39-43-82

2 birdies, a few doubles

Started off great, was -4 thru 4 holes. Then went +5 over the next 4 holes. Then birdied 9. Irons went to **** after that.

Did crank out what I believe is my career long at sea level. Hit one 336y with about a 10 mph tailwind. It's Florida, so the hole was flat.

Lota golf this weekend. 36 yesterday. 81 in morning with my clubs 8 am 16 ppl gambling crew. First time playin with them and I cleaned up. Won the greenies and birdie money, also the $20 cart vs cart. Took $136.

Second 18 with the boys, shot 84.

Just finished this afternoons round at the club..low round of the young season. 79. Didn't get many 70's last year maybe just 1.
+4 front 9.
Bogie on 10 after finding a thorn bush patch off the tee. went in and hit 4i out barely and cut my legs, arms, pants all up lol..
Doubled 11 with a stupid double chip on a par 3. I chunked 4 chips this round and had 3 chunked pitches after bomb drives.

Finished final 7 holes Even with one bogey, birdie on 16, birdie on 17, bogey 18.

Birdie on 16 was awesome. I hit a dart to 3 feet, almost jarred it.
Putt from 3 feet toilet bowled around the hole and lipped out...sat on edge for 8 seconds then dropped in...Never seen that before it was awesome.

Dropped my handicap down from a 7.4 to a trending 6.4...

Today I changed my ball from a ProV1X to a ProV1 and what a difference. I like that one so much better. It goes so much straighter for me.. Def sticking to it and think it'll help me a lot.

Finally putting great too, hitting all my lines and getting good rolls. Greens were rolled this weekend but aerated 2 weeks ago so can't wait til spring gets these courses into shape.

Really thinkin I can par my course. Just gota work on my chipping/pitching from 50-60 yards.

Really unacceptable to be outside of 5 feet from 50 yards if I wana get to the next level and become scratch

Got my first 18 of the year in. Was about 3-5 deg C. Got hail, rain, and snow. Decent wind.

69.4/132, 6280 yds. 86 with one bird, where I had to take a customer call and made a 25 footer with one hand.

Pretty happy all things considered!

Had a 4 man shamble today, 1 low gross and 1 low net and can't be the same. We shot -10 and finished 2nd to last out 21 teams.

I think we used 4 of my drives all day long, and one of those was a par 3. When you hit 2-3 drivers in a regular round then try to pull 14 of em = me no good.

Had a lot of practice time this week and ....

38

2 birdies, 2 doubles

I had the reverse double bounce back today, birdie, birdie, double.

Moved up a set of tees to get some confidence. Started out -2 through 6. Then on a short par 4 I hit 5 iron off the tee and pulled it a touch, the ball hit a tree and bounced about 20 yards straight right and OB.

Then on 18 I hit my tee shot left of the fairway. Had to punch through some trees and a tight window to get it back to the fairway. Good contact but it hit a tree root and shot straight up into the tree....never to return.

Supposed to play 18 tomorrow but t-storms and 25-35 mph winds might make it extra fun.

2 man scramble today, shot 76 with zero birdies. Only hit a handful of greens. Steady north wind at 20-25 mph didn’t help

Ball striking continues to be horrific.

Matched my career best 75 yesterday. Had done it on this course before but from the silver tees (68.2/119) and yesterday was one set back (70.7/123).

38-37. 3 birdies 4 bogies and a double. Hit 11 greens. 28 putts and I ran it though a strokes gained putting calculator and was +.55 vs pga tour and +4.7 compared to a 7 handicap like myself.

Super enthused for this season; the goof stuff from end of last year seems I seem to have held onto. I’m going to be playing more tournaments this year - confidence is starting to rise so I’m looking forward to those.

45-41-86 today for me. 1 birdie and 5 doubles. Steady 20+ mph wind today which is no excuse at all. We have a course that about 14 of the 18 holes face the same way. Today was mostly a quartering helping wind. Started with a 309y drive off of #1 and had 9 iron into the par 5. All bad from then on.

42-40-82 = 1 birdie, 2 doubles

Hit the ball worse than yesterday and putted bad too, still managed to shoot 6 shots better.

