Well this was a monumental disaster. Round 1 of club championship.

43-54-97

My worst round in 3 years. I just didn't have my iron swing all day. Hit 2 greens on the front and made 2 pars along with 7 bogeys.

Made bogeys on 10 and 11 then disaster. 12 is a tight par 4 and I toed a 4-iron into the trees. Had no backswing and advanced the ball 50 yards. Still not by the dogleg I have to pitch it 70 yards. In the rough I hit one high on the face into the bunker. Bunker shot comes out low and rolls 40 feet by. Then I 3-putt for an 8.

13 is a par 5. I snap hook one into the trees but it bounces out just short of fairway. I hit my second good and should have 160 out from the green just in left rough. Go up and can't find it. I do find a different ball but now I'm wondering if I hit the correct ball or not for my 2nd. It did sound and feel different than my normal gamer. I go back and look to see if I did hit the wrong ball but don't see it so I guess a lost ball. Hit 4th to 188. Hit 5th just over. Chip on and 2-putt for back to back 8's.

17 is a par 4. Hit a good tee shot and have 158y out. Proceed to chunk the 8 iron about 70 yards into the water. Drop and hit underneath the ball short and in the bunker. 5th goes to 10 feet. Miss that and card a 7.

18th dogleg right par 5. Hit it in fairway bunker. When hitting my 2nd I slip and fall away from ball as I hit it and it goes OB. Rake then drop (plugs in bunker). Blast out, then lay-up my 5th into another fairway bunker which is 85y out over water. Manage to her one out of there to 40 feet. Then I 3-putt for a closing 9.

Time to just forget about that round and shoot a 72 tomorrow.

15 people in gross division and I think I am DFL.

Slightly better today. Good news is that I didn't finish DFL, even though the guy in my group shaved a total of 7 strokes off his score (including 6 on the back). We called him on one of the two on the front, then he was playing so bad on the back we didn't even bother. With shaving that many off his score he shot 93, would have been triple digits if he didn't.

I had 2 doubles and a triple on the day, including a 4-putt double. I was 41 yards from the green on my drive and took a 6. Oh yeah, also started with a 3-putt par on the first hole.

Greens were running what I figured to be 12.5. They cut and double rolled them before play today. Was a ton of fun playing those greens. After the 4-putt I actually rolled it really well. Wish they could be like that every day.

Next tourney is at Innisbrook in 3 weeks. I need to get a lot of rounds in between now and then.

What do you mean by shaving?

He had more shots than he told us to put on his card.

That's so rough. On one hand the game and field should always be respected and protected - even if it means crushing a guy who is already getting beaten up by the course.

Then on the other hand it's a club championship and this is a guy you'll see around the club and you don't want a bad relationship with the guy.

But mostly - eff him for cheating. I think you should call him on each stroke he shaved regardless of his score. What's the difference between 98 and 93 when you're in the gross field; you played awful - suck it up. He's likely to have done it in the past and do it in the future; people should be aware so they can be on the lookout.

I let our head pro and our assistant pro know what happened. I said it doesn't matter now but for future reference it's something that they needed to be aware of.

I know one of the guys he played with on Saturday and he said that he knocked one shot off his score early in the round. He called him on it and he denied it. Then he went back through every shot with him and then he said "I forgot about that duff". He didn't try anything after that.

It's sad that you have to verify scores after every hole but I guess that's something I am going to have to do from now on, in every tournament that I play in, not just playing with him.

Ah right. That’s nasty.

I remember a couple years ago my ball and a particular gum tree were drawn to each other, so I ended up with an 8 on a par 5.
I thought I’d made a 7 because I miscounted how many times I had to hit my 3 wood - I went driver, 3w, 3w, 3w, 8ir, wedge, putt, putt but was so sure I’d only hit 3w twice.
I was so embarrassed when I eventually realised my mistake after a playing partner went through my shots.
The embarassment that came from doing it by accident was gnarly, I can’t imagine doing it on purpose and having to deal with being found out What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

33-37-70 on my par 72 74.4 course.

First time out in a few weeks, and parts of the course still had some snow on it. Hit a lot of solid shots, and a ton of solid putts. Some range work I've been doing has been paying off. Definitely should have been like a 68, but can't complain.

2 birdies, 1 double

Moved up to the white tees to gain some confidence. Also a new putter, stance, and thought process.

Good to actually play relatively decent again. Only had one questionable driver swing on the day. Otherwise I'd say it was going good. Drivers were:

#1 476 - Had 180 left
#3 319y - Was over the green on the drive. Can cut 30y off by going over the dogleg.
#6 346y - Had 64y left
#9 456y - Had 172y left
#11 350y - Had 64y left (but in the trees)
#13 478y - Had 168y left (this was the one actual drive I had some rollout)
#15 389y - Had 108y left
#18 498y - Had 240 left (in the trees)

i can't remember the last time i've had a 4-putt double before this past Sunday.

