He's just not been able to get off work etc but that doesn't excuse the fact he can't put them in whilst do the match play league. Not ideal to do it whilst playing a match play but at least it's something as he is clearly a lot better than he handicap suggests. This is the 1st year we are doing this so I kind of blame the person who made the rules and not him. Next year this won't happen.

But hey I just found out he lost today so there is a chance.

Struggle was at around my 10th hole of the day. Had a 3-putt par, albeit from around 100+ feet away. Next hole I was a bit long on the back fringe. First putt came up about 5 feet short, and then missed that one (my only real miss of the day). Next hole I drive into a fairway bunker and made the front fringe for my second. This time I have about 120 feet. Leave the first one about 30 feet short. Then blast next one 8 feet by, make that one for bogey. Next hole was my only bad drive of the day. Next goes in greenside bunker. Thinking it was firm like the fairway i left it in the bunker, next one barely gets out. Have to chip for bogey and send it 10 feet by, Make that one to save the only double of the day. Settled down after that.

Bogey the 1st then make 5 birdies in my next 13 holes. Standing on 15 tee at -4 I hit a tree off the tee (it's tight from the white tees, blues I can just go over them). Drop and hit 3rd to 150y out. Get on and 2-putt double.

I have no idea. I can’t see a problem with 2 players agreeing on something though as it’s match play.

Round my local track another -1 2 weeks in a row come 2nd again lost out by 1 point this time.

Ball striking was actually a bit meh I just hit a lot of good bad ones. I even shanked a simple wedge shot but hit a incredible pitch for my next to 2 feet to get away with a par. I probably had my best day ever on the greens today, Everything was in or very close to going in.

Our North Course opened up yesterday. Fantastic shape. Somehow they managed to get the greens to hold and not bounce along like a parking lot. No clue how they pulled that off. Major differences.

Leveled all of the tee boxes and made them about twice as wide as before. Also all of the tee boxes connect to one another. Before they were on separate mounds. The even added a little tongue of a tee box on our signature hole that now stretches it out to over 550 yards. About a 150 y carry over water off the tee and a peninsula green.

Fixed all cart paths.

Added runoff areas around a few of the par 3's.

Also decided to change the name of the club from East Lake Woodlands to Ardea. I heard it's Greek for heron or something.


The opening event was a fun scramble. They had it open to committee members and some of the members who have been there the longest. They didn't get enough so they opened it up to a few more and I was able to get on. Only problem is they forgot to add me to the tee sheet. I was not happy to say the least. Found the golf director and he said just join a group as a 5th. I joined a group from my regular Saturday game. Our club champion (+2.7 cap), B player is a 2, I'm a 4, and other two are around an 8-10. We played our usual tees and shot -18. 16 birdies, 1 eagle, 1 par. Made par on the first hole of the day, a 178y par 3 over water. All of us missed the green. After that we literally one-putted every singe hole. This is the best group of putters I have ever seen in a scramble. Longest birdie putt we made was around 25 feet or so. Most were in the kick-in to 12 foot range.

Hit it good but had to bet a bit aggressive on the last as partner was in his pocket and the other got shots on me and dropped one in the water on 18. Overall meh ball striking day. Back at it Thursday before club championship starting Saturday.

Wasn't hitting the ball that great but was getting it round on the from 9 was +4 through 6 holes making a double on the 6th didn't help but finished strong on the front 9 with Birdie/Par/Birdie finishing the front in +2.

Then I forgot how to hit a ball. 10 and 11 basically hit the ball into the ground with my driver wasting a few shots. Greens were pretty swift but meh condition. Defo left a lot of shots out there.


We Played a 2v2 match vs a 35hc and a 14hc. I was playing off 9 and my teammate was off 13. We lost pretty hard 8 & 7 I think it was. The 35hc played solid he ended up shooting 94 which is like a 19 diff around this track so really good for him.

Haven't been updating because, well, I haven't been playing. Work this summer was awful, and except for a scramble in early September and Team Play in August, I haven't played at all since July. Saturday I was lying in bed watching football when I got a call from the pro shop that they needed a player for the yearly "Ryder Cup" style event we have with a neighboring club. I didn't qualify, and haven't played, but it's a fun event so I told him I'd play but not to expect much.

Apparently I need to take breaks more. I shot 78 at the away course on Saturday, then 79 at my course on Sunday. I think those are only the second and third times I've shot in the 70s this year.

Last day of good weather for a bit .. skipped work and played fan favorite course on Fall rates!! Had the course to myself and shot a great round .. back 9 greens were still a little sandy from aeration but not terrible.

3 bogies, 1 double, 1 triple .. but still shot 41-37 for 78 .. must've been something in the air cuz I don't play enough to deserve a score like that!! GL

9 hole match tonight won 3&1 vs a guy playing off 10 I gave him 1 shot.


1st hole Both hit drives in the same position. He chunks his wedge shot in I hit mine to about 10 feet and hole the putt for a birdie 1up.

2nd He topped off the tee hit a semi decent 2nd shot to the front of the green. I Just hit an iron down the middle and hit a wedge to about 18 feet, Just miss the putt and he gets up and down to tie the hole.

