Used my free 9 holes this morning. +13/47. Good driver straight down left side of fairway on par 5 second hole. On 180 yard par 3 I landed short in the rough, but landed the pitch shot right where I was aiming and it bounced off the slope and missed the cup by inches. Made the 5 foot putt for par. Decent pitch on 7 to 10 feet but I pulled the putt. Laid up on 9 to 135 and then landed 9 iron pin high 15 feet left. Made the par putt to finish on a high note.

Last 4 holes went par bogey bogey par.

I’m happy with how the past week has gone.

5 birdies, 4 bogeys

Practice round at where the mid-senior is at. IMO one of the toughest courses in the area. Only played in once before during an interclub match. Thought it was crazy tight. Turns out I just hit it too crooked back then. 4 of the 5 birdies were < 5 feet away.

I played for the first time yesterday since quarantine started.

Had to wear a mask at the driving range. Only one person per cart. No rakes. No biggie.

The only real drawback was at the end of the round where you just settle your bets and leave. No sitting in the bar. Go to your car and leave.

My game was super rusty. I was striping it at the range but didn’t transfer to the course.

2 birdies, 2 doubles

Not nearly as good today. Was -1 thru 6 then nothing after that. Chipping salvaged the score. Only hit 3 of the last 12 greens in reg.

43 for 9 on par 34. +9.

Par on 1. Double bogey on 3. Rest bogey. Best 9 of my life but didn’t hit a single green in regulation. Chipped in a few times including the last hole. Hit a few 10 to 20 foot putts.

Note that it was raining hard for 3 through 9. Idgaf though it was fun. Had the place to myself and I love it out there alone.

I'm going to do the qualifiers for both of those as well. I've qualified for the am twice, and it was super humbling... I hit it pretty far compared to most other mid ams, but the high school and college kids were just bombing it.

September is nice up there. I played in the mid am when it was at Keystone the other year. 3 putted 4 times in the second round and missed the cut by 1

There was a really nice private course I played some high school matches on. I thought it was super tight and the bunkers were all 10 feet deep. Several years later I played some kind of FSGA fourball with a buddy there, and it felt wide open and straight forward. I was like what was I so afraid of back then???

Really thick rough and they had the greens rolling really fast. On #5 I lost a ball in the rough that should have been easily found and had to do the walk of shame back to the tee.... Its only 7000 yards but par 70 and you can't hit driver off a lot of holes so it plays longer than you would expect. I think its a great golf course. You can score if you get on a roll, but if you aren't playing great its not easy at all. Back in the day it was a playground for Hale Irwin.

Didn't realize they got snow in Aspen. It was rainy / windy in the Denver area today but its been warm.
Played a qualifier for the state match play up there on Monday for the first time. Was a fun little course. Shot 35-37. Made 16 pars and 2 bogeys, and lipped out like 5 putts including 2 u-turns. Honestly didn't even putt bad, especially on front, just could not get anything to fall. Hit like 14 greens, but had between 10-20 feet on almost every one. Weird to play a tournament with foam in the cups, and putting 2 footers with the pins in.

I'm the opposite - used to sling drivers around everywhere with a lot of good results. Now I'm on every tee box seeing nothing but trouble - need to get my mind right.

46-48-94 on par 68

Just my second full 18 in Recent history and it’s clearly not as easy on my feet as it used to be when I was 25.

I was really happy with the first 8 holes. Then it fell apart. However I hit some really good shots that flew just as intended. Missed the green way left on 17. Pitched over a bunker to 7 feet. 7 iron From 165 out of the rough on 3 landed pin high but went over the back. 2nd bunker attempt on 15 finished 5 feet away. Short game is improving fast.

Looking at my score card I was +6 through 8. Then on 9 just as I picked my head up to see where it was going a huge owl flew directly at me. Didn’t have much chance of finding the ball somewhere in the trees on the right. The owl flew right by me and into the tree behind the box. We had a good laugh about it.

One birdie, 2 pars. 10 bogeys. Rest have already been intentionally forgotten.

congratulations on finding your golf spirit animal.
the owl is there to let you know just because he can spin his head around doesn't mean that you should.

It’s amusing because I used to use the monkey emoji as my go to with my girlfriend but since we broke up I’ve been using the owl instead. Quite fitting indeed.

4 birdies, 2 bogeys

Tied the career low. Handicap will be 1.7 tomorrow. Kinda odd that those two sentences go together, but they do.

The three birdies were all of the kick-in variety on the front. One of the two bogey came when I went for a par 4 off the tee, ball hit a tree over the water, then kicked backwards about 30 yards into the water. Really kicking myself over the 3-putt par on 13. Hit 13 GIR.

44-45-89. No birdies, three or four double bogeys. I actually kept the card for once but left it in my bag after the round. I think it was 70.4/135/6,205 yards. Pilgrim's Run outside Grand Rapids, one of the nicer public courses in Michigan.

Driver inconsistent, hybrids mostly good, irons poor, pitching poor, chipping mostly poor, putting bad. I should do some tracking. Feels like in past years I've been able to paper over poor short game technique with decent hands but right now nothing is working. I'm probably most frustrated by my inability to compress an iron and make consistent contact.

44-51-95. Par 68.

Beat: left birdie putt 5 feet short from 20 feet downhill

Brag: hit a drive exactly how I intended. Hit 45 foot slider.

