Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Pins were not in overly difficult positions. The grain in the greens is some of the most severe I have ever played. Not good when I can't read grain that well. It's also what I believe to be an older strain of bermuda that you don't see much any more (not sure what it is). Combine all that and it's lol me on the greens.

play it a few more times and it's a 4-5 stroke difference.

I'm sure. For how well I played on the front there is no reason why I should't have turned in under par.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

35-38-73

3 birdies, no doubles (not even close actually)

Back to normal. 1 week old aerated greens likely contributed to less birdies than I should have had. 14 GIR.

44-42-86 - lol tournament golf (Innisbrook Island)

3 birdies, 4 doubles

Good for a t2!!!!! Course was not in good shape at all as it was closed down for two months. The tee boxes were suspect at best. Fairways were decent and rough was actually long. Everybody showed a little bit of tournament rust.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

41-35-76

3 birdies, 1 double

About time I have a back 9 better than the front. Was not even close to having it early. Then was knocking down pins late.

I'm down to just 2 holes that I haven't birdied on my courses.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

45-47-92. No birdies, about 5 double bogeys. May have been six.

Played a longer, soggier course and I noticed one thing -- despite the extra 250 yards (6400 vs 6150) on the card, I never pulled a fairway wood until the last hole, where yesterday I had fairway woods into more than half of the par 4s and a couple par 5s. Did have to hit driver on two of the par 3s today.

Greens were seedy and no putts were made. Otherwise, despite the lousy score I was reasonably pleased, hit a few decent shots and finally compressed a couple irons. Not consistently, but it's a start.

About the 2 non-birdie holes yet I assume.

#5 south, 390y par 4

Dogleg left with a fairway bunker on the right. If you are in it you are basically blocked out by a tree on the corner unless I can hit a hook, which in the bunker is likely not to happen for me. If you are too far left you are blocked out by trees. I usually hit hybrid off of this tee because the landing area is super tight with anything more. Approach shot to the green with bunkers guarding the short left and short right of the green. You need to be below the hole to have a decent look, which brings in the bunkers. So basically this is all about the tee show and the 15 yard window you need to land it in, without going too far or too short.

#12 north, 350y par 4

Dogleg left with a super tight window to hit it through off of the tee. Anything a little ways off gets knocked down about 50 yards off of the tee. You can go over the trees with some effort. If you are in the fairway bunker left or left of that you are in jail with just a pitch back to the fairway. If you go through the fairway you risk hitting the backside of a slope or the cart path and bounding into the trees. If you keep it just short of the trees then you are likely blocked out by a tree about 40 yards short of the green. The green is guarded by bunkers left and right. Green is super narrow in the front and slopes back to front making downhill putts hard to stop at the hole. This one is really about the tee shot too. I have hit everything from driver, to 3 wood, to hybrid and still don't like any of those options.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Letting you guys live through the life of a growing no0b golfer LOL. I'm finally hitting iron shots fairly consistency which is the biggest relief there is. When I say consistently I simply mean I'm making contact more times than not and limiting the total duffs or topping of the ball through the rounds. I still have them on big par 5 because I try to swing too hard but getting over that for that most part (still a loooooong) way to go has made the game so much more fun.

Yesterday I woke up at like 4:30am and couldn't get back to sleep. Checked the tee times for our local par 60 course and they had the first tee time, 6:00am, available. I'm very anxious about playing with strangers because I completely suck and feel bad about holding them up and donking the ball around the course, but I said **** it and went. First shot I hit beautifully and parred the first hole par 3. Then holes 2,3,4 it was back to duffville. Couldn't chip and was hitting shots from the rough just beside the green over the green and then back over the green. Crushing them without getting it in the air. I was so embarrassed not because I expect to be anything but a shitty golfer but because the older country club looking dude I was paired with went par, birdie, par, par on those holes.

After that though I played the best round of golf I've ever played in my life. Ended up shooting a 78 (+18) but a 36 (+6) on the back 9. It felt so amazing and just hooked me even further into loving this game. The 6:00am time is now my new favorite time and I'm going to look for it more often. Having the hole course to yourself with no one in front of you is the best feeling ever.

I've also learned I love walking a course. I can't wait to be consistently good enough to just book solo tee times at the par 72 courses and not worry about being a dead weight in the group. This sport rules

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I got back into golf last year after playing about once a year for 10 years. Yesterday, I was able to get 45 holes in. I started off with a 103 then played the front nine three times - 45, 44, 44. I'm a 19 handicap so I was pretty happy about string of front nine scores after the 103. Right now, my short game is really bad.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

43-45-88. 1 birdie, 4 double bogeys, 1 triple.

Struggling. Wasn't good off the tee, irons shots were inconsistent and the putting was bad. Did nearly have a hole in one on a 200 yard par 3, ball may have lipped out and ended just over a foot from the cup.

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Broke 80 for the first time ever! Took 10 years was not sure I'd ever get there.

39-39-78 +6
2 birdies, 8 bogeys

I'm a 15hc, last 3 rounds have all been over 90. Not sure where today's round came from.

Irons were actually not great, but had my best day with the driver I can remember. Short game solid, chipped in for birdie, made a bunch of bogey saving putts.

Honestly could have been better, got nervous at the end and bogeyed the last 3. Had a legit chance at 75. Still beat my previous best by 4 strokes.

Burned a lot of edges today for birdie from reasonable distance. If half of em fall I would have shot 68.

Thanks all! Was exciting, I was definitely tight on those last few, but very happy to have accomplished a long-time goal.
