It was from white tees, but it was a 74 (+2). Best thing about it was playing 18 (a par 5) hitting 3 solid shots then dropping the birdie putt in the center of the hole. Overcame one 3-putt double bogey + one ball in water earlier in round. (10 handicap)

Had my best ever round today - 92 (50-42) - Been shooting 95/96 regularly for a while now so it felt great.

Obviously didn't think it would be a good round judging from the front 9 but I pulled it back on the back 9 with 4 pars and 5 bogeys!

Hit some fantastic fairway woods to the green on the back 9, floating them up and landing them softly on the green, just felt amazing!

Breaking 90 here I come, just got to string two good 9's together!

53-53=106

I'm getting so close to breaking 100 I can taste it. The 106 includes a tee shot hooked OB, two balls in the water, and two-three putts. And did I mention it was really windy? I'm not good at estimating wind speed, but FWIW my 9-iron shots downwind were going 160-170 and about 115 into the wind.

Dang, without those 6 penalty strokes you're right on the century mark. Wtg!

managed to shoot -1 by eagling the last hole. quite discouraged with my putting, lacking a lot of confidence but hopefully that changes soon. feel like i'm missing so many makeable putts

so my parents go out and walk 9 before dark almost every night, i try and join them once or twice a week

this course is ****ing tough (trails of frisco for anyone in dfw area) front nine is par 36, played it probably 30 times now and usually shoot 38 or 39, best is 36 a coupla times

today played great and was -2 going to 8 and missed a 10ft easy birdie putt, oh well nbd. but got totally ****ed on 9 when a great 7iron out of the rough came up 1 yard short, stuck in the fringe and rolled back against the higher cut of rough, hit a great chip to 5 feet but missed the putt, sigh 35, still my best there but disappointing to end on a bogey when my second shot was the best shot of the round

shot even par from tips today, but had nice 55mph gusts that made the round far from normal. Was fun to hit a low trajectory bump and runs on holes I've played so many times I'm bored with.

Sorta wish I had a bigger game lined up as other person couldn't control trajectory and skyrocketed on cards lol.

First 6 holes: -1, to -2.
Next 12 holes, +6 to +8....

keep leaving wheels in the fairways.

Brag: had another birdie! Par-4 listed at 345, but my guess is that it's more like 330, and playing downwind today. 9-iron off the tee went about 160, dead center in the fairway, leaving about 170. Another 9-iron, feels good, bounces in front of the green a couple time and rolls on. I was pretty sure it was on the green, but didn't know how close it was; when I got up to the green, it was a little over two feet away! I was nervous standing over the putt, but rolled it in.

Beat: pretty average round otherwise. A couple of disaster holes, which is something I'd been avoiding fairly well lately.

Brag/beat: knocked a PW to 4 feet on a 115-yard par-3. Two-putted.

Awesome golf gambling story from yesterday's game. We are playing 4 man wolf with some handicaps set up, started out at $5, on hole 18 we are up to $20. Player A is stuck like $750 on the day despite flirting with breaking 80 (by far the best golfer in our group) and tilted. 18 is a par 5, he is the wolf, he hits a bad drive short rough, I hit similar in the rough, the other two guys are each getting a stroke, player B hits the fairway, C hits bad probably in a hazard. Player A decides to go lone wolf which doubles the bet in our game, our 3 person team immediately elects to double as well, player A re-doubles which is the cap. So its now $160 a man but a birdie doubles that and an eagle re-doubles.

We make our way down the hole and long story short, player B who is the worst player of the 4 hits a second shot that is deep in the right rough and almost in a hazard. He hits a PERFECT iron to 4 feet laying a legit 3, and he's getting a stroke, so if he makes that putt we are in for eagle and $640 a man from player A. player A is in left rough and hits his 3rd shot short of green in the neck, pin is in the back, he's probably 120 ft away on a not flat green. Myself and player C are effectively out of it. Player B is playing pretty high stakes here and is obviously nervous, but he remarks like "well I make it and win $640 or miss and still win $320 so that's good".

Player A is tilting like crazy that he's about to lose nearly 2k on this hole. He chips from the neck and promptly HOLES it for a birdie, disgusting. Now player B has a ridiculous amount of pressure on him because it went from $640 or $320 to $640 or $0
He pulls the putt, its outside the hole the whole way, and the hole is chopped. Never seen a guy so happy to lose the $750 on the day.

