I'll join that party in a sec....

Level Par round.

6 Birdies 4 Bogeys 1 Double.

Birdied the 2nd the gave it back on on the 3rd, All pars up till the 7th. Then Birdied 7 and 8, Par on the 9th for -2.

11th Bogey and the 13th putting me back to level.

14th Almost hole in one. Tap in Birdie. 15th Par 5 Birdie getting me back to -2.

Now comes the frustrating part.

16th small par 3 wedge it on to about 15 feet nice up hill putt. Race it past like 4 feet miss it coming back. -1.

17th, Perfect tee shot its just a lay up with a 8 iron. I have a flick with a wedge. Shank it right into some thick stuff. I had to get pretty steep on it and it just come out dead. Hit a good chip on nearly going in but I have about 10 feet for a bogey. Thought I hit a good putt lipped round the hole tap in for a double +1

18th Hit 7 iron just short of some bunkers about 180 down the fairway. Have like 90 or so in. Flick a wedge in and have about 12 feet for Birdie. Managed to hole the putt for finish level.

Bogeys were all silly errors, Going long on 3 with a wedge in my hand. 3 putting the 11th from 15 feet. 3 putting on the 13th this was about 40 feet away and was a tough putt. 16th 3 putt from 15 feet (fuming with this one). 17th the shank cost me massive not sure where it come from can't remember the last time I shanked one wedges are the most confident part of my game.

I love though that I can feel like I make a lot of birdies though makes me feel like if I'm having a bad day I can turn it around.

43 on the front, +3 through 3 on the back when we quit due to rain. No birdies, 3 doubles.

Have developed a lovely new swing flaw, not sure what's causing it, but twice I hit 8 irons that I thought I hit fine but they went about 80 yards. I don't hit anything very far any more, stock 8 iron distance is only about 115 this year (after being 130 for a long time), but this is ridiculous.

a shank fest should be treated no different than a no hitter
unless there is an obvious tip to give the suspect to make it two times worse,
don't say a single thing

Funny thing with my shank is as I'm playing into the 17th green, I see the group on 18 I know them quite well but they were with some young guy but they all turn around to watch my approach shot. As I found out later the young guy wanted to watch me hit a shot into the green as the other 2 playing with him said he has a decent short game. Great time to pipe it . Should start a shank counter!

Today was a massive confidence builder. For about 2 weeks I've been slinging the ball from right to left although still happens I feel like I have it a bit under control. Then also I've been using my lob wedge a lot now mainly from anything inside 60 yards when it makes sense to. I learnt to play these low spinning pitch/chip shots and its allowing me to be a little more aggressive.

I've got a busy week of golf this week. 2 matches in the 9 hole league. 1st one is on Tuesday vs a 20handicapper who hits it a mile I'll be giving him 4 shots. Match play is the perfect format for him as he can never put a full round together hence why he trending at the top of the table. 2nd match is vs a 22HC and will be giving him 5 shots. Both tough matches given how many shots I'll be giving, Honestly 2 points from 4 would be a good result (2 points for a win, 1 for a draw), If I can get 3 or 4 points though that will go a long way in this league.

Then on Saturday we have the Anniversary cup which I believe is the 20th year, Pretty sure its a medal. Super long day as all the older crew come out to play and even the older women play. Should be fun though love playing with new people and getting to know them.

44-42-86 yesterday. 2 doubles, 6 pars, rest were bogeys

2nd lowest round of the year. I don't even think I played great......

BUT what I did do was make every putt under 10 feet. Ok, I may have missed one but what a difference that makes.

Match for the 9 hole league.

Gave the other guy 4 shots his index is around 20 and plays off 17 round this track. He can hit it pretty long and he get all his shots on long holes

It's raining but with no wind as we tee off.

1st hole I said I'll give you the choice if you want to tee off first. He takes it. It's a straight hole, about 300. Puts it over the green but just off to the right. Was like great he also gets a shot. I hit a scabby drive but its fine. 2nd shot I hit a great lob wedge from about 85 and hit it about 82 have about 9 feet for birdie. He chips on to about 12 feet and missed the putt but gimme Par. I hit a good birdie putt for a halve but just missed. 1 down.

2nd hole no shots, Par 4 about 270. Big bunker in the middle about 40 short and is about 50 yards wide its just a big no no to go into it. OB right and bushes left. Pin is on a top right tier probably the hardest position. He hits a 3 wood over the green. I hit a decent drive but took a funky bounce which killed it and was about 20 short of the green. Really good lob wedge chip to about 8 feet. He chips on to about 6 feet. I just missed the putt again and so did he. Halved the hole. 1 down.

