true, but unfortunately i rarely have the opportunity.

played again this past Sunday. was snowing with an inch on the ground when i left my house but when i got to the course 6 miles away there wasn't a trace. yes it was cold and misting early but warmed up a bit and saw some sun breaks by the end of the round.

net -4 with full winter rules in play. lots of standing water, no roll, plugged balls, water in bunkers, goose **** everywhere, etc.

10/14 fairways but only 2/14 GIR. no three putts, 3 up & downs, two 1 putt bogeys. actually disappointed with my irons after hitting them so well during the previous round. probably missed 4-5 mostly straight putts within 10 feet.

This winter has been annoying because any day the snow has melted it has been by rain. Not fun playing in ankle deep mud and being guaranteed to lose 4+ golf balls do to plugging. I have gotten better at Gran Turismo though.

Started out good making par on the first 3 holes (all par 4's). Played up a tee today so 13 is a par 5 playing only 478. Hit a good drive although I pulled it a bit. At about 200 yards it somehow drifts left about 30 feet. No clue why or how (there was no wind) and it hits the cart path right of the fairway and bounces back to the short grass 151 out. Hit wedge to 30 feet past the hole.....and the 3-putt for par.

Made a double, 2 bogeys and a birdie coming in.

We have a Ryder Cup stye event over the weekend.

Saturday - 9 holes shamble, 9 holes modified alternate shot.
Sunday - 18 holes singles.

i suppose one of the benefits of playing winter golf in Oregon is that a handful of courses have recognized people will play golf year round if there is reasonable drainage, so they've installed it. we're not expecting august conditions, but any course that plays like the one you describe above may as well lock the doors from november to april (and there are several around here that don't, but should).

footjoy high tops and rain pants (even when the sun's out) and we're good to go. one of the best things nike contributed to golf was the Air Bandon, and FJ took the idea of a waterproof high top golf shoe and perfected it.

Ha! I had a 5-putt triple once at my old home club where the greens are tiny!

Sadly most NE Ohio courses are built on heavy clay and are old. The course is open year around as they have cross country skiing and sledding when the snow allows.

I am sure I have had a 5 putt sometime. I have a bad habit of hitting the ball way off the green if I 4 putt, ESC and all

Myself (8.5 cap) and partner (7 cap).

We shot even par in modified alternate shot and +1 in shamble. Both of our opponents were mid-7's. We lost modified alternate shot 1 down. The difference was where they got a shot on the 1 handicap hole. We won shamble 1 up.

I think I missed 3 putts under 5 feet today which cost us a win or a push on a hole. At least I made the last 5-footer of the day to win shamble.

We had 3 birdies and 4 bogeys on the day.

Singles match tomorrow I have to give 4 shots.

4 birdies, 4 bogeys

Sometimes things come together. Won my match 4&3 and had to give 5 shots.
Putting - good
Chipping - really good

I actually finished bogey-bogey. Went for a par 5 in 2 and dumped it into the water. Wanted to break my personal best of 70 so I was glad that I went aggro. I did tie my personal low 9 holes of 34.

nice scott.

beautiful sunny day, but wind was 15-20 mph with higher gusts and temps in the mid 30s. a few holes were impossible to put a peg into the ground on the tee, had to stab a hole with a driver tool.

net +3 on the front, net -5 on the back. 11 fairways (2 of the misses were OB) and 5 greens. 8 pars, 33 putts, 3 one putt pars. yet again couldn't find a way to make a meaningful putt over 5 feet.

took me almost the entire front nine to get a feel for the wind and how hard the greens were (because they were mostly frozen). played the same course last weekend and the greens were very soft and receptive, today they were like concrete. iron shots into the wind were a minimum of two clubs more. at least the fairways were running out because the ground was actually hard, but that's also how i took my 2 OB drives because i'm not used to balls running out on those particular doglegs this time of year.

