It's a really dumb design, and I think they are begging to have the green tore up. Doesn't make a lot of sense to have that type of layout on a public course.
Agree. Guys will do stupid things whenever they get the opportunity.

My current club has two greens on 18 which are in play. If your ball is on the "other" green it is played as wrong green and you drop off the green and proceed. The front green is basically an island so there's no option to putt from one to the other. I've had several guests over the years put it on the wrong green and want to wedge it over. Smh.

can't remember if it was this season or last season but one of the major tours had a tournament where a guy chipped from the green, and it was perfectly legal. Was a huge green with multiple tiers so it made sense

I've seen it done at #18 on Bay Hill before when the pin is back right on Sunday and someone hits it in the front left.

The key is you can't chip from a green that isn't for the hole you are playing.

There's no rules against using whatever club you choose on the green for the hole you're on. You can't even putt from a different green though.

pretty sure players have done flop shots from their own proper green.

i think the 6th hole at riviera in LA - LA Open - has a sand trap in the middle of the green.

6th at riviera.......... if the link doesn't work, riviera is off sunset boulevard west of - i think - the 405. and the 6th is at the south - southwest? - end of riviera..... feel stupid as i've been to LA Open a few times and i've been too lazy to walk down there and watch that green. not a fan of watching putting and that green is off by itself to some degree.

37 (par 35). No birdies, no double bogeys.

Bogeys on the two par 5s, including a two putt birdie-for-six on one of them. Stupid lost balls.

for anyone in vancouver, bc.

played northview mid-day today for $70... special rate cause of construction at the course, but it didn't affect play at all - except temporary par 3 is better than the par 3 it replaces. northview has that par 3 between 7th and 8th that they don't use.

also, no one out there at all........... didn't see one other player near us all round long and we played at noon

interested in the mexico talk... somewhere i may snowbird.

Back at my home course today off a new low of 26hc.

50-48-98

5 pars (new record here) including 12+13 which I'd never made par on before, now only the 1st is left. 12 I put my 3rd just off the back leaving a downhill, heavy breaking effort that I read and executed perfect. Good tee shot left side on 13, leaving 200m to back pin. Creamed my 3iron to the front of the green, then sunk a tough second putt after under doing my birdie effort.

Chipped in from ~40m out for par on 15, then came within an inch of chipping in again on 16.

Lots of terrible swings but some epic short game work (33 putts) left me playing right to my hc, which at the time was the best (net) score for C-grade in the clubhouse. Last game there for about a month as I'm off on holidays, so pretty happy!

Nice skillz... breaking 100 on a regular basis is when you start to be able to actually play the game. You can meet up and enjoy a round with most people. Its a solid achievement.

Ty! Handicap lowering is my primary motivation for playing the game and doing so is going to come with a lot of learning curves and challenges.

Also, when counting putts do you count only those played from the actual green or all instances when the putter is used? I've been counting the latter - today two of my 33 putts were from the fringe or first cut of rough, which is about standard for a round.

42-41-83, 1 birdie. Fairly wide open course though so room to spray and pray.

skillz, count the ones from the green only for putting stats. you should be zero putting a reasonable amount

This.... I've been very hard on myself but I need to keep this in mind. Yeah, I'd love to shoot in the 80's, but being in the 90's puts you in a spot that let's you play with anyone and is actually better than average for an amateur.

I'm only a few strokes better than the OP but have the same motivations of handicap reduction.

I'm playing an interesting course tomorrow. Eagle Chase in Marshville NC. I have no idea what to expect but I love that feeling of optimism you get leading up to a round and hope I can maintain it through each hole regardless of the handful of bad swings I know I will take.

Emergency 9 at lunch. Didn't look at the clock when I started but I think I finished in 40 minutes.

Driver was good. The lone fairway I missed when hitting it I was about 2 steps off. Chipping was off the charts today including:

1st: Had a bunker between me and the green so I hit a flop. Hit the stick (almost jarring it) and rolled back uphill 8 feet away.