3rd hole 500 odd par 5 shot hole. He smacks his drive way left in some crap. Seeing this I should of took a iron out and just put it down the middle I didn't but I hit a cracking drive down left side and just went into the semi. We find his ball quickly and he just wedged it out of the stuff. I put a hybrid down the middle of the fairway leaving me about 95 into a back tight pin. He has about 200 in and hits it right only about 170 ish. I then hit a great 54 in to about 10 feet. He hits a good wedge to about 8 feet. I hit a great putt getting my birdie he has a putt to halve but misses. All square.

4th hole shot hole. Was playing 190. I hit a poor shot pin high left. Hit hits the same but right he is short sided though. I have no vision of the flag but hit a good shot to about 7 feet. He hits a really good shot but was so unlucky hit the edge of the fringe that shot it off to about 20 feet. He missed the putt but was a gimme. I hit a good putt again but just missed. 1 down.

5th no shots, 120 yard par 3. He hits a decent shot just past the pin about 15 feet. I yank my left and pin high but about 50 feet. Right now the rain is getting heavy. I get up have a little look at it and just hit it. From about 10 feet out I thought it was in. Comes up a inch short. He raced his by and has about 5 feet left for par. He holes it was pretty clutch putt from him. 1 Down.

6th Last shot hole. 420 par 4. He steps up and whacks it into the bush only about 170 away. I hit a great drive. He hits a provisional but way right in some thick rough not even worth looking for. Couldn't find his 1st and gave me the hole. All square.

7th, We halved just a standard hole.

Same with 8th.

9th, Both in decent positions off the tee I'm in a better one given my angle to the flag I just drove a wedge into the middle of the green not the best shot but asked the question I have about 30 feet. He has a wedge about 100 yards has to get it to stop quick so has to hit it pretty high. He ends up hitting it massive like 20 yards longer than expected hits the downslope off the back and shoots off into some bushes nearly OB. I find it and he had a go at it but ends up picking it up and giving me the match.

He played really well taking out a couple of holes. Sort of felt like a halved match was fair. However this was a good person to beat. He is near the top of the leader board. I am back at the top level with 2nd but he has play 2 more matches than me. Couple of other guys who are a few matches behind me that can catch me but can't get passed me.

My record is with 16 matches played. Think I have about 9 more to play.
Won 11
Drew 2
Lost 1

Ball striking continues to be awful. Frustrating, I usually play this course well.

what a difference it makes to the score when putts drop from inside three strides.
the exact reason some people preach to start your improvement journey close to the hole and radiate outward from there.
having never seen your swing in person, how could i ever tell you which rung of the ladder to successfully place the weight of your heel upon?

100% what red said. You can always improve on the short game no matter how good you are the game becomes that much easier (not easy by all means) when you are semi decent, in the sense that it has a knock on effect.

If you are confident at the short putts, You won't mind going for a putt and running it by 4-5 feet obv not ideal but you're not going to be like I'm going to miss this next one. Then if you're confident with putting you don't mind leaving yourself a 30 footer. This free's up your approach shots on top of that if you're fine with pitching and chipping you don't mind missing the green in funky places and it goes on.

Like he said golf should be taught from the hole outwards. I think Mike Malaska teaches this way. I think I watched one of his videos years ago and he said if you can't hit a putter out the middle then you'll struggle to hit a driver out the middle.

Almost played 54 on Monday, but only got to 49:

Independence Day Chapman: lol 86. I'm not saying I was playing my best, but my partner had a really, really tough day. He generally hits it very long and straight, but I'm not sure he hit a fairway. His second shots weren't much better. I think there might have only been two holes where we had an option between two birdie putts.

A couple of LOL holes:
-Triple Bogey on a par 3. I went first and pulled one (a rarity) into the water. He hit one way off target and it was completely stymied behind a tree. Then I ****ed up when my "safe shot" didn't turn out so safe.

- Triple Bogey when greenside in two on a par 5. Partner bombs his drive and I'm about 190 in. Hit a good one, but off by a couple yards and went into greenside bunker. His second shot was about 40 yards out. I leave it up to him since it's his bunker shot. It's a pretty straightforward one, and he takes the bunker shot. You guess it....into the lip, and straight down below it. I can't get it out. Then he can't get it out. I do, but not close to the hole.

We focused on drinks after that one.

Second round: 40 - 41 = 81. Apropos of the comments above, I need to refocus on my short game. I'm missing the 5-6 footers that are usually in my wheel house.

Third round (13 holes): +6 when I quit. Buddy I was playing with needed to go, and by that point I was feeling it in my back.

All-in-all a nice Monday.

I went 2 up thru 2, Lost the 3rd and the 4th. Halved the 5. Lost the 6th, Won 7, 8 and 9 for 2&1 win.