35-36-71 73.2/144. First round in 8 weeks or so, in a very strong, windy, Florida day. 13/14 fairways, 11/18 greens, 27 putts. 5 birdies, 2 bogeys, 1 double.

Fun to play so solidly after a long break.

Finally addressing the major issue with my swing, so very prepared for a scoring slump. Played the midweek members comp at my home course today plus walked a solo 9 at my old home course yesterday demo-ing improvements to swing with very mixed results.

Also decided to try a different shaft in my driver - 70g tensei x flex (I have been using a 56g kurokage s flex) and swapped my ap1’s for my housemates ap2’s. Mine are 1/4-1/2” over and playing project X 95 shafts and his are standard with heavier KBS shafts.

As expected with all the changes I was spraaaaying it, but when I did manage to hold a decent swing I hit the ball well.

Had 6 pars & 2 birdies but still shot 90 lol. Only hit I think 2 gir

Did a fitting with titleist yesterday and tested the MB’s and CB’s. I’ve never owned forged clubs and outside of demo days haven’t really hit them. Crazy the difference in feel/forgiveness/workability. Obv not quite good enough to go after dem sexy MB’s but my swing issues are the cause of my unreliable ball-striking, so it was as good a catalyst as any to finally pull my finger out and work on correcting my poor habits.

2 birdies, 2 doubles

First match of round-robin play in the club match play championship. We have groups of 6 and you play each player once. 18 points per match (one per hole) so you always play 18 and top 2 after the round-robin advance. Had to give 2 shots and won 11.5 to 6.5. If it was conventional match play I would have won 6 and 5.

Overall played fairly good, especially early. Opponent took about 8 holes to hit his first good shot, then he played good after that.

Much better round today - after work I grabbed a bucket of balls to work on my new swing, then went out to walk 18. Managed to shoot 82, without any doubles or worse* which I’ve never done before. Didn’t make any birdies but it was all pars and bogeys. Had two crazy saves on both 10 and 11, first for par and second for bogey. I’ll spare you the details but they were both very different but very sick. Felt like such a boss as I had a guy nearby see both holes in their entirety.

* caveat: I took one mulligan. I’d been waiting ages to play a wedge into the par 5 4th after waiting equally long for tee shot and lay-up. Mosquitos were absolutely feasting on me like nothing I’ve seen, and the couple on the green finally waved me up. In a rush and with at least 6 mozzies gnawing at me I left the club face behind me and sprayed it right. Instead of walking through to the next hole, I noticed the pair on the green not moving to their balls, with eyes on me still. So I grabbed another ball and treated this shot like a real one - actually took my time and blocked out the impending malaria. Still didn’t hit a great shot but found the putting surface and two-putted for par.

Well it was a nice run while it lasted.

40-46-86

2 birdies, 5 pars, 7 bogeys, 3 doubles and a triple

All three doubles and the triple were on the back nine. Comedy of errors. The triple was on a par 4 where I was 120y out for my 2nd. Ball was above my feet in the fairway on some soft turf. Went so deep on that one I still had 62y left for my next shot, which I of course bladed 30 yards over the green. If I didn't putt decently I really could have put up big numbers.

My two birdies were good for flight skins. One was on a 400y hole where I had 95y left into a 10-15 mph breeze, aka my only really good tee shot on the day. That one was also good for a giant skin so I walked away with $358.

walk away with $358? and i though i was happy to walk away with $15

we had three groups and counted the two best net low, each loser pays the winning team $5.

42-41 83 (net 66)

9 pars, 7 bogies, 2 doubles
8 fairways, 5 GIR (but 5 or 6 greens were just off and i putted)
2 balls OB and a 3 putt, also left a ball in a greenside trap for an extra stroke
28 putts total including 9 one putts
4 one putt pars, 4 one putt bogies, and a 1 putt double. left at least 3 putts inches short and in the jaws. missed 3 birdie putts within 10 feet but also made 3 or 4 putts over 15 feet including one over 25.

