Played the Colorado 4-ball over the last 3 days at Commonground. Team score was 71-70-66, which wasn't even good enough to finish in the top half of the field and was 16 shots off the lead. One team put up a 60 and another one had a 61 and its not like its an easy golf course. That's just crazy for a 2 man best ball, golf is so competitive these days....

On my own ball I had 75-78-68. Today's round was one of the best I have played. Commonground was the companion course for stroke play in the 2012 US Am. I looked up some of the scores from that I noticed Spieth shot 69 when he played it, so as far as I'm concerned I can beat Spieth

Wow those are some crazy scores, never would think 71-70-66 would finish in the bottom half.

45 (par 37). No birdies, 2 double bogeys.

It took 7 holes to find any semblance of a swing. Putting was meh. For once the sand game was on point, got up and down once and had reasonable putts the other two times.

Couldn't make a putt today. Driving wasn't actually all that bad, like 6 of them were within 2 paces of fairway. Did have a few awful ones off the toe though. Handicap is about to skyrocket though since I am losing a 71 and 72 in my next 3 rounds.

39 - 38 = 77
32 putts no 3 putts
3/14 FIR
9/18 GIR

1 birdie no doubles

Course was a big crowded so the round took like 4 hours but was enjoyable, played with some solid old dudes. Didn't get to spend 30 min working on bunker play like I was hoping though. 2 more days to figure out my game b4 tournament Saturday

Sun back out today so 18 more in a skins game with a mate (plus an extra 4, with a twist)

47-45-92 (-1 to my HC)

8/14 fw
3/18 gir
34 putts

4 pars
8 bogeys
6 doubles

Played yesterday and today with the same golf ball - 36 consecutive holes without losing a ball is some achievement for me!

Started off with two really bad 3-putts before getting my sht together. Still very windy but managed to hit some very good shots. Highlights being 7ir approaches on 4 and 12 that felt REALLY good.

My hcap is 21 at my home course (17.5, course rating 136) and lately I've not been taking advantage of the holes that still give me two shots. Today I made par on index 1, just missed a birdie putt on index 2 for a tap-in par and then tapped in for bogey on index 3. This type of effort makes a massive difference to my stableford scores, which is the predominant format we play here. Very happy to finally take advantage to the tune of 5 extra points today.

Also managed to win a total of 3 skins once the dust settled - I 3-putted the 18th for bogey which cost me the last two skins but it was nice to finally take some money off this guy! Even if I had to give it back 45 mins later...

...So with a little light left before sunset and an appetite for more golf, we decided to play 1-4 using a format we've tried on a single hole once before.
Each hole, we took turns choosing a club for that hole. Whatever club chosen would be the only club available to use throughout the entire hole. The only exceptions being putter (high risk of breaking) and any club we don't both have - for example I have a 52* and he doesn't, and he has a 3ir which I don't.

Hole 1: 384m par 4. Index 4.

Club: 5ir

I messed up my tee shot, but recovered with a great second shot. Third shot not so great and I got stuck in the green side bunker. Managed to 1-putt for an 8 but no good against Nicks 6.

Hole 2: 347m dogleg left par 4. Index 8.

Club: driver

Fk'd the only shot I couldn't afford to fk - my tee shot. Never recovered and 2-putted to a 7. No good vs Nicks 5.

Hole 3: 152m par 3. Index 16

Club: 3 wood.

I hit a beautiful tee shot low and straight. Took a hard kick on the bank before the green and held up just short. Hit the flag stick flush for my second shot, tapped in for par. All with a 3 wood. Skin for me!

Hole 4: 538m par 5. Index 2.

Club: 60* wedge.

We both fell short of the ladies tee and I ended up being a full shot behind after a perfect blade sent Nicks third shot 120m down the fairway. My <100m game is far better than his, so when he put his 5th in the water and I had 72m to go, I felt like a favourite. Until I went flag hunting and left it short, and watched my now 39-hole-old ball roll back into the water. Finished with an 11, Nick a 10.

I'm starting to get jealous of the people who play all the time, especially during the week. Don't you people have homes?

Working from home has it's perks. Also helps when I can bring the clubs on the road.

And this is a poker forum, what makes you think we have "real" jobs?

42-47-89. 2 birdies, 3 double bogeys, 1 triple bogey.

What an awful round. I could not hit the ball. Just totally lost all concept of what a golf swing should feel like. Hit 3 greens in regulation, one of which was a short par 5. Chipping and putting was inconsistent.

Made a complete fool of myself in a tournament
Spoiler:
45 - 51 = 96
9 penalty strokes and 4 balls having to go out mostly sideways or dumb failed hero
29 putts with one 3 putt
3/14 FIR(one from a tree shot bouncing sideways into fairway)
2/18 GIR 8 or which I couldn't even hit or try to hit due to penalty or punchout
Didn't NC as tempting as it was.

Ick, handicaps involved?

42 today for me

I actually hit the ball good, just 2 bad swings all day led to 2 doubles. Highlight of the day was the 370y par 4 6th. Wind was right to left and hurting a bit. Simply torched a drive that went dead straight then floated left at the end when the wind grabbed it. Had 60y to the pin.

Oh yeah, also put my drive in the greenside bunker on the 327y par 4 3rd. Was playing dead downwind at about 15 mph. Was kinds fun driving up to that one and hearing the compliments from the group on the next tee.

Playing Orange County National Crooked Cat Monday then a FSGA tournament at TPC Tampa Bay Tuesday. You know when you are playing in Florida when the tournament has 96 entrants and a grand total of 6 are entered in the < 50 yo age group.

Scratch tournament which is what makes it so bad. That said I wouldn't call it a strong event. No handicap requirements, $50 entry fee and I wasn't the only person over 90 I think. I think 74 was leading with 4/10 groups done.

Stoked to have found this golf section, played AJGA when I was younger and am trying to get back into the game and play at a relatively competitive level. Just joined my old Country Club and played my first round. Par 72 40-39 -79. Def a solid score for my current game(super rusty) hope to be posting in the mid to low 70s with in a month or two.

Will try to post somewhat freq in here over summer.

GL guys, hit'em well!

Boulder Creek in Vegas....putt well, approach shots were damn good, up and down from the sand twice. Even par after 8 before a double bogey on 9. Two birdies. Closed with 3 straight "good" bogeys. 33 putts.

38-41-79

Pro tip: If you have to tee it up with your back to a 400 pound bear 30 feet away, don't make direct eye contact with him before you start your preshot routine. Also try not to do it when you're playing as a single and nobody is watching your back.

First round of the year at the home course. Picked up Stenson's Garsen putter grip. Going low this year.
