I have perfected a fascinating new shot - I hit a driver, the ball goes nearly straight up in the air and comes down ~ 100 yards from the tee (or less). I can do this with the ball teed down (and I have no idiot marks on the crown of my driver), so it's not like I'm going under the ball.
I was doing that for a few days. I had let the club face creep open at address. I got it back to square and all better now. YMMV.

I figure it has to be crazy open at impact to produce that result. Given how messed up my swing is, not surprising.

96 for 31 points.

Considering my last two rounds I'm pretty pleased with that. My swing fell apart now and again and I couldn't putt for toffee but I didn't taken more then a seven and I hit several good shots.

2 Pars, 9 Bogeys, 3 Doubles, 4 Worse.
4/12 FIR, 1 GIR, 41 Putts (5 three putts)

i randomly had this problem for a couple weeks last year, i just hit 2 hybrid of the tee during that period.

If it's as high as you say, no chance it's center of the face. It's probably hitting very high on the face but not directly on the crown. Next time you go out use a dry-erase marker on the ball to see where contact is.

43-47=90 on maybe the worst course I've ever played. Driving was good -- I hit or was just off most fairways -- but my irons and chipping were really inconsistent and you couldn't hope to make a putt on these greens. A lot of them had grass on only about half the surface.

I woke up shortly after that. I think I need to get out and play. Meant to this week but got sick again. I have the WOAT throat/lungs. Will try to get out this weekend.

67-68-68 on 70.5/131 6450y par 72

Try 'teeing it forward' it's fun making birdies. Went bogey free my first two rounds this week until 16 & 17. Then I made bogey on 16 & 17 again in my third round, ugh.

I'm such a short hitter that if I did that I couldn't reach quite a few of the par 4s in two shots. I do that when desperate or when the situation calls for it, but b/c of lack of distance it's not a regular thing.

I keep meaning to buy impact tape, since I'm lazy and I have dry erase markers I think I'll try this instead, thanks.

Played much better today. 38-39-77 at home. 1 birdie, 1 double bogey. 9/13 fairways (with only one moonball, on that one I even got ~ 200 yards, too bad it was also a huge hook and I had to punch out of the woods), 8/18 greens. Main difference was I had a bunch of successful up and downs - 1 putts today instead of the 3 putts I had yesterday.

Played both courses at Oxmoor Valley in Birmingham on the Robert Trent Trail.

Ridge course is AWESOME. Valley course was pretty good. I wish we had played Valley first because then I wouldn't have such a feeling of being underwhelmed but both tracks had challenging holes, breath-taking views, and were in great condition.

They also have an 18-hole par 3 course that has virtually zero flat tee shots.

$100 all-day play rate too.

53-55=108 with two 12s on my card.

1 par, 11 bogeys, 1 double, 5 worse.
6/14 FIRs, 1 GIR, 32 putts (1 three putt)

The worse:
2nd - 457yd pard 5 - Hit the fairway but blocked by trees, laid up leaving a 6 iron to the green. Hit a slight pull to the greenside bunker. This hole has a long, narrow green with a bunker on either side. The pin was between the 2 bunkers. With hindsight I should've played away from the hole & taken the 2 or 3 putt but the thought never crossed my mind. Instead I left it in the bunker 3 times trying to do the impossible before dumping it in the opposite bunker. 2 shots later I'm back in the same bunker. Pitch out and 2 putt for 12.
6th - 426yd par 4 - 3 putt from no more than 4 foot for a 7.
11th - 457yd par 5 - Same hole as the 2nd (9 hole course). 2nd shot ended up unplayable so had to take a drop, pulled 4th to just short of aforementioned bunker. Almost hit a miracle pitch onto the green but it just caught the bunker. Repeat above scenario almost verbatim, 1 putt for another 12.
13th - 350yd par 4 - Drive ended up in the trees, took 2 shots to get it back in the fairway. 4th was a horrid hook that ended up on the 14th tee. A pretty good pitch left me a two putt for 7.
16th - 392yd par 4 - Nasty slice drive sailed OB, made bogey with 2nd ball but unfortunately a real life 7.

This was my second full round with my new grip. In the past I've always gripped the club how it felt comfortable; interlocking but very open. As you can imagine, my standard shot was a weak slice or a push if I was lucky. I could probably count on one hand the number of hooks/pulls I'd had in the last 5 years. So now I've started to grip how I should (I think!) & also changed to overlapping. I'm hitting so much straighter now & my misses are not always to the right, in fact I probably hit more pulls than anything (and they were only slight pulls).

I'm determined to break 90 this year, my previous best round is 95. Will keep this thread updated.

Played an easy course yesterday
47-51-98

35 putts
3/14 FIR
6/18 GIR
3 penalty strokes
3 sand strokes
6 pars
5 bogeys
4 doubles
2 quads
1 quint

Made some putts for a change. Made a 14' and 8' for par. Also made a 9' putt.
Had back-to-back birdie putts of 8 then 10 feet that both missed by inches. First one I left 3 inches short and the second lipped out.

Chipped kinda crummy. Putted well.

Tried a new strong grip on my driver and began mashing the ball - though was hitting some straight-pulls so I found myself in unfamiliar territory all day (normally I hit high fades that get chewed up by wind and I end up right of the fairways).

Mashed a few 280+ with some wind help. Haven't driven the ball this well in probably 2 years. Suffice to say I like this new strong grip. I felt like I was getting down through the ball and my hands were really solid at contact. It reminded me more of my baseball swing in which I generate power with my top hand in a similar position.

