I should not give advice, but I just had a playing lesson and I was playing the ball too far up in my stance with my 3 wood. I kept topping it and when I would hit it good it was a bad slice. I had it up as if it were my driver, he had me playing it 1 ball up from center and now I'm hitting it 220-230 down the middle.

No score, wasn't paying enough attention. Played 2 balls since I had the course to myself again. Next time I'll probably keep both scores, but that probably won't be for a few days since I have some scramble shots to practice tomorrow.

Consecutive days streak approaching ridiculous.

was 9 over through 14 at the University of Michigan course. Greens were rolling faster than I have seen them in a while. Played twilight and got stuck behind a slow group and had to have carts in by 9. Really only thing makes this course hard is crazy slope on greens and deep rough. I hit it 12 feet for birdie on 8 a par 3 above the hole and toed a putt I thought was good speed and ended up 15 feet by. My friend rolled a putt up the hill to the hole and it rolled back at him so not sure the fairness of that hole location. Still love the track though.

Had a fine afternoon at the course today. I shot 68 and then made a double-eagle during an extra nine. I sort of fanned my drive a bit right off the tee on a shortish (504y) par 5 and hit a 3 iron that covered the flag the whole way from 225. The sort of shot that'll keep me coming back for sure!

New personal record today, 83 strokes, 3 better than my previous record.

Played very well on back nine, shooting +4 with a double bogey on the 10. hole.

Was aiming for 100 as not played course before and I'm not a very good player.
After 5 holes my projected score was 131... I think I went 10 8 10 at one point, was crazy. Didn't even lose my head, just mi**** shot after shot. Think I shot 56 front night and then 48 back nine which was much better. Holes 11-16 I managed to play in +1, 4 pars and a bogey. Played the 4 par 3s in +1 total, pretty crazy round.

Bad ball striking, okay short game, good putting. Only one 3-putt in 27 holes. One par-3 I had a 75+ footer for birdie and left it 27 feet short. Then I sank the 27-footer to save par. And I had quite a few 20-30 footers that were near misses. Might've been a good day had I not hooked about half my drives into the trees.

Damn I've been dying to get out and play but it's been pouring here for like 2 weeks. It's kept highs out of triple digits which is nice but I'm pretty sure there are puddles all over the courses.

Speaking of which, if I do get out and play on a course with puddles, how do you play a ball that settles in a puddle that is not a normal water hazard? Do you play it as a water hazard (or hit it out if you can - penalty-free), or do you get some sort of legal non-penalized drop?

you can move it back behind the puddle with no penalty afaik, i believe such puddles are referred to as casual water

Man, I haven't posted in here in a long long time. I've been playing pretty regularly recently and this week I actually decided to legit work on my golf game. If anyone remembers my awful swing vids from two summers ago where everyone was all "What do you mean 'keep it around par?' It looks like you're a 15 handicap!", it's been the same awful over the top casting bad swing for the last two years now. I've struggled to break 80 due to this amazingly horrendous high-right nonsense off the tee (although I shot a 79 a few weeks ago with two triple bogeys). I wouldn't play full rounds because I would get frustrated and fear hitting tee shots because it's downright embarassing. I could honestly say that I would have been better off just standing on my front leg and taking a swing at it off the tee.

Anyway, I had something click when thinking about the mechanics of my swing and I dont know what it looks like (I'll get vid this weekend for some help on here), but I went out and shot 38 for 9 holes at OSU Scarlet on the front nine and putted like absolute ass. I stuck a few shots within 10 feet from like 150 and I was belting my driver straight down the middle most holes. I can't wait to get out there tomorrow.

love the summer. played 18 after work at 6. shot 83 for my 16th straight round 83 and under. Played better than that, no putts went in, and hit the wrong club into the green like 6 or 7 times. I'm pretty happy with that.

43-43-86. No birdies, 1 double bogey. Yeah, that's right. 5 pars, 12 bogeys and a double. Yeesh. From the white tees even. 8/13 fairways, 9/18 greens, 40 putts.

My round today:

