looks like scott had a nice 10 hole stretch in the middle where he was -2. the first 4 holes and the last 4 holes were a bit of a different story.

41-41-82

2 birdies, 1 double, 1 triple, 1 quad

Overall pleased with the round. Not even mad about the quad per se. Moreso the triple.

Started out good going par, par, birdie, par, par. Hit my only really bad tee shot on the next hole leaving me 216y into a decent breeze, didn't get there, made bogey. Bogeyed my 8th hole of the day by 3-putting from about 80 feet.

Then my 9th of the day I made the quad. Hole is around 400 yards with a carry off the tee then water all the way down the right side to a peninsula green. My starting line is over the water letting the cut push it back over land. It did cut but unfortunately I pulled the drive about 10 yards of its intended target and splash. Have to re-tee and hit a good one leaving me 136 into a stiff breeze. Tried getting way too much out of a club and stone cold bladed it into the water. 6 on and 2-putt for the quad.

On the 11th I made double from 62y out. Elevated green and closed the club face at impact sending it over. Then thin a chip, made double. 12th hole is a very reachable par 5. Hit a floating tee shot that rides the wind OB. Re-tee and hit it good with 202y left. Power a 6-iron cutting with the wind on to 25 feet. Leave the par putt one revolution short in the heart.

13th is a 178y downwind par 4. Leave it just above the bunker in some long rough. Horrible lie I hit it to 12 feet. I then proceed to play hockey and 4-putt from there for triple. It went 12 feet, 5 feet, 4 feet, 4 feet, 6 inches. This was the only time in 36 holes that I decided to finish. Wrong play.

Then proceed to go -1 over the FINISHING 5 holes for the smooth 82.

I for sure feel like I played better today and liked the results with just smashing driver almost all day.

One funny story on the 3rd hole of the day. Par 5 plays around 490 or so. Dude hits it short of the water off the tee leaving him around 240. You have to carry the water on the second then it runs down the right side of the hole to the green. There is a 0% chance he can get to green in two. Then he goes:

2nd - 3 wood in water
3rd - drop
4th - 3 wood in water
5th - drop
6th - 3 wood in water
7th - drop
8th - 3 wood over!!!!!!!!
9th - Wedge from around 40y short on.
10,11 - 2-putt

Beat him by 7 shots on the hole.

45 par 34 yesterday morning.

Good shots: Punch draw 7 iron on 1 finished pin high 10 feet right. 5 iron from the right rough on 5 cleared the front bunker and made the green about 9 feet short of the pin. Sand wedge 12 feet right of the pin on par 3 eighth hole. Didn’t make any of the birdie putts. 5 wood tee shot on 9 made it to the downslope About 200 yards away and found the perfect fairway position.

Bad shots: Only one fat shot happened on third shot approach on par 5 second hole. 6 iron approach on 3 was hit very thin but stayed in play.

Short game could have saved a few shots here and there. One triple, few doubles, few bogeys, two or three pars. No birdies. Only made one putt from 5+ feet.

1 birdie, 1 double

Managed to reach this hole in two today.

Spoiler:

First time ever being on the putting surface. I have made eagle on it before from greenside bunker.

Beat: 3 putted from the very front of the green. Pin was back right on a shelf.

Another Beat: My personal golf cart caught on fire today. Went to the driving range and as soon as I got there I hopped off, turned around and smoke was coming from under the seat. Opened the seat and could see flames. Must me some wiring issue or something. Flames were coming from where there is a rod that sends it from forward to reverse. I was able to blow the flames out. Looks like some melted wires there now.

Variance: At least it didn't happen in my garage.

Yikes!

46-41-87. No birdies, 5 double bogeys.

Step back today, nothing was as crisp as yesterday. There were a handful of good shots, especially on the second nine.

Sun City Riverview
39-38 - 77. Par 72. 69.8\119 only 6336 yards
10\14 fairways, 12\18 greens, 34 putts

An extremely ho hum round. No birdies, no doubles, no 3 putts, no penalty strokes. Missed 6 greens and only got up and down once, and that was from a bunker. Probably one of the easiest courses I've played in Arizona otherwise I'd be a little more proud of the round.

For the $28 or whatever it cost it was a good value. Course was nothing fancy but was in really good shape for a budget course in the middle of the summer. Some others are unplayable right now. High yesterday was 115 I think but when we finished up around just after 11 it was "only" 102ish. There was plenty of shade and just enough breeze to make it bearable.

I did miss a green by 6 inches, roll my 35 ft birde putt 12 ft past and 6 inches off the green again. Missed that one too and tapped in for bogey and an unconventional 1 putt after using my putter 3 times.

I shot 73 (+2) on a 74.7/143 course from 7k yards. Best round at my course ever. Missed a 6 footer for a 72. Oh well. 34-39.

I keep reading that you should take your 5 iron and multiply it times 36 to find the tees you ought to play....for me that'd be 6,120 yards. I think shooting 73 from the tips shows I don't need to play from the ladies tees.

Very nice! That 5 iron thing is bull ****. I know a lot of players that may be able to hit a 5 iron 200 yards but that doesn't mean their 24 handicap ass should be playing 7200 yards.

