5 birdies, 2 doubles

2 2-putt birdies today. Drove a par 4. One of the doubles was from 10 yards short of the green. Took my putter not realizing how far off I was and too lazy to go back. Was on fairway cut but had to go through rough. Not good.

36-38-74 par 72

11 pars to start, then birdie, par, bogey, bogey, bogey, par, par to finish. Was feeling really good about things through 13. Then proceeded to blade an 8 iron over the green on a par 3, chunk a 9 iron from the middle of the fairway, and top a drive all on consecutive holes.

Hadnt swung a club in months but needed some exercise and fresh air. So I played local 9 a few times in the past week.

46-47-50. Par 34.

The highlight came on the second 9. Topped driver off the tee on par 5 second hole. 5 wood from rough to the fairway. Then I hit the best 3 wood of my life from 242 out uphill. Hit it basically dead straight right at the pin but it was nowhere to be found when I got to the top of the hill. So it must have bounced into the woods behind the green. ****in smoked it.

I totally expected this story to end saying you found it in the hole

Yeah when I didnt see it on the green or the skirt I looked in the hole but apparently it was one of those magic disappearing golf balls.

After work 9-holes, 42 with two doubles and a birdie. It's been wet, and greens were WAY slower than usual, took some getting used to.

Doubled a par three when I straight shanked it, something I pretty much never do. No clue what happened there.

I had a hole out earlier this year where, like you, I walked up to green after a perfect shot and didn't see the ball. After a quick search long (if it was short I would have seen it), I checked the hole and there it was.

Then more recently a "similar" situation. Nice wedge to elevated green. I see the ball bounce and say "oh that's gonna be good." Walk up there and don't see the ball. I figure it must have gone in the hole again. Nope. 35 yards long.

39-40 79 yesterday (8.5 diff)

7 fwys, 7 greens, 29 putts - 3 birdies 2 doubles.

**** the bed a little on 17 a pretty straight forward par 5 where i hit the fairway and made double after an awful lay-up and then push-slicing a 7-iron into a hazard

Had 4 penalty shots (3 on the tee) and topped drive but putted the lights out - my 4 bad drives were set against about 5 that I couldn't hit better for distance and accuracy. Prob my best score with that many penalty shots ever.

Also hit driver on 2 holes that I normally would have laid back on (for no good reason) and made birdie on them both. Wedges, especially "full swing" wedges, are the strongest part of my game so I need to do all I can to get inside 130 and especially inside 100 but driving can be the worst part of my game so it's definitely something I'm working on as it has exponential benefit when I can hit it farther and keep it in play

2 birdies, 1 double

Overall pretty good. Started with par on the first 8 holes then sliced a 3 wood off of the tee on 9 into the water and made double.

36 - 39 = 75.

Personal course record by three shots, and the best I've shot since high school. A double on the back and a bogey on the easiest hole hurt something real special (for me). Just played very consistently and didn't miss putts I should make.

Nice work gents.

42-42-84 (par 73). No birdies, 1 double bogey. 70.6/131/6300 yards

Ball striking was mostly satisfactory. Bladed my only sand shot of the day into a hazard leading to the double. Chipping and pitching was mediocre. Couldn't buy a putt, had too many good looks at birdie end up right next to the hole. Sad.

49-49-98. I was BAD.

Then plan was to meet Mom at a reciprocal for dinner. It's an hour from my course. Take the direct route (right by the Bills stadium) and it doesn't occur to me that the Bills game just ended and the drive takes FOREVER. Who the hell stays to the end of a preseason game?

Meet Mom half hour late. And restaurant is closed for a wedding!!!! We go somewhere else and I got a lousy burger.

edit: yes, we had a reservation. they gave us a reservation on a day they'd be closed for a wedding. brilliant.

40-44-84. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys.

Pretty average in most respects. A handful of poor shots, some mediocre chipping. Putting was solid for once.

Haven't played for about a week was a bit rusty. 10 over putting let me down quite a bit missing some easy putts and having 3 three putts on the back 9 not hugely disappointed though striking was mostly good.

94 yesterday. On hole 11 we switched from the white tees to green. The yardages from the whites did not match the scorecard at all. 470 yard par 4? No thanks, that's not for me.