Odd hole of the day was a 389y dogleg right with wind going left. Toe hooked a 3 wood off the ree and hit a tree but kicked back short of the fairway but on the mowed walkway to the fairway. 251y 3 wood to 15 feet....and then I 3-putted.

ouch on the 3 putt par.

worst round in a few months this morning. +1 net
7 fairways (two were non-driver holes, two more were popups that found the middle)
1 green
33 putts, 3 one putts, the rest were two putts
2 doubles, 1 par.

driving sucked, irons sucked, short game sucked, putting sucked....can't wait to get out again.

Broke 80 for the second time ever on Friday.

39-40-79, 6393 yds, 71.1/133. 3 birdies, two silly doubles.

4 rounds in so far, great to play this much this early in the year. 75-150 yds needs a lot of work but otherwise swing feels good.

Nice work on the 79... Can’t wait to break 80!!

Shot a frustrating 86 yesterday, best driving day in forever. Slowed way down and just focussed on a balanced, complete swing and Christ I hit it well. Had under 100m left on the 10th which meant a drive of over 260m, not sure on exact.

Only one double, the rest pars and bogeys. Double was on a par 5 where I hit my one bad tee shot of the day. Just could not get up&down, think I made par on one hole I missed the green. My irons were all over the place, and I didn’t even putt badly - they just wouldn’t go in!

Lots of positives to take from the round though - if I can keep that sort of tempo off the tee I’m gonna start breaking PB’s regularly.

44-42-86

1 birdie, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 5 bogeys, 8 pars

Mid-AM qualifier. Started like absolute garbage yet again. 340y uphill par 4 to start. Hit 5 iron off the tee to stay short of the fairway bunker, no problem. Have 133 in and sail the green. This is where course knowledge would help. Was in some treed area where the roots grow straight up. Forget the name of em. I am in a dirt slash muddy area and think, great, dodge a bullet. Hit the ball and hit a root under the dirt and blade it 20 yards over the front of the green. Hit a ****ty chip to 30 feet and 3-putt or triple.

Manage to make pars on the next 5 holes then triple the 7th. Push a 2-iron into death. It's in a little hole so I just decide to take putter back out to fairway. Of course that fails and I hit it like the cover is still on it. Able to punch the next one into the green side bunker. Find the sandiest bunker of the course and leave it half buried in the lip after hitting first sand shot short. Blast out an 2-putt lol triple yet again.

Lone highlight of the days is hitting a downwind 6 iron on a 211y par 3 to 10 feet and make it.

Playing opponents shoot 69 and 72 and both qualify. Between them they make 3 bad shots all day. Both hit a bad drive on a par 5, one of em still makes birdie and the second made par.

Another 86. Hitting my driver the best I’ve ever hit it, that’s two rounds in a row now. It’s been the worst club in my bag for so long it’s nice to have found some rhythm with it and feeling confident on the tee again.

Can’t putt though. Like, really couldn’t putt today. What a joke

Day 1 of Member/Member

40 gross, 36 net in modified alternate shot - We hit 7 of 9 greens, and 3-putted 2 of them. All because I sent the first putt by 5 feet.

33 gross, 30 net in shamble. Had 2 net eagles, one being a 2-putt variety.

Our 66 net is 2nd in our flight, 4 shots back of the known sandbagger. His handicap was 6.4 on 4/1 and magically 9.2 on 4/15. I have played with him about a half a dozen times including in the match play a couple weeks ago and I have never seen him shoot in the 80s, EVER.

Our 73 is 3rd in gross, 5 shots back of the same group.

8 days!

35-38 73 today. 2.1 differential (70.7/123) - 7 fairways, 12 greens, 31 putts. NO DOUBLE BOGIES!

Started with a 3-putt bogie on the first hole but then made 6 straight pars with great up-and-downs on the 6th and 7th holes where both were tap-ins. 8th hole downhill par 3 over water into the wind; hit a great 9iron to 12 feet and rolled it in. My best bounce of the day was the drive on 9; hit a block that was also pretty spinny and there was trouble right; hit in the rough and took an unexpected big hop back toward the fairway leaving me just a yard off the fairway instead of in some bushes; hit it to 10 feet and made the putt. Only my second ever 9-holes under par.

