I shot 76(+5) with one birdie on a par-5. Course 70.2/114.

Hit 8/13 fairways. Only 7 GIR. 30 putts(one 3-jack).

Hi all,

This has been posted in the thread do you use an online scorecard keeper?, but I feel deserves being mentioned in this thread as well. There is a pretty awesome website, http://oobgolf.com/, which allows for free handicap tracking, stat tracking, groups, course and equipment reviews, etc. etc. etc. Tons of features, absolutely free, pretty easy layout to maneuver, and overall a great tool for you guys to use.

I've created a group called "twoplustwo golf". As of now it requires admin approval for new members, so just use your 2+2 handles and make it easy on me haha. I will try and make it open access though. It will take you a little while to enter in your personal info, course info, and scores, but trust me it's worth it for anyone between scratch and 30+ hdcp (that would be me haha).

P.S. If this is spam I'm sorry, I'm not affiliated with the website in any way and simply found it to be of great value to me as a relatively new player of this wonderful game.

TPC Canyon, blue tees

85

Extremely disappointing number even after a month and a half layoff. I plan on posting more in this thread as a motivator to practice and get back to something resembling competence.

Played Torrey Pines South yesterday while visiting my brother in San Diego. I was fully prepared for the course to kick my ass, and was therefore pretty darn happy with the 87 that I shot (I am an 11 handicap).

Looking back on my round, I realized I had to get pretty lucky to shoot an 87. It would be VERY easy to lose a ball in the rough, and even though I was in it plenty of times I didn’t lose a single ball. The greens were very fast, much faster than I am used to, but I only three jacked once. I have always been a pretty good lag putter, and even with shorter putts I like them to die into the cup rather than jam it in the back, and that style seemed to work on these greens. I also got pretty lucky with a couple of up and downs that really could have gone horribly but turned out ok. It’s just so hard to judge how much strength you need to use on chips/pitches when your ball is in rough like that. Even where it was long it was just SO dense that control could have been a major issue.

I took a lot of pics, I'll post them soon.

44 for nine (par 37). If not for unusually good putting (12 putts), it would have been gruesome. I've never had a round quite like this - tee shots were good, anything off the ground SUCKED.

I am entering my scores into that oobgolf thing listed earlier and actually keeping a handicap. Through 3 rounds, my stroke average is an 85.3 and my handicap is a 7. I would say that is about right.

In my defense, all 3 rounds have been played in good old Texas wind, which makes my short, narrow, tiny greened home course pretty difficult. I made three (3) triple bogeys on my way to an 86. One of them was a ******ed duff into an "out of play" water hazard/3putt, another was a bad luck punchout/******ed chip/3putt, and the other was 2 perfect shots that looked like hole in ones that ended up in the water on a par 3 playing 109 yards.

Only on this forum, which is overrepresented by scratch or close to scratch golfers, do you need to "defend" a 7 handicap.

If you saw my swing you would wonder how in the hell I can be a 6.7 index.

I shot 79 today with four ground ball 3-woods off the tee. One rolled about 150 yards and I hit 4-iron the remaining 205 onto the green to make par. He he. Guess I should have just hit the 4-iron off the tee, but the thing is that I have this 3-wood in my bag and blah blah blah.

Also, someone was eating sunflower seeds while playing and left the shells or whatever the hell you call them all over the greens and tees. Very annoying.

shot a very wierd 86. 3 over through 8, got on in regulation on 9 and then FOUR-PUTTED. front side was only par 35, so a 40. Then shot 46 on the back ugh...

Bright note of the day: Chipped in for birdie from about 40 feet on 5.

Dark note of the day: Drove into the trees on 10, then hit a punch shot that was about 6 inches too high, and caught the last branch on the tree i was punching under. 3rd shot hits a tree about 80 yards away and the ball disappears. I turn to my playing partner, half-jokingly say "that balls gonna hit me", then the ball lands two feet away, bounces and hits me in the leg.

I did check, it was my ball.

I then proceeded to hit my 4th at that tree again, so lying 5 in the fairway. 5th shot misses the green, chip up and one putt. So all-in-all, made 7 on a 512 yard par 5 after hitting two trees three times and hitting myself.

after 3 weeks of continued improvement, i had the worst 9 holes ever on the first night of a modified stableford league yesterday. 1 fairway, and no gir. the league kept the scorecards, but by my recounts i shot a 61 on a 36. several times in the trees, punch outs hit trees to come back. a tree was blocking my backswing, and on the first try i hit it and whiffed (+stroke). but enough whining. just horrible. going to work hard at the range today.

on the plus side, i putted A LOT better, and fairly happy with my short and bunker play, much better this time. started reading the short game bible and took some very helpful pointers. i wish i tried different clubs for short chips onto the green from the fringe (like a 7) just so i could make a shorter swing than the sw.