2nd: Chipped it good but took a direct left kick, 3 feet away, would have been better if the bounce was true.

5th: Meh chip, but made the 15 footer to save par.

7th: Had an impossible pitch and left it on the fringe. Chipped it in for par from there though.

8th: Chipped to 6 inches

So yeah, short game was good. Didn't test the new putter too much because of it.

What a difference from front to back today....

47-53 100
1 birdie
4 pars
3 bogeys
5 double
5 triple or above

I was 12 over after 11 and then fell apart after realizing I left my gap wedge on number 8. I end up getting it back, but I just seem to have lost all focus at that point. 3 3 puts from 12 on. Some skulled shots that cost me penalty strokes and throw in some horrible bounces and the round was destroyed.

As for the course, Eagle Chase in Marshville NC is absolutely beautiful. Great scenery, extremely challenging with lots of elevation changes, and the greens are firm, fast and true. I highly recommend it. The best course for the price point in the Charlotte area.

I forgot to add that I almost made my first eagle. Par 5, got it to about 15 yards in two, pitch one off the pin for a tap in birdie.

Very frustrating because I am so close to putting it all together, but just can't quite find the consistency to complete a full round with my A game.

41 +6. No doubles. Only 1 GIR, on the 9th hole of course. Was pushing my irons until I started driving into the trees. Bunker game was rusty too.

49-40-89. Just stuck on the 89 train of late. This 18 played a bit tougher, about 2 strokes, 8 slope, & a few hundred yards more difficult than my last two 89s. Burned lots of strokes on the first 10 holes with tops, missed sand shots, 3 putts, all that garbage. Shot a double bogey on 10 then got my **** together, hitting the next 6 GIR and shooting those 6 holes even. Went back to bogeys on the last two once it entered my head I could shoot a personal best 38 over 9 holes.

Uh oh.

Didn't use the app today but:

42-46-88

Pretty much a disaster. I didn't have my driver all day. Took a total of 6 penalty shots including hitting 5 from the tee on a par 3 (took a 7). Lots of doubles. Actually hit 9 greens though.

Afternoon round I didn't keep track because I hit multiple tee shots on the first few holes fighting a really, really bad swing. Was able to correct it starting on the 5th and actually went +3 over the last 14. I would make an educated guess that I shot 80 or so.

New driver shaft waiting for me when I got home. Hitting the range in the am then taking a week off.

Played 9 at an executive course with my 8-year old son...behind a 5-some in 3 carts. The longest hole is 260 and these mid-50s dude rode. I hoofed it (LDO) and my son carried his bag for about 5 holes, while I carried his the rest of the way. It was 90° and he played soccer for 3 hours prior to golfing.

We had ice cream before picking his 2 sisters up from gymnastics camp. Good time.

I tinkered around with a left-hand low putting grip...kinda liked it. Couldn't get my fingers to rest or interlock comfortably, though.

Played Old Sycamore in Charlotte today. Another day where I go out strong and can't close. some of it might be the heat of Summer and me getting tired.

45 53 98

1 birdie
3 Pars
5 Bogey
6 Double
3 > double

The front 9 was the best golf I have played in about 15 years. Every iron was crisp and right at the flag. I had a fade on my drives which got worse as the round progressed but I just went with it and worked most of my drives from the right side of the box and aimed up the left side so I ended up hitting more fairways, although my distance was less than normal. I need to work this out on the range.

Very happy with my play overall and just wish I could avoid getting sloppy on the back.

37-42-79. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys. 6/13 fairways, 10/18 greens, 35 putts.

Putting numbers are deceptive, I only had one 3 putt and had one of my best lag putting days ever. Ball striking was pretty poor and I kept leaving myself 30, 40, 50 foot first putts.

36 (par 37). 3 birdies, no double bogeys.

Playing a match play event this weekend, supposed to play 27 today but got rained out after 9. Putter hot, ball striking mostly okay, 2 wayward tee balls cost me bogeys.
