+7 through 12 holes before the thunder arrived. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys.

So inconsistent right now. Having some back issues, which is not helping. Putting mostly very good today.

Day one of two-day stroke play tournament yesterday. First time ever playing the championship flight. Had never played the back tees; I was a hot mess.

47-49 96. 3 fairways, 3 greens, 37 putts, 3 penalty shots, 3 chip-outs from errant tee balls that ended up at the base of trees. A quad, 2 triples and a gaggle of doubles. 5 pars. Made nothing outside of 6 feet.

Felt like moving up stakes in the pokers and getting absolutely smashed. Felt my attitude and grind was there; just couldn't get anything going. Bounce back day; time to find something and feel some comfort I hope.

40-45-85

1 birdie, 2 doubles

4 3-putts again. I'm not the world's best putter but I rarely 3-putt.

Worst round in quite some time for me. Time to take another week off.

played four rounds in four days (and a couple of reroute nine hole chapmans) during our annual trip to Tokatee in Oregon. it's a short course and the rating is low because there are hazards off the tee on only a few holes. the primary defense are several narrow fairways, punishing rough if your ball is sitting down, and all the greens are multi-tiered, cut short and have a very strong grain towards the western sun. an honest rating would be somewhere in the 122 range.

round 1: net even 88.
round 2: net -10 (78) and the first time i've ever broken 80. birdied the first two, bogey on the 1HC seventh and turned -1. doubled 10 (the 2 HC par 4) after punching out over the green from the trees, and had five other bogeys to finish. only found 3 fairways and 7 greens but had 29 putts and had five up & downs including a couple from the sand.
round 3: +3 net 91
round 4: +1 net 88 (would have been net even but was using my new found HC after the most current revison).

if you guys ever find your way to Oregon i strongly suggest playing Tokatee....it's a freaking blast.

41-43-84. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys, 1 triple bogey.

Made progress today, finally started compressing some irons a little. Hit solid drives until big hooks on 15 and 16 (which predicably resulted in a triple and a double). Short game and putting was mediocre.

thanks KJ.

in hindsight i was playing with the perfect group of guys. i was well aware of what i was doing as i turned -1, they were also well aware (as i found out after talking to them after the round...apparently there was a lot of chatter i didn't hear), but everything was just very calm during the round and i really didn't feel any pressure (the beer probably helped).

we had 6 foursomes playing, counting the team's best net two scores for the team game. we made the turn at -16 net on that round and finished -25. doesn't hurt that our team had a 22HC shoot an 88 and double pop on two different holes. i think his HC is legit but he's also finished in the money 5 out of the 8 rounds so i think he'll likely be audited soon

Played my first round of the season yesterday.

76 with 39 putts. I had 23 putts on the front 9, a 4 putt bogey and 3 3 putt pars.
14/18 greens.

Spent 8+ hours on the range/putting green this past week. Definitely need to work more on putting and figure something out.

Glad to see you back on here. Did you not play a lot last year or just not post a lot?

Thanks, got away from posting a little but didn't touch a club in winter and April rained something like 27 days. Stupid NE Ohio

44 (par 35). No birdies, 2 doubles, 1 triple.

Terrible driving, ok ball striking otherwise, so-so chipping and putting. Lost a ball in the rough leading to the triple.

Crazy wind today, I’m not all that well practiced in hitting low shots so it was fun, even though I didn’t score as well as I probably should have. Still shot 85 (net 73) but man I had some fun hitting some lasers with my irons.

Sunday wasn't any better; made two lucky birdies but shot the same 96. Just in the worst spots off the tee all weekend and didn't have my best in any aspect of the game.

State match-play qualifier Monday was also terrible. Hit 3 fairways and 6 greens and had a million putts and didn't get a single up and down. Shot 90 (76 qualified, 77 was a 2-for-1 playoff for the last spot).

Learned a lot; need to really work on my mental fortitude when things start slipping and have a go-to tee shot and some tempo trigger for tournaments/nervous moments.

