I have heard good things about that course. My only AZ golf trip was about 22 years ago. Played the now dead Karsten ASU course, TPC Scottsdale Desert Course (not the good one), Kierland??? and one other I can't think of.

35-38-73

1 eagle, 3 birdies, 1 double

Always good to start out -2 thru 1.

I know a guy who is really, really, good. Last time I played with him he started eagle (par 5), birdie (par 4), eagle (par 4, hole out from 140). Most amazing thing I've ever seen (golf related).

I'm teeing off at 12:48 today. I'd like to be close to 90.

Course I take lessons at starts hard par 4 then short par 5, driveable par 4, short par 5. I play with the pro a decent amount and one day he was -5 for holes 2-4 and it was definitely something to behold.

When I caddied in a Korn Ferry event a young pro from Colombia went eagle eagle birdie on holes 3-5 at TPC Colorado (short 4, short 5, short 4) in the practice round without flinching and it was amazing.

I made 3 straight birdies once and 4 in 5 holes (with a par mixed in so -4/5) and felt like I was the best ever.

Who else has seen and been on ridiculous runs?

-3 thru 2 is my best start that I can remember. My 5 of 6 stretch Sunday is probably my best stretch ever. I have had 4 consecutive birdies 2x, once in high school and once 2 years ago.

i once started birdie birdie and made the turn -1, both are career bests. i've lipped out the third birdie a few times but obviously nothing like what's been posted above.

I played a 9 hole match once in high school where my opponent started birdie-birdie-eagle-birdie.

He won.

Pulled drive into trees/hazard right. Dropped and still didn't have much of a shot left. Found a window through the trees to the green, actually hit it good expecting it to be on. Never found it.

It's one of the tougher driving holes for me, hazard left and right of the fairway (#4 handicap hole). Also fairway bunkers left and right in the landing zone, for mere mortals that is. I just hit driver now to clear the bunkers, but a little bigger miss is always in play because of it.

No birdies, no doubles, one 3 putt. Tweaked something in my back on the range which made for a rough day. Lost about 20-25 yards off the tee which caused problems on the 5 par 4's over 400 yards. Lots of longer than expected irons into greens, leading to more misses. Only hit 8 greens I think. Still not making enough putts. Bad reads, bad strokes, just bad putting.

Love love love this place. And for the first time it didn't kick my ass today. No birdies yet again, but no doubles and no penalty strokes...which is hard to to avoid here. Two 3 putts, but on these greens that's not unexpected. Did a good job keeping the ball in play off the tee and giving myself some good scoring chances. Just didn't take advantage. On two par 3's that were each between 200-205 I hit 5 irons to less than 10' but missed both putts. Wasted about 5 shots taking bogey from the middle of the fairway and only 80-150 yards out. Gotta clean that up.

Temps are supposed to be in 110-115 range through the weekend so we'll see if I make it out this weekend or not.

Wickenburg is so, so good. Top 5 course I've ever played.

I saw your TR in the Golf in Phoenix thread and almost quoted it in here. Definitely an awesome facility. And "only" about $70 right now. Definitely worth the 45 minute drive for me.

Played alone today, decided to give my long game a challenge with a 6750yd 72.4/127 track.

41-43-84. 2 birdies, 3 doubles. 6/14 FIR, 6/18 GIR. Tracked my 17 applicable approach shots. 4 were within 5 yards of target. 9 were well short but on/close to target, by >10 yards. The other 4 were pin high misses, 2 on each side.

First time I broke 80 I started with a 3-putt bogey, then birdie, par, par, birdie, birdie. Bogey on 7 then par out for -1 at the turn.

37 - Emergency 9 last night, 1 birdie, 2 bogeys. Basically speed golf, played in 45 minutes.

37-40-77

2 birdies, 1 double

Started birdie, birdie. Didn't CLOSE finishing bogey, double. For not really having much of a game today I am happy with the score. Maybe it just seemed worse since I lost $.

43-37-80. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys. 69.2/128/5900 yards.

Decent. Mostly good ball striking. Missed a couple good birdie chances. Screwups were mostly with wedges, though I did get up and down a few times.

there aren't many things that frustrate me more than having 125 or less into a hole and finishing bogey or worse.