500 yd par 5, drive is dogleg right with water right. yank the drive way left, 200 yd second shot ends up in a fairway bunker, full PW third to within 15 feet for a birdie putt. it's a two tier green but the cup is cut between the tiers on a pretty severe side slope and my line is to run the ball ~12 feet uphill aiming ~5 feet left of the hole to let it die just past the crest of the hill so that it breaks right and trickles downhill towards the hole.

dropkick the first putt and the ball makes it halfway up the hill before breaking right and stopping 20 feet away. i'm left with a big uphill sweeping right to left breaker and the rest of the putts are what you might expect on really fast greens.

I 4-putt doubled the 18th last week Mental game was gooone and my swing thoughts were nasty. Never had a chance.

Today short game not amazing but played pretty solid. Broke my previous record and had 9 pars

2 triples
2 doubles
5 bogeys

9/14 fw inc all 4 with my 2-iron
7/18 greens
34 putts

Both doubles and both triples came on par 4’s where I drove it up the middle of the fairway. Two thin 5-irons on the two longest holes, a pulled 7-iron and bad push-fade 7-iron were the culprits

"+4".

Played 4 1/2 holes, made a couple pars, a couple bogeys and a double. No pins so I had to try and remember where the cups were. 45 degrees and a little drizzle, I'll take it.

1 birdie, 14 pars, 1 bogey, 2 doubles

Finally a decent round! Was one of the better driving rounds I have had in a long time. Couldon't make a birdie on a par 5 even though I was around the green all four times in two.

Playing at least 2 more times this coming week before I have a tourney Friday then a 2 round tournament at Innisbrook over the weekend.

Belleair Country Club

Interclub for the county. Belleair is a Donald Ross design and was originally opened in 1897. Typical Ross greens with runoff everywhere. The first chip I attempted I basically laid sod over the ball. After that I did chip and run with a hybrid with very mixed results.

For how short the course is a 132 slope is crazy.

2 birdies, 7 pars, 4 bogeys, 3 doubles, 1 triple

Not a good tourney today. Tripled the opening hole after topping one into the lake on the approach.

Here is what kinda got me mad. I get to the course and eat and go out to warm up 30 minutes before tee time. They come up and say we are running 12 minutes early. Well that cut my practice time in about half. I hit a total of 5 iron shots and some drivers. Totally not ready. No excuse for topping a ****ing ball though.

Driver was working today though. All of the par 5's were around 500 yards. Had 205 into the first one. Had 152 into the second. That one was a huge dogleg around a lake and I was able to cut a lot off of it. The last one I had an lol 130 left. Same thing, huge dogleg with a lake, and it was downwind.

Finished 9 of 12.

Playing Copperhead tomorrow for first of 2 round tourney. I think I can put up a really good number tomorrow. See what happens....

90

I suck. I really suck in wind.

20 mph with higher gusts. Never stood a chance. 11 shots back. At least I won a flight skin and a giant skin. Not sure how much yet.

not my score but by someone else.
last weekend a spry gentleman joined our sunday morning group
hank is the father of one of our usual players. his son is a 5 hc. it's not surprising where the son gets it from.
hank shot a 92. it's the first round in his last 25 that he didn't shoot his age. hank is 91. we typically play from the whites, which results in something around a 68.6/123 or 69.9/131. it's amazing how well you can score when you hit it low and straight, find the fairway, and have hands like Seve.

Played 18 in NJ today, high was 39 degrees but with the sun out and light wind it was honestly pretty comfortable. Unfortunately ground was like a rock and mostly couldn't get the tee in the ground. Ended up leaving the driver in the bag and just hit 5 iron off every tee. Was actually good practice, in fact I think I might want to use iron off the tee more often (usually hit driver every hole even the short par 4s).

At any rate was happy with my swing was hitting a nice draw most of the time and contact was solid. Ended up 45-44-89. Nice to get out in mid-Dec at least!

Equal lowest round (par 72) today.

43-40-83

Greens have been done recently so putting was bloody tough. I also putted very poorly which didn’t help.

9 gir (also new record)

2 birdies
6 pars
7 bogeys
3 doubles

3 3-putts including for eagle on the 1st from about 30 feet

My goals for 2018 were to make an eagle and to have 3+ birdies in a competition round and I should’ve locked away the second of those easily. Had a wedge or a putter for my 3rd shot on all 4 par 5’s and played them in +2. The 3-putt eagle and missing from 5 feet for birdie on the 6th were soul destroying. Played the really tough par 5 4th perfect until I left my wedge approach just short of the ridge at the front of the green, preventing any roll out to the flag and another 3 putt.

Both made birdies were on par 4’s - one from 2 feet after 2-iron/GW on 11 and the other 5 feet after 2-iron/9ir on 8.

Even par for four holes. 50 degree day in December, I'll take it! Apparently I play better when the course is covered in leaves, there are no pins and no work of any kind has been done for weeks. Got a chance to hit a handful of shots with the Mizuno CLK hybrids I picked up a few weeks back - nice clubs if a hair more flexy than I would have expected.

3 rounds this week on par 72 7450 yards 76.5/151 course down in Florida. 77/75/76.

Rating should legitimately be 79. Played solidly.
