MP-33s came in yesterday. Lovin' them. I hit 16 greens and shot a (-2) 70. I'm normally around 10-13 greens so 16 made me really happy. Course was George Dunne near Chicago, IL.

86 on easy course (but very wet)...

8 pars, 7 bogeys, 2 doubles, one quad

Good: driving, irons, 5-20 footers, 18 hybrid

Bad: lag putting (a few crazy 3 putts. Very wet undulating greens and I suck too)

Ugly: pitching and chipping, 5 woods. These were my 2 strengths in the summer. Very frustrating

96 for 31 stableford points.

4 Pars, 5 bogeys, 5 Doubles, 4 worse.

4/12 FIR, 3 GIR, 30 Putts.

Poor driving and inconsistent long fairway shots cost me but some sharp chipping and pitching saved me on occasion.
Terrible mistake on the 8th, weekly sliced my drive into a hedge but instead of taking a drop took three strokes to hack it out. On the twelfth bladed a wedge over the green and into a bramble patch. Couldn't find my drive on the fifteenth despite everyone thinking it had landed just off the fairway in the short rough, It had just disappeared.

parred first 4 holes in my 86 then tried to hit a huge hook intentionally. wasn't really necessary at all. didn't work and then round downhill from there. also, blind pulled 5 wood that i couldn't find led to quad..... so some course management and have to get my wedges back to being ok.

No score returned 33 stableford points.

6 pars, 4 bogeys, 4 doubles, 4 worse

6/12 FIR, 0 GIR, 36 Putts for 17 completed holes.

Driving and fairway woods and long irons where bad again short and slicey. After no three putts all round yesterday I started with three in succession today and had five by the end. Chipping and pitching was generally sharp again.

44-38-82 on a 4800-yard par-67

2 birdies
7 pars
3 bogeys
4 doubles
2 triples

4/12 fairways
4 GIR
13 GIR+1
30 putts

Mediocre first five holes aside from par on a very short par-5 (basically bogeying a par-4). Then I chip-in for a birdie on #6 after a nice 8-iron from the rough and over some trees. Par on #7: approach shot misses the green, chip to 3 feet, sink the putt. Next hole I hit a PW approach from about 105 into the wind to 4 feet, sink that. Back nine was really good, made 5 pars including 3 1-putts.

I didn't drive the ball all that well except for a couple holes, I just kept it in play and didn't do anything stupid. No penalty strokes, only 1 bunker shot, made solid contact on just about all my approach shots (and had a ton of shots that barely missed greens because I pushed them). And aside from 2 3-putts on the first four holes, I ran pretty hot with the putter. Chipping/pitching was pretty good, aside from two bad chips on a par-3 that led to double bogey. Really pleased with the round--it was 10 shots better than my previous best round at this course. Shaved 2.1 strokes off my handicap.

btw that's a really fun track to play

fairways are enormously wide, greens are undulated and fast (otherwise I shoot ~67 the way I hit it yesterday), par 3s all vary in distance, there are a few par 4s with some actual length, and the par 5s all take two big shots to get home. Big golf course, but fair.

Posting from our rental house in bandon, played bandon trails yesterday and bandon dunes today. Weather was *perfect* yesterday, was lucky there, shot 86 with 10 GIRs and 39 putts lol. This morning was raining pretty good but cleared up halfway through and turned beautiful again. The holes on bandon dunes right along the water are so pretty it's unreal, what a course. Shot 87 with better putting but a lot of small mistakes.

Have more rounds scheduled for the next 4 days so will update

No score returned again 30 Stableford points

2 pars, 7 bogeys, 6 doubles, 3 worse.

4/12 FIR, 1 GIR, 35 Putts from 17 greens

The sharp chipping and pitching that had saved me the last two games didn't make a reappearance. Most annoyingly I failed to record a score again by blobbing the 6th in the exact same fashion as Friday. Hitting a weak sliced three wood into the big spiky bush well short of the green.

106 at Southwyck in Pearland

Hit 11 of 14 FWs, 31 putts with 2 3 putts. only 1 GIR (3 putted it).

9 penalties (including 3 OB left off the T on #13)

Total lack of concentration today....

No score returned again 31 Stablford points

4 pars, 6 bogeys, 4 doubles, 4 Worse

6/12 FIR, 3 GIR, 29 putts from 16 greens

Blobbed the 6th again. That's three times in a row now.
Hit full shots much much better. Putted OK but shot shots were very hit or miss with three chunked chips, Two heavily over-hit chips and a bunker shot that didn't escape.

57-50-107

1 birdie, 2 pars, 5 bogies, rest bleh

4 fairways, 2 GIR, 6 GIR+1, 31 putts

Hit the ball great on the range, then took about a bazillion breakfast balls on the first tee. Drove it pretty well after that and had my best ever day in terms of driving distance. Short game was pretty good, had a couple of nice pitches to 1-2 feet. Highlight of the day was a short par-4, good drive that might've skipped through a fairway bunker. Ended up about 20 yards short of the flag, giving me an uphill chip shot with barely any green to work with. LW pitch landed just off the green, rolled to about 2 feet, sink the birdie putt.

Lowlights were a 13 and a 10 on the two par-5s. Gross.