1. three putt bogeys
2. what i said above
3. three putt pars (lol...as if that's a thing with my game)

83 (net +1) at home today in gorgeous conditions. Struggled with my swing but short game was great. 3/5 sand saves and 26 putts.

2 birdies
1 double
2 triples

Both triples were in the first 4 holes and results of really poor swings, and one godawful lie.

After triple on the 4th played the next nine holes in -1, with one bogey on 6 and two birdies on 7 & 10.

Was 1 up in my side-match against my mate, both with short clubs in hand into the 18th approach. I SHANKED mine so hard. So hard. Couldn’t believe it. He hit his to 12 feet and makes par, I hit wedge from the far side of the adjacent holes rough to the fringe and burn the edge for par, tap in for a 5 and finish all square. Wow.

2 birdies, 6 doubles

Throw that one away. 3-putt bogey on #1, then par on #2. In good shape on #3 and I am waiting in the fairway thinking "why am I playing today." Just had no interest in playing the rest of the day. If it wasn't a team match I would have just quit. I tend to have this happen to my about once every 3-4 months.

5 of those doubles were consecutive. Then decide I should play again and smoke a drive, knock it to 7 feet, then miss. Next hole smoke a drive, then from 100 I hit the stick. A nice gentle hit as it still ended up 1 fot away. Everything else sucked.

39-40-79. 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys.

Ball striking continues to be a strength. Nice to open with a birdie on a tough opening par 4, only 370y but super tight off the tee. Driver, 7 iron to four feet, made it. Had a couple other birdie putts in the six foot range that were missed, greens weren't exactly smooth. Birdied 17 after sticking a 5h to 3 feet, needed the margin of error because 18 is brutal and I made a standard double bogey.

Brief background: back to consistently playing this humbling game. I played high school, but not too earnestly, where I hit mid-single digits. Didn't play at all for years, then played a bunch during law school, then law got in the way. I've gone in spurts, couple years ago I had my handicap down to a 7, then I broke my ankle. A month after getting back to golf, I dislocated my kneecap, which actually kept me out longer than the ankle. Now I'm back to playing, but I SUCK. It's hard to want to play when I'm shooting so much worse than I was a couple years ago (and worse than I've shot in literal decades), but things are starting to improve, so I'm feeling momentum.

Right now, I just can't put together two decent nines. Played 45 holes this weekend.

Saturday:
48-41.

Started the round with three doubles in the first four holes. To score well I have ALWAYS relied on my short game; I've always been incredibly confident from 120 in. Recently took a swing lesson, and was happy with the results, but for whatever reason my short game (including chipping and putting) went to ****. I missed several dumb putts en route to those doubles, and after missing another on hole 7 received a simple tip from my playing partner (I was standing pretty far away from the ball on putts) that really changed things. I parred 8 and bogeyed 9 after being in the sand, and went on to shoot a 41 on the back with a double on 18.

Sunday:
41-46.
Ugh. Started par-par with barely missed birdie putt, so was feeling good. Then I just couldn't ****ing par. Couldn't hit a green, was having trouble getting it within 10 feet, and just lipped putt after putt. Bogeyed 3-7 before finally parring 8 and 9. None of the bogeys were bogey "saves," they were all tap ins from what could (should) have been pars.

Overall I was feeling pretty good, but went three straight bogeys on the back; never good on my home course. 10-12 are pars 3-5-5, and depending on which way the wind is blowing, one of the two par 5s are reachable in two. Regardless, they're scoring holes, and 3+ is bad, especially since 13-14 and beastly-long par 4s. 14 is nearly always a three-shot hole; even with favorable winds I'd need two nearly perfect shots (doesn't help that the green is surround by traps). Long story short, managed to bogey the two beasts to keep my double-bogey free round intact, but hit a trap on 17 for a double, then stymied by trees for a double on 18. Blargh.

Sunday afternoon:
41.

Disappointing 41 on the emergency nine, which is actually a good feeling. Other than one OB I never really got myself into trouble, and the bogeys could/should have been pars (as opposed to those "bogey saves").

Overall I'm feeling ok because my biggest issue right now seems to be mental errors; picking the wrong club, taking the wrong chip approach, etc. I can fix those. On a high note, my bump and run game is on point, so I'm ready for Bandon. Ha.