First drive of the day I picked an angle to cut off a reachable par 4 and my angle was not good enough because I murdered the ball and it hit a fence 285 yards away and I saw it bounce up and back. This was oob so nice penalty. Had I aimed at the green I would have driven it if not ended up behind it - but safe.

On a 546 yard par 5, with some wind help, I was 30 yards short and in the fairway after 2. I hit a nice drive ~280, maybe more, then murdered my 3 hybrid high and straight - so that must have gone about 235. Felt damn good. I've never in my life got it out to 515 in 2 shots. Maybe I found my power back. Pitched to 10' and lipped out the putt.

I feel like one of these days I might put everything together and shoot mid-80s or something. I've had separate rounds in which each facet was working. My putting is the best it's ever been and it looks like I may have rediscovered the driver. If I can clean up my short game and hit good approach shots there's no reason I should be making any worse than bogey on most holes.

I also seem to play my best golf in June and July when it gets really hot so I will try to play a lot in the next 2 months.

83 today on easy sloped course that people generally have tons of difficulty with. furry creek on the way to whistler BC. very nice course but kinda tricked up alot.

anyway, going to track this from now on.

fairways: 7 of 12. 58%. at least one god awful drive that found the fairway.

greens: 9 of 18. pretty good.

putts: 33 (is this a good number or not).....14 front (40) and 19 back (43), although some really really long putts on the back

may start tracking up and down. but would i include pretty straight-forward shots from the fringe. i'm thinking no.

wondering also if i should add another category and add simple fringe shots to my putts (perhaps also add them to my GIR for another category)......... or maybe it's simpler this way.

think i'm going to start tracking shots i would absolutely love to do over. 4 swings not including putts.

uggg, may have lost my 6 iron from my new set.......... is 6 iron the standard demo club for irons? i think maybe so.

basically very good score, but need to improve all areas.

i started out +1 over 5 holes, and then i bought a coffee at the snack bar. +12 over last 13, including triple 2 holes after buying coffee. may have learnt my lesson.

Turnberry CC Par 72
Played from the whites
37-42 with an 8 on 17. Was out for a bachelor party and it was a 7.5hr round. Bunch of newbies to the game as we let every group pass us.

Happy with my first round in the 70s. The white tees make the course so short at 6485 yards.

52-47-99 (par 72)
2 pars, 7 bogies, 7 doubles, 2 triples
6/14 fairways, 2 GIR, 9 GIR+1, 35 putts, 4 sand shots, 6 penalty strokes

First time under 100 at this particular course (I've played maybe 3 or 4 rounds there). Usually it gives me quite a bit of trouble, but I think they've shortened the course a bit from the whites and haven't grown the rough out quite as much.

As I was driving my cart from my car to the first tee, I realized I left my hat in the car. I thought about driving back to get it, but decided not to. I hit my first shot and it feels pretty good--but I can't see it all (it was fairly bright, but I wasn't going right into the sun or anything). Hit another one, watch that trickle into the right rough. Can't find the first ball. 3rd hole--same thing, can't find the ball. Ended up with a triple that should've been a bogey. Hole #4--hit one that looks like it's headed down the left, but I can't really see it. Probably ended up in the water. I ended up with one stretch where I had four straight holes with penalty strokes--those bad drives, plus a skulled wedge into the water on a par-3, plus a hooked 5-wood either through, over, or under a picket fence into a backyard (technically OB, but f*** it, I took a drop because screw those guys for putting houses next to golf courses anyway). It was very frustrating because I felt like I was hitting it solid--but if it's not straight, I guess it can't be that solid, now can it?

After losing a couple balls I figured I should just take an easier swing and try to keep it in play. The first hole where I had the mentality I hit a low draw right down the center of the fairway. Next few drives were good, but snuck off a little to the left into fairway bunkers. Then I started the back nine with 3 straight fairways. Then I hit a huge slice out of nowhere on #13--and of course, when I reteed I split the middle of the fairway. Ended up hitting 5/7 fairways on the back nine.

Iron play was pretty poor. Maybe one good 7-iron approach and one good 6-iron and everything else was crap. Wedges were okay, short game was fairly solid. 25 putts doesn't sound great, but the average first putt was over 26 feet, which is way more than normal (the greens are pretty big, so most of the time I was hitting them from farther away and not having a ton of short chips or bunker shots onto the green).

All in all, not bad for first round in about a month. Felt good to keep the driver in play on the back nine. I was slightly frustrated because I was hitting some draws and some fades, but I wasn't missing very much either way and the ball wasn't moving very much in either direction. And I figure it's better to miss between ten yards right and ten yards left of the target than it is to miss it between ten yards right and fifty yards right of the target.

Played Pebble Beach on Sunday. Probably do a picture TR in the near future for golf-course-porn purposes. My goal was to break 90, and couldn't pull it off: 92. Way too many doubles, plus a triple. Par on 18, though.

Played a 70.1/123 par 70, shot a 90 (48/42), walking. Hit 6 drivers OB/that I gave up on looking so I played my provisional. My short game was spot on.

I will try and get someone to post my swing but everything off the tee is a draw/hook/duckhook, My irons are typically a slight draw. Any suggestions to correct the madness off the tee?

55 from the yellows on a par 36 iirc. Easily (sadly) my best round to date. Hit everything pretty well except for irons which I hit god awful. Only 2 penalty strokes, though. Had a bogey, bogey, par, blah double stretch that felt damn good.

Without a 9 on the par 5 2nd and an 8 on the par 4 9th I think I woulda hit my goal of 50.

Next time.

beat- missed a 2.5 foot putt on the easiest hole (3) for my only bogey.
Variance- putted for birdie on every hole in a pretty solid two club wind.

feeling great. hit within myself all day long.
