Came less than an inch away from a hole in one. Hit it 5 feet past the hole and sucked it back.

Signed up for a US Am Tour event next week on a course that I like. Will be my first tourney in 11 months. Championship flight so GL me.

43-49-92. 1 birdie, many doubles, 1 triple.

Game is just a disaster right now. So inconsistent.

Not sure what I shot over the weekend I only know the stableford points.

Friday 9 Hole roll up ... 20 points won the nearest to the pin though by sticking it to a foot.

Saturday 18 Holes ... 34 points

Sunday best 2 scores of your 3 ball count. Got 42 points on my own. When I was paired with the other 2 I was like this might not go so well, But we actually all played really well. Other guy got 42 points and the last guy got 38 points. Think we won by 6 points.

Played all of this with inflamed gums that was just annoying as **** thankfully I found some tablets in the bag to help with the pain. Gums seem to have gone down today so booked 18 later this afternoon.


Randomly found a new shot as a sort of fairway finder. Just gripping down and teeing the driver down. I did this just because of the wind to keep it out of it but even as a normal shot I don't lose much distance if any at all.

I REALLY need to work on mental mistakes. My swing is great, putting is good. I just make bad mistakes that getting me into trouble and bogeys and double bogeys. My course is almost always windy (you take the good and the bad living on the coast), and the direction changes often (deeper we get into summer it will get more consistent).

One definite analytic I’ve noticed is birdies come way more often. I’m getting 2-3 a round, which keeps me in the low 80s for “bad rounds.”

Also need to master the backside of my course. Without looking through this thread, I feel like I’m consistently in the 30s on front, and 40s on back.

My handicap has bounced around so much the last couple of months. I’ve had both my lowest HI and highest HI in the last couple years in that time period. I don’t think I’ve played more than two consecutive rounds with the same number of strokes.

Played 5 tournament rounds over the last two weekends. 2-round event at my home course and then a 3-round event away this past weekend.

As a 6-index those were pretty rough. I can't hit a fairway to save my life (18/67 27% for the 5 rounds) and I had the putting yips where I push or pull putts very badly and over this past weekend; missed 4 putts between 2 and 3 feet and 3-putted so many times (4 3-putts per round average)

Kept strokes gained stats for all of my rounds and it's pretty jarring. Against scratch from the Mark Broadie GolfMetrics app:

Driving -5.3/round (22 hcp)
Approach (100+y) -2.5/round (5 hcp)
Short (0-100y) -0.5/round (2 hcp)
Putting -4.4/round (18 hcp)

Overall pretty discouraged as I really don't feel my index is vanity - but I play easier/shorter setups for my normal rounds and then longer courses combined with the tournament "pressure" (all self created as these are just small local events) makes me lose my mind.

TL/DR: I don't hit it far or straight and I can't putt but I can hit it pretty solidly when I'm in play and the wedges are the duct-tape of my game.

Holy ****! Tough course.

**** me - fixed it. It's 10.0 I read the line below which was 8.8 on an 84 (practice round the day before).

It's 73.2/133; my home course from the back tees (7,200+y). The tees I play are 6,700 so it's a huge difference for someone like me that hits driver 250-260

Played the tips in prep for tourney this weekend. Off the tee was good, approaches were suspect, putting was pretty bad.

1 Birdie 13 Pars 4 Bogeys

Really getting used to playing in the wind and playing a lot of knock down shots.


Played with a playing partner who is like a 28HC and he played super well. He shot +13 but a +4 back 9 was really really good from him.

41 (par 36). 1 eagle, 2 double bogeys.

What a mental case. Eagle was on a par 4 -- hit a driver on a 350 yard par 4 a smooth 165. Didn't even make the fairway. Holed it with a 3 hybrid from the rough.

Also accomplished the rare feat of hitting a par 3 green in regulation, taking two putts and walking away with a bogey.

Missed a 3 foot birdie putt on the first hole.

Not sure if I need a lesson, a psychologist or both.

Afternoon 9 yesterday. Local 9 hole course. Very windy 82 degrees.

Good driver on 1 held right edge of fairway.

5 wood out of grassy lie in rough from 186. Landed center green but was lacking height and spin. Off the back. Missed par by an inch.

Iron missed right on par 3 a foot into rough. Sunk birdie with putter.

Good driver on 5 into stiff wind. Intentional draw center fairway.

Smashed driver on 9 from back of tee box but couldn't find it. The hole slopes down to the right around 230 out. This makes it difficult to see if fairway is clear. I might have hit into the group ahead as they were quite slow, and they might have taken the ball.

I walked off instead of waiting for them to take 10 mins to putt as had happened on the other 8 holes.

No score. I'm just happy to get a birdie.

Tied the 9 hole low. Hit the first 11 GIR. Bogeyed 12 and 13. Irons fell off late but made a bunch of pars coming in.

Walked 18. 6 pars. 7 bogeys. Rest was bad. A few decent looks at birdie (10 ft, 18 ft, 12 ft) but no luck.

And since life hates me I somehow strained my finger. Not sure if it was during golf or not. It's on the palm side at the base of my index finger. Not pain but just a bit uncomfortable. Hopefully it hangs on for tourney tomorrow. Also looked at forecast and it's off and on rain turning to t-storms, but electricity should hold off til I am done.

+3 in the 9 hole roll up 20 points got me 3rd

Wind was up so was playing pretty tough. Sort of messed up 2 holes 5 on a par 3 and 5 on the par 4 8th in which I hit a perfect drive only to duck hook a 7 iron right in the face of the tree but went back into the fairway.

Made a weird Par on 2, Duck hook drive had a 8 iron into a elevated green missed right long. Had a awkward pitch back on probably hit a 5/10 shot and had like 12 feet for par and managed to hole the putt.... Only need to hit 1 good shot and all that

In comp pretty windy, played ok didn't really strike irons well today,

1 silly 3 putt from 25 feet and one Silly tee shot on a 100yard par 3, For some reason I decided to hit the wedge pretty hard and as soon as I hit it I knew it was going long and OB.

I could of probably saved at least 7 shots today pretty easily.

ah well we live and we learn.

US Am tour event. Good for 4/8 in champ flight. Won 1 skin so got my money back there. The giant skin likely doesn't hold as it's on a par 5.

3 3-putts on the front kinda did me in. My irons were not strong either causing me to have long putts in fast, sloping, and grainy greens.

For my first tourney in 11 months I will take it.

46-43-89. No birdies, 3 double bogeys, 1 triple. 71.0/134/6504 yards.

Playing with a group so I didn't pick the tees but I had no business playing that far back with how awful my ball striking is right now. This course has a number of forced carries off the tee, a couple of which I couldn't cover. At least one I had no hope of covering, I just grabbed an old ball, hit it into the ravine and took my drop.

Once again finished strong with three pars in a row, just don't ask me to hit a driver.

8 pars, 1 birdie, 7 bogeys, 2 doubles

Best ball-striking round of the year for me. Had 2 really bad doubles (one I skulled a chip across the green and another awful 3-putt). Should have broken 80 but it's an improvement over how I've been playing. I always feel more optimistic when I am at least striking my irons well.

38 - 41 = 79

+4 on the last three holes. My driver was ****, worst it’s been in a while, so not unhappy with the score.

73 +4 in a team thing I think as I wasn't actually scoring myself.

3/4 Birdies I can recall. A lot of lip outs as well played really good and so did the rest of my team as we won by a fair margin.