Really good to get 2 wins out of 2 this week vs 2 tough people.

Anniversary cup today.

A lot of people came out to play started off with rain for about a hour turned out to be a pretty nice day in the end.

Was a medal comp.

33-35-68 (-1) Nett 59

Played solid today. Even the miss hits where going good.

Hit 16 out of 18 greens in reg. No 3 putts and I have a few testers from 5-6 feet.

3 Birdies 2 Bogeys.

1 Birdie was on a 190ish par 3. (If I would of done it the night before I would of got the rolling 2's which hasn't been won all season pot is about £200)
Other Birdie on the front was on a small Par 3 knocked it to about 5 feet.
Last Birdie was on a easy Par 4. Hit a drive about 20 short. Chipped a lob wedge and had a tap in birdie.

I had a bogey on 6, Terrible drive right in some knee high rough. Found it straight away and was fortunate as it was against a staked tree which was on the edge of the thick stuff meaning I could take my drop out in the semi rough. Gave myself a chance at a par but missed it.

So after getting it back to -2, I step onto 17. Its a horrible tight tee shot hole is about 370. I hit it dead centre and I'm like fist pumping inside. Get down there have about 130 into a wind. Pull out a 9 iron and this is like my bread and butter but oh no I yank it left of the green about pin high. Horrible pitch back flew off the club face and still miss the green. Left with a chip from about 10yards and hit a really good one for a tap in bogey.

18th Good iron off the tee. Good wedge leaving myself about 15 feet for birdie. Hit a solid putt and hangs on the edge of the hole and didn't drop for a -2 round

I come 2nd overall losing out by 1 shot. His score was +8 and was our club captain. He seems to turn up for these big events with having won 2 out of 2 this year and I've come 2nd in both Fair play to him though he has been having a tough time with golf of late. Yesterday he actually walked off the course after 3 and 1/2 holes. Another person who is off 8 also shot -1 as well.

Played a 2v2 scramble today.

Sort of unfair teams.

I had a 21hc and me with being off 9 vs 2 17hc's

We smashed it, Got to -5. Everyone had to have 9 tee shots. Think the other team finished like +3.

On the 5th 120 yard par 3. Bladed a pitching wedge absolutely nailed the flag and gave us about 8 feet

36-38 74 today. One off my best round ever.

2 birdies, 4 bogies and 12 pars. No 6s and no doubles which is obviously a huge key to scoring well for high single digit handicaps.

Very solid off the tee (10/14 fairways no penalties) and approach was solid. Then chipped my face off as I hit 9 greens but got 6 of the 9 misses up and in. Only one 3 putt was also money.

Highlight 1 of the day was hitting my worst shot of the day a layup on the par 5 15th into a tree but was able to take an unplayable and get down in 2 from 170

Highlight 2 was back to back birdies on 6 and 7. 6 was a a medium par 4 with the flag left out by the mower (we were first group out) so I played middle yardage and unknowingly flagged an 8i and made a 10 footer. Then made a handsome birdie on 7 a medium par 5 with 3 solid shots that left me 3 feet.

Never really threatened shooting/breaking par today especially as I missed from 6 feet for bird on 13 then mostly scraped pars from there. But in all of my sub 78 rounds this one I felt the most calm and in control. Hope to build off of this.

^^^^^very nice

46-48-94 for me today. funny because last week i shot 86 w/ zero birdies. Today was 8 shots higher with 2 birdies. and as Scott would say one was of the 2-putt variety. 490 yard par 5. I hit drive about 240. Then hit a 3 wood as well as I possibly can. It moved about 3 feet right in the air and landed about 15 feet from the pin. Maybe 240 carry? Rolled to back of the green and I 2-putt from about 40 feet. yay me.

too many doubles and a couple triples.

excellent KJ!

second round of the summer started this morning at 6:09.
since i haven't even been swinging a club i went to the range yesterday morning to see what i might be working with. hit the ball ok and of course i was quite stiff this morning when i woke up (talking about back muscles here boys).
get to the course around 5:30 with plenty of time to limber up the swing before the round, but the lights are out and the door's locked. a couple of employees are on their phones trying to find someone and the starter says the dude with the key should be here any minute now.
fifteen later he comes speeding up and finally starts processing golfers with no time to get out the range balls. playing partner finds half a bag to split when he gets his cart so i take eight swings with seven clubs.

that's a long-winded excuse for +21
on the front nine my driver dispersion was two fairways wide right, initially demonstrated on the first tee by an immediate donation of two new vice balls to the driving range breakfast fund,
only missed one on the back.
chunked a few wedges, wiped some irons, hit a couple of solid 3w/hybrids but they were recovery shots from poor drives, nothing to score with.
no three putts, too many penalties.
