a huge penalty, I'd think that 5i may be the club here until you feel comfortable bombing over the bushes with the driver while eliminating the left miss.

31 y wide is not a reasonable dispersion at >200 yards, especially with driver. That seems like a trap

So if you hit it into the trees with a driver can you drop and hit your next shot within 100ish yards from the hole or no? I'm just guessing no but if you can I think it's worth the risk. Laying back and having 190 yards into a par 5 for your 3rd you are almost guaranteeing yourself a bogey. IMO that's just way too far to lay back.

Also one other question. IS it possible to go over these trees at all either with a drive or if you lay back far enough?

No I don't believe if I have to take a drop which will be in some rough and you'll have to go 20 or so yards back to be hitting a decent distance club.

I can fly these bushes they are not tall about 15 feet or so however, I have to hit a good one. I can't fly these if I hit a cut but I hardly hit a cut.

I played today and went with a driver didn't hit it great and went into the bush. Hit a provisional and nailed it as you do and got quite far down there I couldn't find it ended up with a triple. I also hit a 4 iron off the tee as a practice and was 5 yards short of the bush but in the fairway ended up with a 4. I had 150 in for my 3rd and holed a 20 footer. Today was raining and wet with a slight into the breeze. So on a normal dry day without wind it could be just a 5 iron or Driver.

What would be good is my old shotscope watch unfortunately I sold it. Looking to get the new range finder they have with the shot tracking on it as I don't really like playing with a watch. This way I can run a little test over a good amount of time.

I’m confused on the math here if you lay back is it like a 175/175/150 three shot hole? Can you find a 200-220 shot for the 2nd?

2nd shot does play slightly up hill not sure how much more so if you're down the left side of the fairway and with the angle it becomes a bit longer than you want. Having think about it though I'm just not getting enough out of my 2nd shot when I do layup.

Going to make a conscious effort to get the ball up the right side instead of trying to just get it in play. Then getting more out of my 2nd shot. I appreciated the input from you guys!

Edit: Missed your message Jack.

Thinking about it I hit a 4 iron about 200ish with a good strike and probs like 180 with a semi decent one. I thought my rescue might go a little further but thinking about it now I don't think it does. 1 thing I do need to work on is hitting my 3 wood I remember when I hit it well the game became a bit easier.

Hard to say much off that picture. What's past the orange? If your window with driver is that tight I'd default to 185 + 225 and score with a 100yd flighted sand wedge. Otherwise 285 + 225 get her home.

48-45-93. No birdies, a flock of doubles.

First time touching a club since mid-July. Was nice to get back out there. Ball striking was surprisingly decent, short game was pretty woeful.