If it's all short grass around the green and I'm 5 feet off of it; I wouldn't count that. My thought is that if I'm just off the green and putting I have a different expectation that way off the green and putting or off the green and chipping.
I understand what you mean and what you're trying to track. You do you with that. I do that with drives in a way...I track fairways hit, but all I'm really concerned with is "do I have a normal shot at the green or am I in trouble".

I just don't think you can claim "I hit X number of greens" unless you're actually on the green. I shot 71 with 4 greens hit and the chipping yips once because I was on the fringe nearly every single hole.

haha! Yeah and like I said somewhere else, I'm about to upgrade to some stronger lofted irons and will suddenly be hitting my 5 iron 195 instead of 170, so am I suddenly qualified to play the tips?

I understand the "movement"...shorter courses, quicker rounds, more birdies, better rounds, and I'm fine with people doing that, but I love to compare myself against the very best, even if I know I'm not at that level. I don't get to play as often as I'd like and maybe if I was playing twice a week or 3 times a week I'd tee it forward more.

On the topic of GIR and FIR, I had two tee shots Saturday I counted as missed fairways even though they were right where I meant to hit it. Both were sharp doglegs right with no trouble on the line I was taking. I was never going to reach the fairway on those lines, but the "rough" was shorter and nicer than a lot of the fairways on some courses. Definitely no penalty for being in it.

Same with a GIR. Sometimes you're 15' away but off the green by a few inches but a lot better off than if you were on the green but 50' away. Count them as missed fairways and greens, but make mental notes that you hit good shots in those situations. Not all GIR and FIR(how do we make these plural? Feels like the RBI discussion) are created the same. Stats are great for tracking your improvement, but the numbers obviously don't tell the whole story.

39 (par 35). No birdies, no double bogeys.

Ball striking was quite good, though I only hit 2 greens in regulation. Screwed up a couple chips, missed a couple short putts. All in all not bad.

53 par 36 back nine. Second time playing the course. Got sent to the back 9 because they didn’t take my reservation for a single, or they bumped me whatever I got to play.

First shot was in front of 8 people starting the back, and they were nice to let me play first. Striped the first shot and I was off. Bogeyed 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18. Missed many par putts between 5 and 10 feet. Short game was bad, irons were good, 5 wood off the tee on the 300+ yard holes was good on 3/6 attempts, but the bad shots created big numbers on the par 5s. Two tops and two lost tee shots on 12 really hurt the card.

5 wood uphill approach on par 5 twelfth hole(6th shot) from 200(?) finished in the rough right behind the back pin location was a moral victory.

More nice people let me play through on 16th tee.

Put four or five approaches in the back rough with irons that were flying pure on holes that had big banks behind and trouble in front.

The front was totally booked but guy was nice and gave me an old fashioned rain check.

Just played the front 9. 52 par 35.

Decent off the tee and fairway but terrible around the greens. One par two bogeys.

35-37-72

3 birdies, 3 bogeys, 12 pars

Took 3 days off and worked on the range, especially with driver. Found something that will likely work for all of a week.

About as smooth of a 72 as you can get. Had a stretch on 10-12 where I bogeyed them all. CLOSING with a -2 over the last 6.

Nice playing scott! Saturday I'm playing the same course I played last weekend so hoping to be flirting with par. Though leaving the beer and weed at home would probably be a good first step.

40-43-83. No birdies, 1 double bogey.

Quite satisfied with the ball striking, it really didn't cost me any shots other than the double, where I got caught between clubs and pured one a couple yards over the green and OB. Botched a couple wedges from 70 yards on par 5s. Actually was able to go for a par 5 in two after crushing a drive.

Short game let me down, though, and I'm pretty dissatisfied with the putting. I need to get the ball closer to the hole, but I'm not one putting from any distance with regularity.

42-40-82 net even.

Wasn't really feeling it early, starting bogey-bogey-bogey in pretty meh fashion, inc 3-putt on 3. Then took a triple on the par-5 4th after a lost ball. Sand-save on the 5th with a nice putt to steady the ship, then drained a 15 footer for birdie on 6. Managed to par out the 9, then birdie 10 to really right the ship! Felt pretty sick to go -2 through a 6-hole stretch immediately after losing a ball.

We were playing a 2vs2 match, playing front/back/total and started out 3 down through 4 before pulling back to lose the front 1 down. Birdie on 10 helped put us ahead, though gave some back and found ourselves 1 down before I won 15. Lost 16, so 1 down with 2 to play. Short uphill par 3 17th, I hit it closest and putt last after opponent and my partner both make 3. Managed to sneak the birdie putt juuuuust into the top side of the hole for a clutch win, leaving us all square on the last.

We'd lost the bet for front nine, so a win on the 18th would give us the back nine and a 1-up win overall. Lose the hole and we're all square for the back and 1 down for the match, so must win. I hit a horrible tee shot, leaving a ton of tree trouble, but made a big up and down for bogey to finish. My partner had done very little thus far, and was the only one of us getting a stroke on 18, and decided to use it! Striped it long and straight, missed the green then got up and down, canning a 6 footer to win the match.

3 birdies
2 doubles
1 triple
25 putts

38-44-82. 2 birdies, 1 double bogey.

Really dialed in on the front. The only shot I missed was a chunked second on the par 4 ninth. Short game let me down again, I left two more very makeable birdie putts a rotation or so short and really all four of my front nine bogeys were due to poor pitching/chipping/putting. Lost focus right away on the back and just scraped it around.