1: 437 yard par 4. 90 degree dogleg left, hit drive down left, got fortunate it went down the hill and into a playable hazard about 100 out. Ball well above feet, pwedge to 25 feet, easy 2 putt par.
2: 451 yard par 4. Crushed driver to 184. 4 iron left it out to the right, into bunker. Bunker shot easy as pie to 3 feet, made for par.
3: 215 par 3. 5 wood into some wind, hit nice but drifted left into bunker. Nice shot to 8 feet, but missed putt bogey.
4: 430 par 4. Driver down the middle to 165. 6 iron right at the pin but long. Real tough putt up a ridge, to 4 feet, made it center cut par.
5: 450 par 4. Driver hit far, but right under tree. Weird lie go me and punch to front of the green ended up being a layup to 50 yards. Pitch was hit perfect, but no spin, rolled off the back, almost made 15 footer, tap in bogey.
6: 672 par 5. Crushed driver. Good 3 wood low on the fact to 190. 4 iron hit right at the pin, about 14 feet. Putt did hard 180 degree lipout. Par.
7: 150 par 3. Playing 139, hit 8 iron a little short to about 12 feet. Made nice putt.
8: 372 par 4. Nice drive down the left into light rough, 110 left. Gap wedge lands pin high goes 20 feet over. Need to clean this club? No spin again. Almost made putt, tap in par.
9: 389 par 4. Crushed drive to 110. Uphill so hit pitching wedge from light rough, kind of choked here and pulled it left of green. Chip was super fluffy and I thought i hit it perfect but too much spin and it just stuck in the fringe. Missed 12 footer for par, tap in bogey. 37.
10: 451 par 4. Crushed drive to 160, playing 175. Great 5 iron to 12 feet. meh putt, tap in par.
11: 540 par 5. Crushed FADE to fairway. Huge 5 wood over trees to like 65 yards. Really crappy steep wedge to right side of green like 35 feet. Hard breaking putt almost went in, tap in par.
12: 175 par 3. Playing 162. 6 iron I thought hit well, drifted into bunker. Nice bunker shot to 4 feet, but tough to read putt. Misread miss. Bogey.
13: 440 par 4. Perfect drive on hardest hole on course, to 180. Terrible duck hook 4 iron almost in a hazard. Impossible shot from 40 yards over bunker to pin on ridge with no green to work with. Full swing with gap wedge, straight up in the air, dropped 6 feet away, made it for par.
14: 398 par 4. Drive right down middle to 123. Wedge swung too hard into fringe, right behind stupid drain 15 feet away. Chipped it about 2 feet over drain to 13 feet. Made par putt.
15: 238 par 3. 3 wood to 40 feet. Horrible misread putt to 14 feet. Missed par putt. 3 putt bogey.
16: 315 par 4. Driver good but drifted a little left, dead in hazard behind tree. Chipped out in front of green. Pin position impossible, perfect chip to 10 feet, missed putt, bogey.
17: 540 par 5. Bad hooked drive, but playable. Mi**** 3 iron to 140. 8 iron right at pin, about 15 short. Terrible misread putt to 5 feet. Made it for par.
18: 343 par 4. Drive hit hard, but right into grass bunker down the left. Scared I was going to hit lip with 7 iron, got it over, but ball about 50 feet short on wrong level. Putt almost went in, tap in par. 39.

76. Very happy. Handicap down from 4.1 to 3.6. I'm worried now I'll have to play the championship flight in my city tournament in a couple of months.

Good players: What do you do get over the mental block of playing well. When I get like +1 thru 8 or +2 thru 13, I start to get really mental about everything and start to kind of play tentatively. I'm trying to just convince myself it's no fluke, I am that good, get over it and just play. But it's hard.

Played better than this. Ball striking was above average, got some really lousy breaks. Um, after I got warmed up anyway. Did make a putter change and it was a little better but the stroke and feel are still a little off.

7 (4, 410) Good drive in fairway to 155. 6i pulled just slightly to left fringe. Putter from fringe runs out a bit to 5 feet past, miss. 5.

9 (5, 490) Block drive into trees on right. Try and punch out, ball hits a root and goes straight up in the air. Try again, punch out to 150. 6i to 15 feet, miss 2' past, make. 6.

11 (5, 485) Good drive in fairway. 8i for position is long and pulled. Draw awful lie in some weeds, chop it out left handed. Ends up in a terrible lie in the rough, in a hole. Not a burrowing animal hole, just a hole. Manage to chop a 7i to 20 yards short of the green, lousy pitch to 20', 2 putts. 7.

12 (4, 390) The drive on this hole is super tight. Crushed one but pushed it just a hair, it caught a branch and who knows where it went. Provisional hit well to fairway, 5h from 155 to 10', putt lips out. 6.

13 (3, 155) 6i to 8', miss, tap in. 3.

14 (5, 475) Big sweeping hook doesn't quite make it back to the fairway. Punch out to 140. 7i worst shot of the day (even worse than opening drive), never gets more than a foot off the ground, to pin high right of the green. Pitch to 15', 2 putts. 6.

15 (5, 550) OK drive in right rough. Solid 3h to 130. 8i covers the flag, ends up 25' past. Bad read on first putt leaves 5', make it. 5.

16 (3, 175) 4h to 15', putt too hard, make 3' comebacker. 3.

17 (4, 410) Good drive to 155, 6i to 20', awful putt, miss from 4', tap in. 5.

18 (4, 430) Excellent drive to 190, 3h comes up on the front fringe, shaky lag from there to 3', make it. 4.

shot really well for me today (85). This is my 1st year of real golf and I'm finally making some progress. I really need to work on my iron game though...very suspect.

42-45-87 (par 70). Lag putting was horrendous as I hit 10 greens and had just 6 pars and a birdie. The non-GIR holes included too many blowups or penalties.

Pretty happy with my improvement this year. I don't feel too far off from being able to break 80, just need more consistency with each part of my game which will come with more practice.

Shot a 59 for 9 on a par 36 for my best score to date. I'm 43 and just started playing last September and got totally hooked. I was pretty happy about sticking a green from 126 yards. (2 putted for par)

The first time hitting and parring a par-3 was a big accomplishment for me. I can still remember the hole and the club I hit. Keep it up and your scores will come down in no time.
