Congrats old school. Thanks for sharing the trip.

42-41-83

2 doubles and a ton of good approaches I couldn't convert to birdies

Was 5 over over the last 4 hole stretch. Made a few bad club selections on approach shots and cost me dearly but my scores are steadily getting lower and lower.

35-41-76. 1 birdie, no double bogeys.

Strange round, didn't do anything great but kept it in play, hit a decent number of greens and chipped and putted ok.

45-39 84 - 8/14 fwy, 11 greens and 38 putts (weird day)

Was +9 through 6 holes and was steaming - couldn't get off the tee and had an awful 3 putt from like 12 feet. Played the last 12 +3 with a 3-putt bogie and 4-putt double bogie - hit 11/12 greens in that stretch.

Our Saturday morning group is 20-24 guys most weeks - blind two man best ball - my partner and I had the tidy net 27 to win the back nine and were one shot behind the overall winners.

Weird, weird day.

New job means leisure (read: golf) time has taken a serious down turn. Managed to sneak in a quick 9-holes this evening before dark, played two balls.

Ball 1:

45
1 birdie
2 pars
3 bogeys
2 doubles
1 triple
14 putts

The birdie was a long, long putt on a hole I've never birdied. Would've been 35-40 feet and never looked like missing

Ball 2:

47
1 birdie
1 par
3 bogeys
3 doubles
1 triple
15 putts

Birdie was a long par 5. Missed fw right but smoked a perfect hybrid down to 95m then hit a PW slightly long which rested on the edge of the bunker behind the green. Had an awkward stance but drained the putt.

Played the RAC Club in Epsom, England - lovely course and lunch if you ever get a chance to play.

Shot a distinctly average 92 - am an amatuer golfer trying to improve. Solid off the tee but way to many 3 putts still.

Can't make any putts!!!! Played one of those courses where every hole had a subtle break towards the last few rolls. I found something with my driver over the last 6 holes or so, feel good about that. Straight and piped.

40-42-82. No birdies, 2 double bogeys.

Score more 'approximate' than usual. Focus definitely lacking and game was not sharp.

Dormie Club - West End, NC

38-43-81 (par 71)

1 birdie, 8 pars, 8 bogeys, 1 triple

Played the tips at 6,883y which seemed way longer, guess cause it was a par 71. Coore/Crenshaw design and the it was a very good track. They call it a poor man's #2 and I can see that comparison. Blown out bunkers and waste areas abound.

This course had some nasty length par 4's:

421, 397, 312, 434, 430, 488, 421, 492, 301, 379, 420

There was also a 242y par 3 which I killed a 3 wood to 12 feet. Best shot of the day.

One of the par 5's was 653y. Hit a good drive, hit 3 wood to 135y out. The second shot was a carry of 200y to reach the other side of a hazard. This is now the longest hole I have ever played. BTW missed a 10 footer for birdie.

Good thing the driver was on today (except for the triple hole).

Haven't had a chance to play a C/C course but heard nothing but good things. I enjoy their style compared to over watered green courses.

Seven days and six rounds of golf and summer cottage life in different parts of the country. Tough weather in Finland lots of times, but damn these mid-summer days are the nuts. Light around the clock. Worst round was 90 and best 80. Driving is okay or bad, had some awful drives on the score of 80 but they had lucky bounces. Beat: one dude made a hole-in-one, we were 15 people and he did have an "insurance" up to 550euros from a web-site, but did not know it was valid so no free drinks at the club.

Ugh. Didn't play well...greens were tough! Had a 4-putt and a few 3-putts.

10 pars, 7 bogeys 1 double

36 putts, 7/14 fairways, 11/18 greens

Devil's Ridge in Holly Springs, NC

Didn't make a putt but didn't really do anything bad either.

Played Sleepy Hollow. Felt like I hit the ball better than the stats look, course management was solid minus being in the back bunker long on 9 which led to a double. The rest of the time I missed in decent places and kept it under the hole. The rain took all the fire out of the greens though. The kid I was playing with was above the hole on 9 and his putt only rolled 20 feet past the pin instead of off the green and he had a 6 footer above the hole on 18 that only rolled 8 feet past.

37 - 40 =77
31 putts with no 3 putts. (minor miracle at this course.)
5/14 FIR
7/18 GIR

1 eagle 1 double.

Good thing I putted well or this could have been very ugly.

38 - 43 - 81. Tougher home course, weekly $5 tourney. Little wind this time so that did help. One shot better than hcp so maybe could be near the top, maybe even win a 10$ voucher lol. 15 best qualify for the finale and a chance for a $1000 voucher so a bit better chance at that now.

Lost track of how many putts inside 10 feet, just awful putting. Actually hit the ball off the tee well and almost always means I score well but not so much. Tough track, Grey Hawk and played really really long today. Had a lovely 6 penalty strokes. The only thing that was slightly not awful was playing 1 over for last 5.

48 - 43 = 91 (89 ESC)
34 putts with 2 3 putts
9/13 FIR
6/18 GIR
2 triples 2 doubles

44-42-86 - Pine Needles in Southern Pines, NC

7 pars, 8 bogeys, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 6/18 GIR 10/14 FIR, 36 putts

An old Donald Ross design that has hosted a few US Women's Opens. Played the tips of 7,014y and a par 71. Course played way longer. I was getting all of 1 yard of roll on my drives. For those that do not know Ross greens tend to pitch to the back and roll off on all sides into collection areas. I could not make a putt for ****! Totally lost in reading the greens. Driving was good.

Lowlight of the day was hitting it into the greenside bunker in two on the 4th. Feeling the sand it looks like it's a bit crusty, no problem. First swing the crust gives way to the softest sand ever and my club damn near stops and I hit it all of 5 feet. Second swing goes about 10 feet. 3rd swing I finally get on the green and end up with a triple.

Also, with the greens super fast and undulating, the 50 yards around the green were watered hard and you would get no roll, so you had to hit the green and hope it stayed on. Tough.

That was my experience also. Played with a couple locals and they were much better at reading the greens than I was. You going to play across the street too or is that going to have to wait for another trip?

It is a links style course sort of but has a ton of water. The fairways had no roll today which didn't help. Holes that are Driver/PW or 9i were Driver 4H today. Water is in play on like 10 holes, more if you chunk a driver 150 yards. OB on almost on every hole at least a little and a few has OB one side Water the other.

Here is an example, #1 handicap hole is 578 yards. There is water all down the left side like sawgrass 18th. Forced carry is only like 165 but if you pull your drive more than 5 or 10 yards the forced carry is like 280 and if you really pull it you have zero chance. The right side has a creek the entire way. Then the water crosses over about 50 yards in front of green and if you lay up you can still have water on both sides and if you pull the approach to the green it is also in the water.

I played pretty terrible but this course has my number. Even the one time I shot 79 from a shorter box I still lost 3 balls.
