Down in Sydney for a few days, caught up with a mate over 18 holes (27 if you count playing the back nine twice) at a local par 3 course. Course is exactly 1000m in length and all holes range between 42-88m.

Shot 31-31-62 for a +8 which I'm fairly happy with.

Guy I play with doesn't like the S word. He calls it a snap slice.

44-41 85 today (71.4/132) - 8/14 fairways, 6/18 gir, 34 putts (missed 4 quite makeable birdie putts) and 4 penalty shots - 1 each on holes 3-6.

First was a downhill lob wedge shot and flew it to the back of the green and it took a big hop into a hazard (unplayable). Next tee shot was a lazy slice. Then a pulled tee ball into a lake on 5. Pulled iron into the same lake on the par 3 6th. Played those 4 holes +7 and then played one ball the last 12 holes. Funny game. Found a groove with the driver holes 8-18 I was 5/5 with the driver after starting 0/2.

played squamish bc golf recently........ 39 on the front semi blow up on the back for a 46.

a few comments/questions,

if you know squamish course - north of vancouver on way to whistler - how can #1 and #4 both be into strong headwinds? one goes east, one west and there are completely parallel, not side-by-side though.... makes no sense and happens almost every time. swirling wind?

heard a golf commentator say this and had been thinking about it for awhile. we non-elite players play far far higher % of shots from 5 yards to 30 yards off green... pro's hit 12-13 GIR and probably miss 2 or 3 by very little and the rest by 5-10 yards. so they are almost never facing those shots.

i had those shots on 8 or 9 holes and i thought i hit the ball quite well, at least for me.

A couple of rounds where it now was windy, and had to wait a bit or a lot. ****in freezing. Also played like ****, apparently can´t chip and irons bad too. In the 95 range if someone but a gun to my head and had to finish all holes. Fresh air and socializing the positives. Turn weather, turn. And maybe hit the range too, I guess.

Played a practice round hitting a bunch of extra shots inside 50 yards. Was still able to walk 18 with the extra shots alone in under 3 hours so that was nice.

38-43-81 - Practice round for my member/member. Didn't do anything spectacular just OK everywhere. 1 birdie, 1 double and all the rest pars and bogeys.

lol I suck... Played a course in Sydney today where I used to work a few years back. Lovely course, but there's lots of ways to take penalties and I managed to find all of them - some, multiple times on the same hole.

Carded 11's on 1 & 10. Only managed 3 pars and a birdie. 34 putts total and f knows how many penalty strokes in my 107...

Went out to play 1&2 afterwards in the fading light, just for a little chance at redemption and fk me dead I hit the ball as well as I'm capable of. Tap in bogeys on both holes!

39-45 84 Friday - 8/14 fairways, 10/18 greens and 33 putts. A triple and 2 doubles on the back was my undoing.

Gearing up for 36 today - money game at the club and then twilight on my own and quick ideally

2 man scramble, carded a 72. 3 birdies, 3 bogeys. Short game needs work.

Third time out this year. Played one round in February. One two weekends ago. And 9 holes today. Lol New England.

Shot 40 on a 35/3300/118 course. 1 GIR. 15 putts. My short game is not this good. Every drive was smashed 275-285 straight as an arrow.

Let's work on those irons.

you know you've had a ****ty round when you go into your pocket coming off 18 to put away your ball-mark repair tool, and realize this is the first time you've handled it since you stuck into your pocket heading up to the first tee.

i can totally relate to this, but i make an effort to repair other ball marks on the green throughout the round to make me feel just a little bit better about not having to use it on my own pitch marks.

43-40 83 today in the money game. Was low net (71 tough day for the high handicappers) in the B division. 10/14 fairways 7/18 gir and 32 putts. Got it up and down on 13, 14 and 15 to keep the round together as the ball striking wasn't crisp. Played the entire round with one ball - which is miraculous with my game at my club.

No twilight round. Played a few extra holes and was hungry and tired. Morning round tomorrow and then 4 day golf weekend will come to a close.

Well we **** the bed on day one of the member/member today. I think my partner put 5-6 balls in the trees or OB off the tee leaving me going back to the cart and grabbing a hybrid for safety.

36 in 1 net ball of 2 shamble. 45 (40.5 net) in alternate shot. We are in second to last place in our flight, somewhere around 10 shots out of the lead. Tomorrow is best ball 1 low net of 2.

Perfect as to what defined our day was the last hole. 340y par 4 and I drive it 30 yards short of the hole in basically bare baked ground. Partner chunks it. I have a pitch and run from 25y out and I manage to shank it (didn't know that was possible on a pitch and run) into the bunker. Partner hits on and we 2-putt for double.

I hit the ball so so so bad. Even sky balled a drive so bad no one could figure out where it went then 12 seconds later it comes down like 180 yards away.
The 3 holes that I normally play -1 or even at worst I was 4 over. Greens were plinko. I have decided the +1 inch driver experiment is done. Chopping 2 inches off. Spent all day in the trees.

43 - 38 = 81
2 doubles 2 birdies.
30 putts with one 3 putt
4/14 FIR
6/18 GIR

Only positive was the round took under 4 hours as a 4 ball.

Day 2 of the member/member. Partner shot 80, team had a 67 net. Not last in our group either day but we were 7 shots back of second to last when coupled with yesterday. People we played with today shot 61 net. An 11 handicap shot 74.

68 (-3) net for a 17 HC

what a strange round

doubled the par 4 first after being in the fairway 160 out off the tee
make a 45' par save on 2 after yanking my drive on top of a hill
up and down par on the par 3 3rd.
beautiful drive on 4 leaving 100 yards out and proceed to lay the sod over my next two shots (the second of the two ending up in a trap), two putt for a double
par 4 5th yank my drive left, hit 185 yard approach to greenside bunker, sink the 15' putt for a par
par 3 6th, up & down par save from deep greenside bunker
par 5 7th, popped up the drive, block a 3 wood onto the hillside rough, hack twice to get back to fairway, two putt double
par 4 8th, 1 handicap hole, smoke a drive leaving 155 out into the wind and proceed to pure an 8 iron and get to watch the ball roll into the hole for an eagle.
par 4 9th, pipe another drive leaving 135 out and approach shot takes a funny bounce on the green and ends up in the pond, bogey

hit five of the seven fairways on the front and had 1 bogey, 3 doubles and an eagle on those holes.

the rain and wind picked up on the back and it was a series of popped up drives, snap hooked hybrids, and great putting to save bogey on several holes. to finish the day i was 115 yards out in two on the par 5 18th and i had another approach take a funny bounce on the green and it ended up in the same pond i was in on the 9th.

putting was absolutely amazing, enough for my partner to comment on it. even the long putts i missed scared the cup.

Day 2 of 2-man scramble. We shot 69, 4 birdies, 1 bogey. Ball striking not as good as yesterday but not bad. Chipping notably better and I finally got the putter figured out the last six holes.

thanks....only my second one and the other was also a hole out on a par 4 (but only from 120 or so). i've had some longish putts on par 5s for eagle but haven't been able to seal the deal yet.

Lost a couple yards chopping the driver down but only missed the center off the face once and the misses were only face to path issues

lol I had one of those two weeks ago! although, I did use it on the 18th for the first time that round.