3rd hole Par 5 into the wind. I hate this tee shot normally in a medal off the tips I'll just hit an iron. I buttoned this one went so far into the wind and just went into the semi. He hits a 3-wood short of these hedges and hits another 3 wood which left him about 160 in. I hit a terrible rescue had 115 into a back flag. I saw his shot and it just got to the front edge. I should have clubbed up as I hit an identical shot. He ends up 3 putting and I 2 putt for a par. I go 2 up

4th long par 3 into the wind again pin at the back I think it was like 170ish. I hit 5 iron but hit off the toe and put it into this bunker. He hits short right. I hit a good bunker shot was about 30 yards and put it to about 5-6feet. He hits his chip long but just still on the green. He misses the putt I miss mine halved still 2 up.

5th short par 3 I toe my wedge shot short. He hits it pin high right in the fringe. Hit a good pitch but just slightly long in the fringe. He hits a poor chip from where he was and has about 15 feet left. I put my putt to gimme range, and he misses halved. still 2 up

6th long Par 4 he gets a shot. Hit my drive out the neck but downwind it still went some. He hits a decent drive up the left in the semi. He has about 205 left in and hits a good shot to about 8 feet. I had 185 in hit a 6 iron to pin high left to about 25 feet. Miss the putt get a par and he does the same. Back to 1 up.

7th short par 3. We both hit the same shots to about 20 feet literally a foot apart. The good thing was I get to go 1st and holed my putt for a 2 and he missed. Back to 2 up.

8th short par 4 today is play for position instead of going for it given the wind. I hit a decent 6 iron to a good angle to the flag. He miss hits his tee shot but still has like 150 in so wasn't too bad. He hits it to the back right of the flag. I have like 90 into a tight front left flag over a bunker and put it to 5 feet. He 2 putts which was a really good par in the end. I holed my putt and win 3&1.

We played the 9th and I got another birdie finishing -2 for the 9 holes. 4 birdies and 2 bogeys.


Puts me back to top by 1 point. The guy in 2nd is playing 3rd tomorrow. It will be off scratch so I'm hoping he can do a job against him I still have to play him, and I'll be his final match. I still have 1 more match after him. It's going to be a close one.

Played the tips in prep for the club championship this weekend. Unfortunately I think doubles are inevitable playing that far back. I just need to make a few birdies to offset them. Goal is to be in the 70s at the end of round 1. See what happens!

Played a charity scramble yesterday with the maximum amount of scoring shenanigans (mulligans, string, pay for ace holes, etc). We paid about $500 as a team for some of the benefits but declined to pay $2000 for a 0 on the par 5 16th (made eagle). So we ended up with a respectable 24-24 which was 5 strokes off the winning score of 43.

Next time I'm not buying **** and just enjoying my drink tickets.

-1 on the back 9. Highlight was getting a Birdie on the 17th, From the tips I haven't birdied it all year. It only plays 350 but the tee shot is super tight. Mad at myself for Bogeying 2 short Par 3's one was a 3 putt. The other one was not getting close enough with the chip shot. Hit a decent tee shot but just went over the green in the fringe.



Regarding the 9 hole league. The guy in 2nd played yesterday and tied the match. So right now he is level with me and I'm his last game. I still have another game after that though but it is vs someone who is pretty good on his day. So all to play for.

Ugh, heartbreak!

Started out bogey, bogey, then the nerves wore off. 2 birdies on the front including a 10 footer on 9 for 37. If I didn't 3-putt the 7th for bogey.

Back nine I honestly didn't play all that terrible. 10th is a 202y par 3 over water. I hit the hybrid a touch heavy and put it in the water. No drop zone in play in the championship so I have to drop in rough and play from 175 or re-hit. Missed the green but go up and down from an impossible spot to save double. 13th is a par 5, easy. Tee shot in a bunker and there is a drag mark lip right behind my ball. Basically barely advance it. Then lay up in bunker, then hit it in greenside bunker. Make double.

14th I make about a 50 footer for birdie. 15th I hit in trees and have to drop. Miss green and make double. 16 par 3 playing 203. I pull the **** out of a 4 iron and it manages to clear the water. I laser it and I am 62 yards right and long of the green, just lol. Don't hit it on but manage bogey.

17th hole I hit it decent but pull it a bit. Ball is in the rough and I make good contact but goes over the green. Drive up 20 yards and there is a ball in the fairway. I hit the wrong ball. The one I hit wasn't one from our group, someone just left it there. Same ball as mine. ****. Hit correct ball, hit green and 3-jack it for a triple.

I honestly hit the ball pretty good on the day buy just put it in a few bad spots. The 2 shot penalty hurt. It just had to be the same ball I was playing. Oh well. Round 2 tomorrow.

Brutal how the little things can compound in tournament rounds. Thanks for sharing and give 'em hell tomorrow

Easiest 83 in history. Actually had a cold front roll through overnight and I had a hoodie on for the first six holes. Story of the day was miss a green, don't get it close enough and 2-putt bogey. No penalties, never in trouble. Wind was up which contributed to the poor iron play.

A new member won the title. Not sure how long he was been a member but someone said a few weeks. What is everyone's thought on someone joining right before club championship and then winning?

Don't really see a problem with it tbh.

Me personally if I was a + player then I wouldn't have played but that's just me. I didn't have an issue with it, but I know others were complaining.

What is a golf tournament even if nobody complains

Yeah I would of the done the same and sat it out for a year.
