88 today. Still can't get the ball in play off the tee, way too many visits to the trees. It didn't help that every time I ended up in the trees I had to punch out sideways - or worse, try to punch out sideways left-handed.

Thinking positive, I put a 60 degree wedge in the bag and it really helped. Hopefully I can get in some practice with it and I'll get up and down more often when I short side myself.

Brag: Very strong 80 yesterday. Best all-around round in a few months.

Beat: Not in my usual game, since nearly everyone else was out of town. So I won a measly $5, and chipped a few tenths off my index.

Second time out yesterday and played the South Course at the The Reserve Vinyards and Golf Club just outside of Portland. They used to hold the Jeld-Wen Tradition here before it moved over to Crosswater in Bend.

Rather long par 3s and 114 bunkers on the course, and you were lucky to see the top of your ball if you didn't stay on the fairway.

The course ground me up and spat me out...shot a real 108, and that includes a birdie and two pars. Short game/sand shots and my putting were the greatest weaknesses.

Good times.

Different round of golf for me yesterday. Went to my club (Great Hills in Austin) around 4:00 and only played 7 holes. The cool part of it was I played with my soon to be 5-year old. Have no idea what I shot (I'm a 10 handicap), but nothing cooler than giving him his ball and 7 iron in the fairway and watch him hit it all the way to the green on a few holes (by all the way to the green, I mean he started about 150 out and took about 20 swings--he hit a few about 20-25 yards). Best time I've had on the course in a while.

Playing a scramble in our golf leage at work this afternoon. Only 9 holes. Shot 40 last week, par 37 (3 par 5's)
Rating - 71/126

Played the course I grew up on today with my brother.

Middle Tees, 69.1/113, Par 72, 6250Y

I know this place like the back of my hand. My swing is starting to repeat, the claw putting grip is starting to feel really comfortable, I'm really starting to roll the ball well, chipping is coming around, and I go out in...

47!

ARRGH. We make the turn, I start settling down, and shoot 39 on the back.

86 is just not a good score there for me, though. I was really pushing too hard early. I'm beginning to put some decent nines together, but I need to pace myself for a full 18.

It's coming, more updates tomorrow and Wednesday.

- Jay

+8 over 8 holes. That's really good for me, as I'm hoping to become a consistent bogey golfer this year. 3 pars, one triple (without an OB - just terrible shots), one double. One of the pars was on the toughest hole on the course. I parred it the last time I played, too.

Heh. I'm back to keeping score in relation to "bogey golf." It was a nice moment for me back in the day when it was easier to relate to the actual par.

Shot a 94 today at Eagle Ridge in Raleigh, NC...had 1 birdie but really worked on making my drives straiter and making better contact...a few bad holes led to my demise

Played 18 holes in 2:40 yesterday.

Shot an 82 on an easy par 70 with some pretty beat up greens.

Today I will play my first non-gambling round of golf (playing with sister-in-law's boyfriend), it will be interesting to see what I shoot.

3 hours. 18 hole championship course par 71. 6700 yards, 71 course rating, 117 slope. I shot an 80 (+9) and almost had my first eagle (two times).

I've never broke into the 70's.... ever. I'm gettin close though.

This post isn't about my round.

Yesterday I played in a hit-n-giggle, AKA a scramble (at Whirlwind on the Indian rez for those of you familiar with the course here in Phoenix). Anyway, afterwards they drew a raffle ticket, the "winner" got a shot from 160 yards for a million bucks.

Now I guess it's nice to have a freeroll and all, but I've knocked it in from 160+ about three times in the tens of thousands of shots I've hit from that distance. Seems pointless. Plus, most of the crowd went to watch the guy hit, so that burned like 15 minutes.

Also, we came in third and all won Nike carry bags which had a retail price tag on them of $110. This morning I gave it to a friend who has a crappy bag. Was this too unselfish? I didn't see the point in charging a friend for something I got for free, and all it was gonna do is take up space in my storage anyway.

tuq, good call on giving him the bag. I assume you didn't need any money and didn't need the bag.

I am in Santa Fe and played Black Mesa, which is/was in the top 40 of "Places You Can Play". Really great design, very different for someone like me from the east coast. Very difficult. 6700 from blue tees (7000 ft. elevation), slope 136 I believe. Shot 43-43. I am a 17 so that's a good round.

That's a situation where you can't go wrong either way. Giving him to him is obviously a nice and generous move. Charging him something (although probably way less than the value, like $50) would also be perfectly fair and reasonable.

The only time I ever went out to see one of these was when one of my playing partners got the chance. They chose the person who was closest to the hole. Of course it was a 175 yard par 3 that he plays to like a 30+ and had hit driver on that he hit really thin and had line drived bounced a hundred times in the rough before the hole and then rolled onto the green to about 6 feet.

When it came time for the shot he had no balls left in his bag (I had to give him one) he also had sat on his glasses and couldn't see. They had to have an off duty cop drive up and video the shot. Half of the tournament was watching the shot. We could not stop laughing at how big of a waste of time it was.

If your not going to use it, it's a nice gesture.

Played the North Course at Angus Glen yesterday - home of this year's Canadian Open.

I'm a 22 handicap - aim to break 100 at an easy course.

Shot a 93. 7 pars, 5 lost balls / penalties.

First time I've swung a club this year...

So I should stop playing - doubt I can improve on this one...

beat: I broke my back skiing in January (L2 compression)

Had the body cast off for 2 months, no brace for 1, and doing lots of PT, so I should be able to get out this weekend or next. I can't wait.

Shot 48 for a quick 9, puke, but when you don't practice what do you expect? Not a bad start, though considering a 6 & an 8 to start, both par 4s. I'm hooking the ball like hell.
Going out to Reno in 2 weeks for some very nice golfing, so I need to get some range balls in. I also have 2 lessons out at LPGA International in Daytona that I need to get in.

I shot 44 on 9 today. I hit it OB on a par 5, re-teed and made 6, missed 3 birdies from <15 ft. Finished my round triple bogey, birdie, triple bogey.

Brag: downwind par 5, 2nd shot from 240 yds put my 5 iron to 8 ft.

Beat: missed the putt

How the heck do you play the buried lie in the bunker? I had a downhill lie and the ball was literally below the level of the sand. WTF? led to triple bogey

The same course that I shot 100 last week, I shot 129 today.

It never went right. Last week, 90% of my drives were on the green. This week 10%, and NONE over 130 yards. Not one good drive at all. I couldn't make a single good shot with anything below the 8. It was like 4 hours of misery. Not ever hitting one good shot to get a hole going. It sucks on a par 4 when your best shot is the 4th to get on the green.

Perhaps this is a character builing day, lol.

I think you are supposed to close your clubface and hit down on the ball.
Open the club face and line the ball up towards the heel of your wedge, then hit it really hard, it comes out every time if executed.