Next tourney in 4 weekends; hope to play some good golf in the meantime to feel confident again.

Match play qualfier at Spring Valley? That course is kind of wonky.

Shot a bogey free 68 yesterday on a 72.1/138, and 69 today from the tips (74.8/142). Had 3 eagle putts burn an edge, and laid the sod over an 8 iron into the water on 17. Cleanest I've hit it all year, outside of like 2 kind of sloppy swings... easily could have been a 65. Encouraging.

^^Solid playing!

I played the qualifier in grand junction at Bookcliff - I live in New Castle (near glenwood Springs). Bookcliff is a straight forward old school cc that I played really well the first time I saw it in a practice round. Just **** the bed Monday.

+2 37 for my best 9 hole score ever. 1 bogie, 1 double (on the easiest hole on the course, lame), and a pitch in birdie on 9. only real blemishes on the round were a missed 5 footer for birdie on 3 and the shot that cost me likely 2+ strokes on the par 5 7th when I fanned my second shot way out to the right and into the trees.

48-42-90. No birdies, 3 doubles, 1 triple. 69.8/129/6050 yards

Whole game is a dog's breakfast right now. Not even getting putts on the center of the clubface ffs.

Birdied the opening hole before the sky opened up and it started thundering so we quit.

In NC this week looking to get in 3 rounds around Raleigh. Weather doesn't look good there either.

One of the best rounds I've ever played and my irons were absolute **** again. Started off with a snowman on the very first hole then didn't do anything worse than a double bogey for the rest of the front 9. My putting was awesome on the front 9 on some moderately tricky greens. No 3 putts until the 9th hole where I had my first look at par for the day. Major downhill left to right from about 8 feet. Barely tapped it read it really good but it hit the lip and rolled another 8 feet away and I missed the 2nd putt out of frustration as much as anything and 3 putted. Could have been out of the front 9 with a 48 which would have been huge for me. Getting under 100 on a full par 72 this summer is a major goal for me.

Back 9 snowmanned to start again. Was still carrying the frustration of that missed par putt and then 3 holes later got a 10 on a par 5. Couldn't find my ball that I swore was in play, dropped and duffed a shot into a bunker about 180 yards away and it was just a disaster. My irons completely let me down. Ended on a positive note on the par 3 172 18th hole. With my irons being complete **** all day I took my driver, which I was hitting great all day, for my tee shot and put it on the fringe, chipped way left of the pin to the top of the hill and watched it roll to within 2 feet of the cup. Was the best chip I've ever had and the stick I got for playing "old man golf" for driving on a short iron hole was well worth it. Ended the day with my only par and went out on a high. This sport is so fun and I want to play every single day. What's frustrating is I played our very narrow par 60 county course the day before and hit my irons great.

3 birdies, 10 pars, 2 bogeys, 3 doubles

Played the tips of a Tom Kite course in Raleigh. Tipped out around 6,900 with a par 71. 6 par 3s, 5 par 5s, and 7 par 4s. Love this so much.

Started with 7 straight pars then a birdie on 8. Got away from me on the back but finished birdie, birdie to salvage a decent score.

42-44. First time taking a cart this year. Normally walk my local muni which is kept in immaculate shape (not quite Bethpage nice but very solid for residents at $42 walking) but is all hills. Definitely saved some strokes by not being exhausted after 15 holes.

Besides the 4th 160ish yard par 3, each hole has some severe elevation change. Also most of the holes favor a draw, which has been a go to shot of mine forever now since I play most of my rounds there

I don't think I've ever played a Tom Kite design.

Correct. Plenty of room off of the tee. Greens are fairly large with significant slopes on some of em. Greens were very slow, probably because of all of the rain.

A couple of the par 5's were very Tom Kite like. Hazards covering the front of the green so you couldn't bomb away at em. The 10th is a great example. I hit 4 iron off the tee, big downhill that ran out at about 260 or so. Then you have to hit your next shot to an island between 140y and 180y. Then you have about 130 to the green.