This a great thread. For some reason I love reading about golf rounds. So here is my first one of the season.

The course is called Osprey Ridge:
http://www.ospreyridge.ns.ca/layout.htm

Ever since last September I have been working on a new swing. I am 32 and have been golfing since I was 15. I shoot the same now as I did in my second year. If a break 110 I had a good day. ( I only play maybe 5-6 times a year).

As I found out I was taking the club up too steep around my ears and swinging with my arms. So I lowered the plane and am trying to us more core muscles in my swing. Also using the "proper grip" instead of what I had been doing!?

After hitting the indoor driving range about 6-7 times this winter and the outdoor range before the round I was ready.

First hole par 4 with alot of room on the right. ----->I hit it in the woods. Recovered for a 6.

Ended up 56 on the front with two 9's and four lost balls.

On the 10th and 11th holes I made a couple nice shots and started getting some confidence with my swing and it actually started to feel natural.

I ended the last 5 holes 4 over with par on 16 and bogeys on 14,15,17 and 18.

I was really excited with my 47 on the back nine with the last five holes being the best five holes I've played in a long time.

Also last September I switched to a cross handed putting stroke and practice by using two thick books just off the toe and heel of the putter and practice not hitting the books with the putting stroke. I felt alot more comfortable on the greens.

CLIFFS NOTES-- Got excited about shooting a 47 back nine with a new swing and putting grip.

Just got back from a 4-day stay in the Las Vegas area. I haven't played any golf since September of last year, and it REALLY showed. Not that I am any great shakes (career 12-15 hdcp), but I was brutal out there. I never do well on desert courses anyway, but I went from embarrassing to simply bad by the weeks end.

We played Tuscany in Henderson on Monday. I warmed up nicely, my flat swing was producing a little draw on the practice tee, and I ended up shooting 54-48=102. About 5 holes into the round, after losing 4 tee shots (Literally lost. Couldn't find them.), one of the guys who used to be a teaching pro told me I was moving around so much on my takeaway, he was surprised I hit the ball at all. He gave me a couple of things to focus on, and I was hitting it better after that, but was really uncomfortable. The afternoon round was a scramble, I contributed a few shots and a bunch of putts, so it wasn't a total waste.

Tuesday we played Boulder Creek. Nice facility, the breakfast sammich was yummy. We played Desert Hawk for the first 9, and the wind was just starting to pick up when we teed off. bythe time we were done with 9, it was howling - the ranger told us gusts were 50 MPH. The 2nd nine on Coyote Run was the unbearable. My ears were ringing from the wind, and my driver shaft was humming from vibration. I shot 45-52, hitting the ball much better (even making a few birdies), but any ball with any type of spin on it was taken so far offline, it was usually unfindable in the arroyo. 12 of the 12 of us decided to not play the afternoon round, the wind was so bad. We went back to our hosts house in Henderson and had a barbeque and spent the evening at the Green Valley casino.

Wednesday, we played at our hosts (the former teaching pro) home course, Dragon Ridge. Easily the nicest of the 3 we'd played so far, but the wind was still howling when we teed off. However, this time it dies down to a light breeze by the 5th hole, so it was a most pleasant day. I shot 48-48, made a few birdies, got a few greenies, saw some outrageously huge homes. During the 2nd round (a scramble again), I hit some really good drives, continued my good putting, and our 4-some won with a -12. We went to Wynns to gamble that night.

Sorry if this turned out to be more of a trip report than a score posting, but there it is.

You shoot high 90s rounds with 3 birdies? You must go on serious golf tilt.

You have no idea.

I'm actually decent from 150-in, but getting to 150 is the issue. When I keep my drives in the fairway ( or at least in play), there's a good chance I'll get no higher than bogie. It's been this way since I started playing 30 years ago.

I pretty much don't get birdies and I shoot in the mid to low 80s almost every round. I have the most boring looking scorecards. Its like "did you get par or bogie on that one?" I could probably be a scratch golfer if I could learn to hit a green. My typical round is pars on the 5's and bogies on many of the 3/4's. I can putt too.

You sure you're not talking about me? I couldn't describe myself anymore accurately. If I had to guess I'd say I average less than .5 birdies per round, less than 1 double, and the pars and bogies are pretty evenly split, maybe slightly more bogies on average.

I haven't shot a 90 or higher in 5 years but I rarely break 80. Boooooooring.
