Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

What happens when you fold like a chair?

Are you nervous? Too excited? Too afraid to play aggressively (smart aggressive not 2009 Isildur aggressive)? Too cautious?

Do you have trouble starting rounds and getting in a groove or trouble finishing rounds that start good? Have you tried any of the golf mental game books or videos?

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I never played golf tournaments till last year and have only done a few. Basically I make a big number on a hole then all of a sudden I am lost mentally. One tournament I shanked like 8 wedges. Another hit like 5 ob and another chunked like 10 wedges in a single nine. I never do any of that in casual rounds, at least not more than a few bad shots, and the bad ones normally are a 230 yard toed drive, miss green pin high, slightly poor chipping.

Never read any books but would love a few recommendations on the mental part.

I basically compare it to me playing poker in late 2007 and being awful late in tournaments and never staying focused. Then I started grinding 180 mans learning how to win so then when I got to $50 buy in final tables I was able to make the proper plays.

I have no delusions of becoming great, but I do want to be able to contend in city and county events. So basically +1 or +2 handicap that travels and shows up in tournament.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I’m a hack - down to a 8 handicap from 12 but feel like I’m a giant punter; I get a gnarly slice off the tee with driver at times and a double cross off the tee with less than Driver - especially in club events or at important times of rounds. I have a hard time finishing rounds; had it only 3 over or less through 12 holes this year a ton and rarely broke 80.

Point is I’ve heard that “golf is not a game of perfect” to be a goof mental game book.

40-41-81
1 birdie, 2 doubles

Very uninspiring. It's hard to make birdies when you are hitting short irons to 40 feet.

Re: What\'d You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

44-45-89

Crappy day, kinda cold, mist/drizzle. Two-way miss with the driver, 2 lost balls off the tee (one snap hook, one massive slice). Actually hit my irons well. Hoping a fitting for a new driver over the off-season might help, my current one feels really whippy and I'm having a tough time controlling it.

This is the time of year I get jealous of people who live in year-round golf climates, I'm usually going stir crazy by February.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

43-44-87
1 birdie, 5 doubles

Day 1 of the club championship. Course was playing REALLY tough. They cut and double rolled the greens. Rough was up a touch more than normal, but not bad. I think the greens were playing a full 2 feet faster than when I played yesterday. If I were to guess I would say around a 12.5.

I actually thought I played OK. I drove the ball great all day, mostly 3 woods. Only 2 really bad swings all day that let to a couple of the doubles. I made the effort to go after some birdie putts, but that sometimes left me with 5 footers coming back, which I made probably 2/3 of them.

I think the hardest part of the day was stopping the ball on the green when chipping. I had very few chips that stopped near the hole.

I am T10 out of 24 (really 20 as 4 people no showed/didn't turn in a card). Leader is at 75 so winning is obviously out the window. My goal coming in was top 10 and I really shouldn't have a problem doing that IMO. Playing the easier course tomorrow and I can feel a really low score coming.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Yeah that is a big jump in speed, especially if they firmed them up. So easy to roll chips 10 feet by hitting the shot you thought was fine. Make a few more birdies and lose the doubles and you should be able to get top 5. gl

Was like 25-30 degrees almost all day. Itching to golf badly so going to take the 37-43 degrees tomorrow and play. Ohio is awesome

Oh wow. good times on 6-9 there. Too bad you had to ruin the no par round by actually getting one on 17

I know, I slid the 10 footer for birdie just by the hole. If I realized I had no pars maybe I would have intentionally missed that one

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Walked 18, was actually pretty pleasant weather, low 40's no wind really. Felt like most of the rust got knocked away Sunday and felt mostly in control of my swing. Still trying to dial in my cold weather distances

Strange round though, felt like I hit the ball decent but 2nd shots in to par 5s were awful so no really good birdie looks, scrambling was A+ but I missed in good spots minus 1 hole. Was 6/7 and the longest par putt of the 6 was 6 feet. Didn't make any putts though, the 1 birdie was like 8 feet. I don't think I deserved to shoot any lower, probably deserved 75 or 76.

36 - 36 = 72 (6481 70.5/116)

29 putts no 3 putts
8/14 FIR
11/18 GIR
1 birdie 1 bogey

6 months late response! lol. Anywhere from 240-390. 270ish in "normal" conditions I'd say. Long iron game = weakness, short iron (7 or less) game = strength

Yeah, my home course I play almost exclusively is 74.7/144 so it's not easy imo. Par 3s are 200/155/185/240. The only short one is often played in a strong right to left wind and I hit a pretty big hook and there's a lake right, so it's not a real god setup for me. The 185 is a postage stamp ish green.

If you have hybrids then no big deal. 8 irons would be a big deal. No 3 putts makes me think small greens
2/3 par 5s are very tough holes (672 yards and the "best rated 11th hole in America", Golf Digest circa. 2000....lol, one is the easiest hole on the course.

Takeway is need to get a little bit longer if I can so I have shorter irons into greens, and need to hit long irons better.

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

GC Am Tour Event - 6,600y 73.0/138

Was losing the swing a bit towards the end and barely hanging on. Somehow of the 8 people in my flight that was tied for 1st. Other player in my twosome was the other. On the 1st playoff hole opponent hits a hybrid to 20 feet. I was in the bunker with an 8 iron and pulled it into the drink and that pretty much ended it.

Double on 10 was a bladed 58* from 85y WAAAAY over the green. Double on 12 was a tee shot in the water followed by a flyer lie 25 yards over the green. Hit a great pitch under a tree and through the rough to save double. Double on 16 was another tee shot in the water leaving me 260y to a par 4 that was all carry, had to layup.

Course was tough. Plenty of room off the tee but if you missed you were in the water. Never played the course before and it def cost me a few shots. I had 10 GIR and had a 2-putt par on every one of them. 2nd place and closest to the pin prizes made the day though.

Palmer Flight (4.0-7.9 handicap). If you are in that flight you play against everyone else with no handicap. Courses generally play 6700-7k yards. The next flight down (Hogan, 8.0-11.9) you can sometimes see them scoring better as they play the course about 300-400 yards shorter. What REALLY SUCKS is the Championship, Palmer and Hogan divisions play for the same closest to the pin, even though the Hogan plays it closer.

I did win the Closest to the Pin yesterday at 5'5"..... and missed the putt.

Flights and info are here: http://gcamtour.com/

Re: What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

Absurd wind today that was constantly changing speed ever 15 seconds. Was 1-4 club wind and pulling a club was basically dumb luck as to what the wind was doing by the time you swung. A bit bitter about 3 putting 18 as I didn't have one till then

41 - 42 = 83 (6481, 70.5/116)
28 putts
4/14 FIR
4/18 GIR

2 birdies 3 doubles.
