40-44-84

2 birdies, 4 doubles

Was -1 through 3 holes then decided that I suck at golf. Came close to a hole in one today but left it a touch short.

Desperate times call for extreme measures, breaking a heel shafted model out of the closet, going to roll a few before tomorrow's round.
Center shafted Taylor Made Monza Corza FTW

Day 2 of two man event. Shot -5 on best ball 9, -1 on total aggregate 9. Finished 5th.

Shot 41 and 40 with a 9 I think. Putting went from Ebola level to just mediocre after a desperation switch to the claw mid round.

Played the Winter Park 9 hole course. This was the one they profiled on the Golf Channel some time back. Nice little track, greens are pretty sloped with some decent bunkering. I shot +2 (37) and I played HORRIBLY.

VERY short course.

1 - 241y par 4
2 - 146y par 3
3 - 430y par 5
4 - 495y par 5
5 - 354y par 4
6 - 262y par 4
7 - 179y par 3
8 - 145y par 3
9 - 228y par 4

So basically it's a par 31 or 32.

One really odd thing is you play around a cemetery. This was off of the 4th fairway.

I've heard good things; is it affordable? Was it busy?

I walked up without a tee time and got on no problem. Busy-ish. Play was pretty slow but that's gonna happen on a muni course. Cost was $14.

2 birdies, 6 bogeys

Played Reunion Watson which is one of the two for the Mid-Senior Amateur. The front nine is a touch tight in some places. The back 9 is fairly wide open. Playing it at likely 6700 yards means all of the fairway bunkers can be cleared in the 230-250 yard range. Very important that I need to have the driver working for this tourney as I can clear all of the trouble off of the tee.

Streamsong Red

36- +4 THRU 6 on the back when the rains hit and I called it a day.

3 birdies, 2 doubles

Really glad I decided to play it as there were a couple of tricky spots that I would not know about. One of the par 5's on the back I hit my second shot about 40 yards right of the green cause I thought it was over there.

I'm always a big fan of Coore/Crenshaw courses.

BTW I walked it and I was getting tired at the end, for sure hurt the score.

edit: Also, pebble is a top 3 course for me, and I've gotten to play some good ones. Would be a sick year to make it.
Never followed up on this. I think -1 got in, but course was not a good fit for me. I think it hosted some old school US Opens, and was just a really old school course. SOOO tight off the tees, with a lot of OB and hilariously narrow fairways. Was so tired from playing 36 holes 2 times in the previous 4 days and traveling across the country I was drawing dead. Shot a couple of rounds in the high 70s with like 5 doubles and a quintuple on a quirky water hole. Wasn't gonna be my day the way my body was feeling.

Played a full round for the first time since then yesterday (course was closed last week for a member guest). We played the gold tees at my course which are waaay easier than the blacks. 72.4/138 par 72 or something, but probably a bad rating (it's easier).

Shot 31-37-68.
Had an ace on the par 3 7th from 145 with a 51 degree. That netted me some cash from a $1000 reciprocal payout I had with a couple of playing partners. My second ace. Probably should have shot a 63 from those tees, but whatever. Was 6 under through 10. Lost focus.

Congrats on the ace!

39-40-79 on a 67.1/122. 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys.

Course was short - 6,000 from the tips and we played one set up - which is not to say it was easy. Tight with a variety of junk (marsh, trees, fescue) to capture your ball if you hit it off line. I didn't hit too many drivers. Small greens with a lot of slope. The wedges got a workout. Just enough wind to make hitting the greens hard. None of the par 3s played longer than 150 and I hit zero.

Highlight was driving the green on a par 4, first time I've done that in quite a while. Only a 279 yard hole and downwind. Fifteen feet up a steep slope to a tap in birdie.

Congrats on the ACE!!

73 today with 4 bogeys. Putted poorly, but the game is finally coming around.

Thanks.

Played again today from the tips at my course 74.4/141 par 72.

32-34-66 again.. 10/18 greens, 10/14 fairways, 23 putts.

Game is peaking hard.

Awesome hole in one!

38-40-78 for me today. 1 birdie, 2 doubles. Sounds OK but we played the ladies tees today. Still has a slope of 119 for the men. There are only a couple of holes that it makes much difference. My driver was good when I could actually pull it. Wedge play was about as bad as it's been in a while.

35-40-75. 2 birdies, no double bogeys.

A little disappointing to finish with bogeys on 14, 15, 17 and 18 and a missed birdie from 6 feet on 16. Hit one awful shot on each hole, recovered to give myself a chance at par and went 0/4.

First time playing my own ball by the actual rules (no mulligans, playing it down) after a ten year layoff.

42-45-87. Course was 69.4/130 and a par 71.

Took nine penalty strokes. I often, especially with the full swing off the tee, came up out of the shot and hit some low bullets... which would have been less of an issue had the course not been one of those places where most holes had a short forced carry over high-grassed wetlands in front of the tee.

I guess I could drive myself crazy over mechanics, but really it is a matter of my legs being too weak to support my bodyweight so my balance sucks and things often get out of kilter w/ the full swing. This will happen when you don't pick up a club for ten years, I guess.

Not bad, keep it up!

I was in your shoes a little over 3 years ago as well. I took about an 8 year layoff to pay for day care. It will come back to you, just takes some time.

Are you in a league or something? What's with these Tuesday night rounds?

I’m usually subbing in a league but if not it’s one evening I never schedule anything work-related. Now if I could just dependably get to the course with time to warm up ....

Yeah right never going to happen.

4 birdies, 2 bogeys and a double. Really drove it like crap, but still managed about 13 gir. Didn't hit many balls close.

39-36 - 75 on mens night (hole everything). Notable because my previous all-time best is 81, also at this same course. Needless to say I won all the prizes tonight playing as an 18 handicap (my average of mens night rounds this year).

Played 4 holes and lost 3 golf ball because they were plugged. Almost lost another in a bunker because it was massively plugged. Gave up and went to the range for a bit.

Tournaments the next 3 days.

Black Diamond Ranch - Quarry Course

36-36-72

4 birdies, 1 double, 2 bogeys, 11 pars

Best tournament round I have ever put together. Course is on the fairly open side and the driver was working today.

Ended sour by pulling a 50* about 80 feet right of target but still on the green, then 3-putted.

Nice round Scott.

No score for me tonight, played 7 holes and hit a bunch of extra shots (mostly 3 woods) as I was doing some equipment testing. Two bogeys and two birdies on the first ball.

Sometimes things are just weird. I picked up a 15* 917f2 3 wood. It came with what I figured would be (figuratively speaking) a throwaway shaft -- a Diamana Red 60 in R flex. I already had a Fujikura shaft on hand and the plan was to just compare the 917f2 head with the 915fD.

The 917f2 has been sitting on the couch for a couple days, and I kept picking it up for a half swing. Felt good, so I figured why not hit it as is a few times. Hit two tee balls on a par 5, both good shots. Hmm. Hit two more on the next hole, both in the middle of the fairway. Swapped in the Fuji - hit four balls, not so good. Put the Diamana into the 915fD and hit two more good ones, you could throw a blanket over the four I hit with that shaft.

I've never had much luck with high torque shafts, but this one definitely earned a more extensive workout. Looks like it's going to be in the bag for the weekend, will see how it goes.