Par 3s: +2 (1 GIR, 7 putts)
Par 4s: +9 (1 GIR, 14 putts)
Par 5s: even (3 GIR, 7 putts)

we had three groups and played a best two net low game for $5 a man. our team ended up -17 to beat the other two groups by 1. our 19 HC making a par on the 1 HC hole for a double net eagle was the difference.

I suffered a high ankle sprain in September that wasn't properly diagnosed, and just played my first round since then: by the book 88. I'm a 7.2, so that's obviously not a good score, but I was happy to make a whole bunch of pars. Of course, when you should 88 with a bunch of pars that means there are a bunch of double boxes and more on the card.

Porter - where'd you play? you still out on the coast or have you made your way back to PDX?

we've been playing both Heron courses the past few weekends and they've been in surprisingly good shape. lots of bare patches in the fairways but they've finally blown the goose **** off the greens.

let me know if you're in town and up for a sunday morning round. our group usually has room.

Somehow managed an 85 with the AP2’s still in the bag today and only hitting 1/18 gir (made that one for bird though nbd. Ripped an 8ir from left rough from 150m to about 8 feet)

Ball striking with new swing steadily improving but missing left a lot. Easy fix so continue to practice!

35

2 birdies, 1 bogey

Emergency 9 this am before I leave for Hong Kong for a week and a half (not golfing there). Got out ahead of the person cutting the holes so I didn't have pins to shoot at for 7 holes. You can see them laying flat on the greens so you have a general idea. Was -2 going to the last which is a reachable par 5 and I sprayed the driver left into the trees/hazard and made bogey.

Tied my PB this morning with an 81, again with the AP2's in the bag and Tensei shaft on the M2. Almost made it through without a double but butchered the 13th.

1 birdie (got home in two on the par 5 6th for the first time, two-putted for my first birdie on that hole)
8 pars
8 bogeys
1 double

I putted like absolute horsesht, it was embarrassing. I missed countless par putts between 3-9 feet, and I stuck tee shots on two tough par 3's inside 6 feet and missed both. Lost confidence on short putts early in the round which just made it impossible to hole anything.

My handicap before today was 10.3, and with this 81 I *should* dip below 10.0 and into single digits for the first time ever! I started a little over three years ago with a GA handicap of 33.9, good for a playing handicap at my then-home course of 36, which it's now 12.

played 36 today..cold, windy tough conditions in New Jersey.. 88 first 18 with a group for money...84 next 18 with my friends both from the whites.

Starting to get really frustrated with my iron play.. I just don't know if I'll ever change my swing enough to be hitting 50%-75% GIR each round.

My drive is pretty insane right now. I was fitted at club champion for a full bag and have a whole new set and I'm really liking my driver right now. I set up with my stance a bit open and let it rip every time, let my hands lag a little and don't turn it over too much and put out a pretty consistant 260 carry, maybe 270. very straight, baby cut and I've battled a draw/pull for the last 6 years. It's also 50 degrees outside and the ball isn't going far at all, I honestly think I may be one of the longest drivers at my club this year and I'm only 170 lbs, 5'7.. Just loving my drive, always have tho..Have a lot of confidence with that club and I'll take driver out every hole if I can and try to thread some small fairways bc my 3w isn't great and I don't even carry a hybrid at the moment, 4i I'll start getting more used to bc it's new.

I would love some opinions on Iron play tho. I may start a thread soon with my swing but too lazy right now to record my swing.

Without going into too much detail into my swing has anyone has this problem.. My drive is great, I feel very confident in placing it where I want, full swing, and try to unleash and not hold anything back..

When I do that with my irons I spray it all over the place... how can I hit driver so well and my irons are naturally draw/pulls then right occasionally too.. It's so much harder to hit my irons straight than my driver...

obi it's hard to comment without a video but has anyone ever had this issue? really good driver and just super inconsistent iron play. I feel like the driver I have so much more room for error but I square it up so much better than any iron in my hand. I hit my 50 degree really well but that's about the only iron.
