Practice Makes Permanent,


Would like to ask though what specifically makes you not able to compete mentally?

The difference between practice and on course play I seem to describe it like this:

I am swinging circles on the range and lines on the course. On the range I am looking for good rotation, especially with my driver from my swing. When i get on the course I think everything speeds up and im swinging in a straight line.

overly simplistic answer: practice more competition or compete more while practicing

I was talking to someone today about tournaments and I was a much better player back in 2018 when I was playing a lot of the GC Am Tour events even though my handicap is 4 shots lower now.

Tourney reps are a thing for sure.

37-41-78. 3 birdies, 1 double bogey. 69.6/129/6050 yards

Poor start (bogey-bogey-double) followed by 3 birdies in a row. Three pars and a standard back nine. Ball striking not great. Nice greens though, good for a decent short game.

Round 1 of club championship. Considering I was +6 thru 4, not completely terrible. I just could not get off the tee well today. Irons and putting were above average, with the exception of back-to-back 3-putts on 16 and 17.

it all came together today. 41-39-80. I've broken 80 once but that was 12 years ago. Oh it feels good.

Blah two day event started yesterday with best ball and we shot 75 gross 71 net and were 11 back gross :-/

Only two birdies and 5 bogies is rough. My partner is a +2 (+4 course hc) so he was hitting two net off all 4 par 3s as they are rated 15-18 so I had to play hard those holes and made 3 pars and a bogie which was nice. I did double 3 of my 7 stroke holes so that wasn’t great.

Scramble today - were 16th/18 teams and we’d like to move up to the top 10. This is my home course and my partner doesn’t know it as well so I’m hoping he’ll putt better today and we have a shot at a great round.

Well went to a course that a played a month or so ago and was 10 shots worse. Shot a 95.

Played terrible tbh I don't think I hit 1 good shot on the first 4 holes. Like I was struggling to get it airborne

After the 5th my driving was decent. Putting was solid all day tbf had one 3 putt but this was on a super slopey green and I finished above the hole on my approach, Hardly touch the putt and went 8 feet by.

I swear every time I go to the range before a round I play significantly worse it's a strange one. Like a lot of times I'll tee off on the 1st and that will be my best drive all day without warming up. Strange thing is before I play a round and go to the range I'm not really thinking of any swing thoughts as in trying to fix or alter stuff, I'm simply going to the range to warm up and today I was crushing it at the range which makes even more strange.

Day 2 of club championship. I played MUCH better today. Pulled 1 driver all day, 3rd hole and I dumped it into the water, didn't cross land so basically a stroke and distance penalty leading to a double. Rattled off pars on 9-16, made bogey on the last 2 holes. Course has only been open for a week do to greens renovation and I absolutely putted lights out. Didn't miss a putt under 10 feet. With the greens being lightning fast I had a lot of 3-5 footers coming back for par.

I don't think many people broke 80. Will have to check the scores when I go back.

37 (par 36). 1 birdie, no double bogeys.

Of all the days on the course the great ball striking days are the most fun.

Sunday was much better; and as always you feel after a scramble it could have been even lower. We started on the par 5 5th and made birdie. Made an awful bogie on 6 and parred 7 (a par 5) to be sitting even par when we expected to be 2 or 3 under. We birdied 9 of the remaining 15 holes to shoot 63 which was nice and it should have been better; we didn't make anything longer than 12 feet all day and missed a few inside 10 feet. We felt like 61 or 60 was very possible for us with how well we hit it.

9th place gross out of 18 teams. We were 5th for just Sunday scores and 16th for just Saturday scores. Fun weekend though!


It was really fun hitting approach shots from where my partner would drive the ball; he hits 4 tee shots more than 310 and didn't hit one out of play or in a truly awful spot all day. Hit bad drives still go 15-25 past mine; as my driver goes 250-270 we didn't use my tee balls at all (2 par 3s being the exceptions). And on the few holes where you have to layup or hit less than driver he just always pures them and gets them to awesome spots; its amazing how much easier the game feels (scramble not withstanding) to just be in the fairways or just off them and a lot closer to the green. It let my wedge game shine and it's fun to hit a lot close.

Wow cracking round of golf where everything just came together.

36 - 33 - 69 (Par 69)

1 Eagle - 3 Birdies - 10 Pars - 3 Bogeys - 1 double

13 out of 18 greens hit, With 30 putts.

This is round my local course which is pretty easy but this is by far the best I have played since coming back to golf. My app where I record all my scores say's I'm a 13.8 and round my local course I'm a 7 just to give you some idea of how easy it is.

After yesterday's play where I played pretty terrible I decided to focus on some fundamentals and it kept things easy and simple.

10th Hole was the Eagle, Hit a drive had about 135 to the middle of the green was playing into the wind and the pin was about 8 yards over a bunker. Decided to hit a smooth 8 iron and took 1 bounce hit the pin and dropped.

Also I was a foot away from a hole in one on a 110 yard par 3.

I was -1 going into 17. Pin was on the front tucked in by a bunker about 5 yards to play with before it. Tee shot for me is just a 7 iron and then a 8 Iron. Decided just to play long and right of the pin just to keep it safe, But left it to much out there and then missed the green right. Had a 60 degree over a mound which I hit a semi decent shot on but was about a yard short of where I wanted to land it and it caught the down slope and rolled out to about 15 feet which I ended up 2 putting for bogey.

18th hit nice tee shot only had a flick of a 60 degree wedge in but it was a tough shot as the pin was like 5 yards behind a bunker. I actually think this was one of my better shots of the day and pitched it pin high and roll out to 8 feet, Ended up 2 putting for level par for the day.

Really happy with 2 over front and -2 under back.

I had the 4th best score of the 18 competing. I will take that.

That's nice; always good to compare to field rather than just par/handicap with tournament conditions and such.

40-42 = 82

Started off with four straight bogeys. Greens were punched and sanded a week ago and they were SLOW. Took me we while to get anything to the hole. Hit the ball well and was +2 on the front (started on 14) before bogeying 8 and 9 (two easy holes). I can live with it having not played for three weeks.

One guy I was playing with literally did not get a single putt to the hole (until his tap ins, obviously). Last couple holes we were all, JUST HIT IT BY TO SHOW YOU CAN DO IT.

Started off with a chip in after I bladed my iron over the back. Then just played bogey golf all through the front 9.

Back 9 was a lot more consistent in terms of score.

My iron play through the whole round was terrible, I didn't hit a well struck iron till the 15th. Putting was alright but weak, Had a few birdie chances but left mostly everything short.

bit of a meh round only thing that was good was my driving. The worst I had was 10 yards off the fairway.

I'll take it, Last time I played this course I shot 87 so a little better. Both times irons sucked.

I played 9 holes today and holy hell something clicked. I shot level par through 9, 2 birdies and 2 bogeys, They punched the greens and put sand on it today though so putting was a bit meh on it. Was a foot away from a hole in one also (Hopefully one day 1 will drop).

I strengthened my right hand grip and felt like the ball was on the end of the string. I was actually hitting my 3 wood off the deck which is by far my worse club in the bag.

Tired golf today due to lack of sleep. 7 over front 3 over back. No birdies, Mostly just Par's and Bogeys. Had a double on the last. Quite disappointed when 2 of a 4 ball doesn't show and doesn't tell anyone.

40-45-85. 1 birdie, 3 double bogeys.

Awful. Lost it completely on the back. Driver mostly ok, hybrids way off, irons ok, chipping miserable, putting meh.