I forgot I played another 9 holes with a guy who is doing his handicap, I was basically on my knees was so tired after playing 18 before, But on the Par 5 the competition tee's are like 30-40 yards back and I managed to out drive myself if I was to play from the normal tee's, Funny how it works out sometimes. Just wish I could do that from the normal tee's might actually be able to get to the green in 2.

4 birdies, 3 bogeys

Could have been a really special round. Missed 10 and 12 footers for birdie on 1 and 2. Then from holes 4-11 I did this:

3-3-3-3-3-4-3-3 (birdie, birdie, par, birdie, par, par, par, birdie)

I was -4 through 12. Had 212y into par 5 13th where I hit a horrid push fade into the water. Ended up making bogeys on 13, 15, and 16. Hung on to stay under par.

It is my first year in a men's league at a local club and I qualified in the top 32 for the singles match play event -- wasn't overly hard, more of a total points thing than average scoring so it rewarded attendance more than anything. But still did well enough to qualify out of 120 golfers.

I have never really played a properly "competitive" event before and I found it really fun. The round was way more about the golf than most of my casual rounds with coworkers and friends. Definitely was a better environment to really focus on each shot and the game. There was also another match playing along with us.

First round opponent was one of the top net scorers for the league. He was giving me 2 strokes over 18 holes.

Won't do a hole by hole recap, but opponent poured in 4 birdies on the front to the tune of 35, so I was 4-down after 9. Yikes.

On the plus side I didn't give up and clawed it back to 1-down after I birdied 17. We finished in near darkness on 18 where I made a bogey and he parred for the win, 2UP.

It is easy to look back and realize the moments of inflection, I recklessly 3-putted #6 from just off the green and he birdied so I lost that hole when I was getting a stroke. And I also three-putted #8 for a halve where it was a routine two-putt. I quickly noticed the effects of playing a competitive match where in some situations I mentally was protecting against the bad misses or three putts versus being aggressive.

Anyways, fun experience. The idea of becoming a member where these competitions are more regular seems like it would be a positive when trying to improve further. But it didn't hurt that I felt the guy deserved to beat me and we were fairly handicapped. One of my teammates in his match had to give up 24 strokes (and he is probably a 14-16 handicap in reality, just played every week so he qualified) and lost 6&5.

42 (par 35). 1 birdie, 1 quadruple bogey.

Effing bunkers. Wind dumped my 2nd shot on the seventh hole, a long par 4, into the greenside bunker, 15 feet from the pin. Took 4 to get out despite the fact that the lip was only about a foot high. Short, liner under the lip from just short of the lip, from under the lip backwards, out. JFC. Also had a completely buried lie in a bunker on the first hole -- the entire ball was a full inch below the surface. At least I got that one up and down after hacking it out. Nearly got up and down from one on number 8.

Played a par 3 course yesterday afternoon near where I work. 45y shortest hole 185y longest. Rolled from the office to the first tee and almost jarred it to start with a tap in birdie. Flag it on number 2 and just miss from 10 feet and then hit the coldest shank I’ve hit in years on the 3rd tee. Jarring.

Did manage to hit it fine after that but never fun to smash one off the hosel.

29 +2 with that shank-double one 3 putt bogie and the lone birdie.

40-36-76 (Par 69)

1 Birdie - 10 Pars - 6 Bogeys - 1 Double

No 3 putts but only hit 6 greens in reg. Finished with 28 putts in total which has to be my lowest. 8 one putts.

Front 9 was just a bit lol rocked up on the 1st hole and quite literally zig zagged my way to the green.

Back 9 was a lot better went on a run of 6 pars and 1 birdie, I was level on 18 for the back 9, Took my driver off the tee and my heart was in my mouth as I skied it left literally went 140 yards very close to OB. I think I had like 150 out the rough took a 7 iron hit it pretty good but came out super hot and it caught some hard ground and went like 190 yards way past the green hit a decent approach gave myself a chance but ended up 2 putting for +1 on the back.

Really want to test myself on a more difficult course and see where I'm at, I've never been in hitting as well as I am now, so would be good to see.
