Shot a really crummy 42-50-92 on a new course to me yesterday. 6400, 73/130 I think it was. Swing totally left me on the back. Didn't strike a good shot until I got fed up and just went super aggressive on my hip turn with my drive on 18 and absolutely pummeled it. Took that little glimmer of hope to the range last night and had a really great session on the range which I don't often do, I have hardly hit any balls this year. Hope it holds for the next two weeks on our annual boys trip.

Side note, how does everyone approach a course that is new to them? Any change in mentality? ****-it-I'm-going-for-it? Or do you play passively to avoid the unknown troubles and try to score better? I hate incurring unforced errors as a result of lack of course knowledge but I suppose it is a fact of life playing something new.

The way I think of it the unknown is just unknown, if you find a blind bunker or water there is nothing you can do. I really don't play any different. Better to be short than long, etc. I might check trees or bunkers for rollout numbers off of the tee.

I tin cupped a hole today.

1. 3 wood, left lateral hazard.
2. Same
3. Hook OB right
4. Top into hazard
5. See #1
6. See #3
7. Fairway!!!!!!!!!!!

Brain freeze or something. Other than that I played OK.

Playing The Cradle at Pinehurst tomorrow. Probably go around it 2 or 3 times.

Tobacco Road Friday at 8:15 for a one day event.

Saturday at Pinehurst #2 7:39 off of #10, the play #8 on Sunday.

If it's just some random course I don't worry about it. I play based on what I see unless I have someone who knows the course with me.

If it's a well known course or something I've been looking forward to playing I'll do my research. Course websites often have a lot of information and google maps can be useful too.

42-42-84

0 birdies, 3 doubles. Swing was good early but the putter was not. Miss the 2nd green but make a great chip to 2 feet...and then I missed the putt. Sent it about 3.5 feet by...and I missed that one too. Also missed another 2 footer about 4 holes later, then I was fine after that.

Swing fell apart on 15th tee. Sprayed it waaaaaay left into the woods. Found it and had about a 2 foot window 30 yards long to get back to fairway. Was in pine straw so I chunked it into the waste area but made it out of trees. Then hit an 8 iron to 2 feet and make par.

Finished way down on the leaderboard.

Pinehurst #2 tomorrow at 7:39a off of 10th tee.

How were conditions? I’ve never been in the summer and have heard that July can be less than ideal.

Played Tobacco Road today. Great condition. The 110* heat index is what I didn't like. It's just ****ing hot here.

Pinehurst is in great shape as far as I can see so far (from the restaurant behind 18 and from the range).

45-43-88

1 birdie, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 quad

Played the back 9 first, which was the 45. The 43 was with a triple and a quad. Made triple on the first, was in the green side bunker in 2. Bunker sits about 10 feet below the green and runs away. Took 5 from there, bunker, chip, putt, putt, putt.

The quad was on 7 where I had to take an unplayable in the waste area. Was a comedy of errors after that, but I did make a 12 footer to save the quad.

Birdie was on 8. Had 7 iron into the green from hardpan and left it short and right of green in the bunker. Hit the 20 yard bunker shot to 3 feet.

I actually putted fairly well, had only 2 3-putts which I will take for Pinehurst.

I sit t15 out of 23 but am only 4 shots off of 5th.

84. 1 eagle, no birdies, 3 (?) double bogeys. 69.6/129/6,052 yards.

Nice to be back in action after a long layoff. Especially when you two hop a 5 iron into the cup on the opening hole (par 4) for the first eagle of the season.

New course to me, short, classic old school layout. Didn't play particularly well, but most everything was ok. Did leave the ball in the bunker twice which I almost never do - shortsided with heavier sand.

Followed it up with a 36-43-79

can I just take my back from yesterday and front today? they're still consecutive. like a tiger slam. 7 birdies in that 18 hole stretch for a 69.

Played well but couldn't score early. Played like **** and scrambled late. Finished middle of the pack (13/22)

I went over to one of the local golf courses this morning to play. I asked Pro Shop Guy if there were any groups he could pair me up with. He said no, only foursomes. I told him I'd be on the putting green waiting.

Should I be annoyed if I saw a twosome go out 15 minutes later?

Could have been a simple slip of the mind. I would have gone in and gave him a bit of a jolt and reminded him, if nothing else.

47-48. Pretty easy course compared to what you guys probably play. My goal is to break 90, which I've never done. First time out I was +5 through six and finished +32. My ball striking has improved a ton over the last couple of years, but my putting is abysmal. I probably average 45 putts a round and they're not large greens so it's not like they're long putts. If I can ever learn to putt I might be a bogey golfer.

Putting can be taught. I have confidence that you can drop 10 shots in no time with a little putting practice.