Variance: played the front with super nice father and son. Played the back with very inconsiderate 3 some.

Wow, thanks for the blast from the past!

I went to CU-Boulder in the early 1990s and Flatirons was the only golf course I remember playing in Boulder. Even back in those days, it was "an older course". All I really remember is that it was sort of long and straight as hell and there were trees everywhere. If u hit tee shot in the rough...on most holes u had to chip out to the fairway due to the trees.

I do remember getting a new set of irons circa 1992 for Xmas and sneaking out on a snow-covered course with a roommate to play a few holes. No security at all...doubtful that could be done again these days.

Unofficial 49-40-89. Par 68.

Missed 7 birdie putts from less than 20 feet.

First tee shot was practice swing because I didn’t sleep at all last night. Yes I would have played it if it didn’t disappear into the woods 40 yards away on the left.

Was striking it better than ever. Short game sucked.

48-45-93. No birdies, many doubles, 1 triple. 70.2/125/6000

I don't think I successfully repeated a swing all day. Hit 1 good drive, maybe two more that were OK, the rest were awful. Chipped pretty well, which is good because I was never on in regulation.

Was a productive day in one sense, decided to make some equipment changes. I stuck the six iron from my old set in the bag and although I had directional issues due to the offset in general I thought I hit it better. So I'm going to throw the Eye2s back in the bag. Tried out a different putter but bailed on that after 9.

And for every good, there is sometimes bad.

41-43-84

1 birdie, 3 doubles

Made a 10 footer for birdie on one and that was it. Didn't make anything outside of 3 feet all day, including 2 birdie putts inside of 5 feet on the front. I really need to learn to bear down and play even if I know the score will not count on the handicap. When I get to 4 or 5 over I just give up and check out for the day. This happens especially on Sundays because it's a team game and we usually need something like low 2 of 4 scores. I get ultra-aggressive and that obviously leads to poor shots.

Time to write it off and start again on Tuesday. Tourney coming up on Saturday.

i was the first out on the course at 610 am lol. had the place to myself for the front 9.

official 42 on the front. unofficial 49 on the back due to a lost 2nd shot on 3 that i think i walked right past in the right rough and a lost tee shot on 14 that i thought stayed in the left rough but somehow disappeared out of bounds in the trees. par 68 course.

good shots: 5 wood out of the rough short of fairway on 1 flew nice and straight toward the green. drive on uphill par 5 2nd hole had typical slight fade went about 280 and trickled into the right rough. 6 iron on 3rd hole par 4 from the right rough made it over the river just short of the green flew as intended with slight fade around a large tree that was between me and the green. 54 degree wedge on par 3 from 110 yards stopped pin high about 8 feet to the left, made the birdie. 5 wood from the rough short of the fairway on par 4 5th flew just as intended going straight at the green. chipped in for bogey on par 3 6th from the rough 2 paces off the green. 7 iron off the tee on 8 flew just as intended around the dogleg left over the small tree in the middle of the fairway and finished 2 paces from the 100 yard marker in center of fairway. punched the 54 degree wedge under the branch that hangs over the river in front of the 9th green came up just short of intended landing spot short of the green. 5 wood from the rough 2 paces in front of tee box on the 300 yard 10th left me about 70 yard pitch to try and save par. 6 iron from 175 on uphill par 5 11th didn't cut as intended but finished on the green far left about 10 yards past the pin that was changed to front right location while i played the front. 2 putt from 50-60 feet on 11. best provisional 5 wood i ever hit on par 4 12th went through the 40 yard wide fairway which takes a 90 degree turn at 185 yards did not fly as intended with fade, but had slight draw instead and flew pretty damn far. pitching wedge from 130 on par 3 13th finished pin high about 10 feet left and i birdied it for the 2nd time today. 5 wood off tee on par 4 14th flew as intended with a high draw, but apparently i didn't aim far enough to the right since it bounced through the left rough into the trees. 50 yard pitch over large bunker on par 3 15th from the rough finished 4 feet from the cup. hit the green on par 3 16th in the front left corner was about 5 yards left of the pin, but was wrong club since they had moved the pin to back right location. 8 iron on par 4 17th from 155 had slight draw as intended but flew the green somehow. 8 iron from 155 on par 4 18th flew a bit low but made it over the river and found the back of the green.

bad shots: 1st shot of the day never got over 2 feet off the ground and went about 30 yards. pulled 1st tee shot into the woods on par 5 11th. drew 2nd tee shot into the woods on par 5 11th. topped 3rd tee shot on par 5 11th and it went about 70 yards. hit tee shot on par 4 5th fat and it popped up into the right rough. etc etc time to forget the bad shots.

had a thick long sleeved shirt on over t shirt for the front, and i think taking it off to start the back 9 was a mistake in retrospect. i honestly havent hit a decent draw with my driver nor 5 wood in recent history, but i was apparently quite loose after the front 9. thats why i think i was drawing the driver and 5 wood.

all that nonsense aside, it was a great way to start the day. im happy with the 42 on the front for +8. combining yesterday's back 9 score of 40 and the 42 today gives me hope that im not wasting my time.

/tldr

Keep it going Bob! First off is so nice.

34-38-72

5 birdies, 1 double

Was -3 through 8, going for the 9 hole low (currently 33) and I shoved it in the water off the tee. Doubled a hole in lol fashion. Blocked out all I had was a pitch to the fairway and I chunked it into fairway bunker.