Played in a 2 man scramble yesterday, we shot 74. Not great but not terrible. Conditions were tough, lots of wind. One terrible bogey where we both blew the ball over the green from 70 yards, one understandable bogey where we left ourselves a 10 footer thru a beat up section of green.

Twice on par 5s we ****ed up so badly that for our third shot I hit a driver out of the trees. Got the ball on the surface both times, two of the best shots I've hit all year.

Decided to skip playing today. I'm having all sorts of problems with my left ankle/achilles and the knee is a little cranky too, it's making it impossible to maintain any kind of consistency -- either I roll way the heck over on the ankle and pull the ball left, hang way back on my right side and ship it off to the right or something hurts and I chunk it. The offseason is coming at a good time I think.

Played in the Southwest Florida Men's Amateur Saturday and Sunday. Finished 3rd in it 5 years ago, the last time I played in a tournament, took 5 years off from golf. It is played on the city's owned two public courses, one of which is a Donald Ross designed course.

Shot 83-82. Was kind of okay with the scores for only playing 2 1/2 months since my layoff. Lack of confidence in my short game led to my under-performance.

Course #1 Played 6900 yards with wet fairways. Greens were faster than in the practice rounds I played and the pins were tucked on every hole on side hill lies. Was cold starting out then warmed up and got a little windy.

Started strong on the first two holes hit it within 10 feet, though I did miss both chances. Most 5 foot par putts I had had at least 3 feet of break to them. So I did get exposed on my putting by having 7 3 putts. Did make two biridies on holes #1 and #9, my 10th and 18th holes.

Low rounds were 74's by a couple college golfers from the university I went too. Which has won 4 straight D1 tourney's. 5 years go 68-69's were the low rounds, but much easier pins. I did hear a kid got DQ'd for signing for a 67 when he shot 68.

Course #2 is a short, but tight course. With greens that are the size of postage stamps and run offs every where. Classic Donald Ross, where you have to keep ball below the pin. Even par 71 was the low.

I started on #10, a 205 par 3 into the wind with elevated green with two bunkers and shaved embankment. Stuff a 7 wood and birdie, while other 3 in group make doubles. Birdied my second hole too, a par 5. Drove the ball beautifully too, hit every fairway. But got some horrible lies when I missed the greens. Like the ball sitting on dried up mud and sand at the root of sparse rough, where the grass thick at the top. No grass under the ball but thick above the ball. So no confidence in my chipping didn't help with those lies. Found out my best shot out of those lies with taking my putter and hitting down on the ball and bouncing into fringe.

Gives me motivation and goals for next year.

shot 88 on nice course. blues 6200 yards. very wet and leaves and twigs everywhere on the green

started both 9's well and then things deteriorated badly both times. maybe i need rotella, pia nilsson etc.. thinking i may start overswinging??

good: driving was mininally ok, some nice longer FW/hybrid shots, under 10 foot putts, par 3 tee shots. decent shorter iron shots

bad: still chunking pitches and long chips, some directional challenges

ugly: three putt mania. i said my under 10 foot putting was good but i often didn't get it that close. and still my make rate from 8 feet wasn't that great. just materially better than zero.

outrageously bad: 6 strokes to get down from 85 yards with zero threat of any penalty strokes. misclubbed approach (uphill, wet) and then flubbed short pitch and then 3 putt.

action plan:

figure out my crooked driving. snap hook or leave the club face open. this is after last game having my longest drives ever (albeit inconsistent then too)

and a 40 year old guy outdrove me by 70-80 yards. nothing too unique about him physically either. was well built though but shorter. have to analyze this. right now i'm short and wild. no problem with 19 year old guys outdriving me by miles but NOT unimpressive 40 year old guys. (and i don't get me wrong, i'm unimpressive too, or worse)

gotta get rid of the 3 putts. absolute killer. gonna calibrate my backswing length ala metronome

pitching/chipping perhaps with lesser lofted clubs than i've been using. might have to swallow my medicine on this.

gona start tracking my handicap. this is the first result.

Guys...wow. Today I tried using a trigger finger grip on a par 3 hole and was hitting a 7iron 170 according to cart GPS.

For those of you who don't know about this simple finger position, google pure ball striker, its an orange device, there's also a thread on GOLFWRX. I haven't used the device but did try to put more trigger in my right hand.

I am going to be experimenting this with my whole game for the next few rounds.

Played The Golf Club of Scottsdale today.

I hate the layout. Only a few holes where you can even see the landing area. Tons of uphill blind approach shots.

It's in good shape (as it should be for such a ritzy private club) but that's about the only good thing I have to say about it. Well, the greens were really nice too.

But good god I would never in a million years get a membership there.

Playing 9 holes in some brutal gusting winds, shot 44 the first time around. Played the same 9 holes using the two clubs less with the wind and two clubs more into the wind rule. I shot par on first five holes downwind, bogey on the par 3 on the turn, then bogey on a long, tough, and into the wind par 5. Thought to myself you just blew up this round. Then hit the drive of my life into the wind on the next par 5 and hit a 5 iron to 2 feet for and eagle putt, which I made. Standing on number 9 tee box, a long par 4 into the wind. Missed green on bad side, shot bogey. Won lots of monies as was a tournament. YEAH!