Definitely was nervous starting on the 10th tee. Hit the fairway; missed the green from 120 but got it up and in (made a 5 footer on the low-side -*wipes brow*). 11 is a short par 5; front bunker in two but a back pin. Solid bunker shot and left my 15 footer short (likely had it read correctly if I hit it a foot more).

12 I hooked my tee ball and thinned my approach. Didn't get it up and down. Back to even. 13 is a long redan par 3; 6-iron pin high but just miss the 12-ish footer. On 14 hit the fairway; 111 to a back pin. My two playing companions attack the back flag and bounce off the back. I go for the more lofted wedge don't hit it great and end up on the front of the green; 45 feet with a putt that goes hard right to left, up hill first 10 feet and then slightly down the rest of the way. 3 putt bogie (1 over).

15 turns back home - the rest of the holes will be mostly dead into a 2 club wind. Hit solid drive and then hit a running 6 iron to the front of the green; miss the 15 footer straight up the hill. 16 is a medium length par 3; pin in the dead middle and wind hard in and off the right. Hit a great shot to 8 feet; poured it in (even).

17 is a medium length par-5; but the wind is dead in. 510 on the card and I nutted a low piercing drive and had 260 left; so 250 downhill. Solid hybrid left me 60 yard and I had a great angle to the back right flag. Hit a low skipping gap wedge that just rolled out; 12 feet for birdie - missed. Even heading to the 18th.

18 is a beast of a par 4. 425 dog leg left (I hit cuts) with OB left and a lake up the right side. Wind at least 20 mph in the face on the tee. But I hit a really good drive for how nervous I was the the hole/situation. Had 177 to a front flag and opted for the 195 yard shot. Basically top it with some nice hook spin and I'm short-sided in the front left bunker. I'm a terrible sand player so I blasted it out and got on the good side of the variance spectrum and had 15 feet for par and an even par round. Studied it and read it really well; but left it a foot or so short. Tapped it in for 73.

Played with my buddy who is a scratch (I beat him today, though) and he's seen me come from a 12 or so handicap a few seasons ago to a 7 trending down to a 6 and I posted back-to-back rounds with him that tied my best ever and then broke it. Pretty satisfying. Was super nervous the whole back nine; but did my best to keep to my routine and just acknowledge the nerves instead of trying to do too much. Feels great to shoot a good round today with a two-day two-man tournament next weekend and a state match-play qualifier coming up the 3rd of June.

nice work KJ!
i'm curious about your playing partner...have you found some of your best rounds are when he's in your group?
there are a couple of guys that just seem to bring out the best of me when i'm playing with them. part of it is just watching their swings, which remind me that smoooooth is better. another part is just the on course banter which reminds me that we should all try to relax and have fun while playing this stupid game we play.

I'm the same way. My buddy who got me back into the game I play very well with, same with a co-worker who has the right demeanor and fun banter. Both have a very calming effect on my game.

Agree with both - it’s not even how good some guys are it’s just some guys are comfortable to play with; make for a fun and relaxing day.

My worst rounds are like club events with a foursome that takes 5+ hours as all of us 5-25 hacks need to hole every putt and hit provisionals or look for lost balls. I hate when it’s slow and there is no rhythm to a round.

Day 2 of Member/Member

74 gross, 68 net (I shot 84, partner 78)

We were 4 back starting the day and had it down to 3 back after the second hole, never was close after that. I didn't stay but I think we finished 3rd in our flight.

Never hit the center of the face of the club til the 7th tee. Not many good swings after that.

Now my back is sore. Not sure if it's playing 4 straight days or if it was sleeping bad, but might have to take a couple of days off.

40-45-85. No birdies, 2 double bogeys. Pilgrim's Run Golf Club outside of Grand Rapids, MI.

On the road today, glad to get in a round at what I think is quite possibly the best course in the Grand Rapids area. I haven't played all of the privates, but I'm confident that this is the best public. Also nice to hit some better shots. Still a few clunkers but I'm closer.

Finally had my first eagle of the year last week. Considering I had a dozen last year and I have been hitting the driver better than ever before, it's about time.

Hit a good drive, about 10 yards short of where I have the mark below. Hit 4 iron to the bunker right of the green, then holed out from there. First time ever making an eagle on the hole.