So my buddy calls me up this morning and says "I got us a tee time at Glen Abbey today, 2 pm, you down?" Haven't played Abbey in 6 years...we get on for $56 today w/ carts. Take that, ClubLink. Cold as **** but whatever.

43-37=80. 2 birdies on the back 9, played the Valley at -1. 34 putts, no three-putts on the back. Ball striking was the best its been all season, which shocked me. But then again, I haven't played in 6 weeks and I wasn't thinking about my swing at all, which probably helped tempo a lot. Felt really relaxed today and I guess it showed.

If I could hit a putt on the front 9, I could've gone much lower. Sigh. Breaking 80 at Abbey would be a dream.

It's definitely a must-play if you're from around the area. I know the PGA guys prefer playing the Canadian Open at Hamilton but Abbey is still incredible and imo it's still Canada's most famous course.

btw, hit the lip of the Tiger bunker with a 6 iron on 18 yesterday, huge letdown, lol. My buddy did the exact same thing. When I was 16, I took a 5 wood out of the Tiger bunker and actually flew the green, albeit to the left side and fairly safe from the water. Didn't feel right though, felt like I cheated. That shot still boggles my mind.

Geddy, a friend of mine has played Glen Abbey a few times and has said it's amazing and you have obviously confirmed that. Maybe I'll make the drive in the next couple of years.

Brag: broke 100!

Beat: it was a 4800 yard par-67 course with a rating of 63.7/104, so I don't think it really counts. (More like a par-66 if you don't call a par 5 that's 408 yards from the whites a par 5). And I shot 99. And I took a mulligan after slicing my tee shot on #1 off a tree and into the water. So it's a 101 if you want to be nitty (but that's still my best round at this course).

Brag: short game felt really good today. I don't think I had a single chip where I duffed it horribly, although there was at least one that I ran over to the fringe on the opposite side of the green. I felt really good pitching with my 60° wedge--best shot was one from about thirty yards away to 3 feet to get up-and-down for par.

Beat: I must've hit at least seven or eight pathetic wormburners with my 9-iron and pitching wedge, and at least five of them were tee shots. I've been making good contact with them lately; I have no idea what happened. Fortunately the course was playing dry and fast so a few of them came out okay, but I cost myself a couple of shots.

Variance: went to the range after the round and mostly worked on my woods/driver--I rarely hit them during a round. 5W felt like crap, and like more trouble than it's worth for any extra distance over my irons. 3W felt reasonably good. Driver I was making lots of good contact, but pushing and slicing a bit too much. While I was a the range, I saw the pro I took a few lessons from a while back, and I set up a lesson for next week to work on my woods and driver.

**** me. Had a really, really good chance for a career low today.

Hit it 10 feet on 1, missed. 20 feet on 2 for eagle, 2 putt birdie. 15 feet on 3, miss. 25 feet on 4, miss. 15 feet on 5, miss. 35 feet on 6, miss. 3 feet on 7, make. 30 feet on 8, miss. 12 feet on 9, miss. So -2 when it really should have been at least -4.

20 feet on 10, miss. 6 feet on 11, make. 25 feet on 12, miss. So 3 deep through 12, haven't come close to missing a green, and I just fell apart.

Snipe it left into a FW bunker, hit it a little thin left leaving myself a tough little pitch shot that I hit good but not great to 10 feet. Get a little wrapped up in making it, bang it 4 feet by, and lip that out coming back. Smooth double.

14 is a par 5, rip it down the center, standing on the 250 plate basically. Try to hit a cut 3-wood to the elevated green, but double cross it. Pin high left, about 40 yards or so. Chunk it a bit into a bunker, chunk the bunker shot, ram the 30 footer for par 8 feet by, miss. Two really good doubles in a row now.

15 is a short par 3, in between 8 and 9 iron today, steaming a bit so I try to hit hard 9 and come out of it. Ends up plugged underneath the lip and I make about a 6 footer for a great 4. So now I have pissed away 5 shots on 3 holes that I expect to play even or -1 everytime.

16 is short par 5, 190 to the center, pin tucked back left around a bunker. Hang it out 40 feet right, 3 putt.

Par on 17, then I stuffed it from a FW bunker on 18 to birdie it and win a couple of bets from the guys. So 73 with two doubles. Hit 11 fw's, 14 greens, and no penalty shots. 34 putts though, although I only feel like I hit 3 really bad ones, just didn't make anything. At absolute worst I should have shot 70 today and that's just eliminating 2 of the 3 putts and one of the chunked shots. If I make anything it could have been like 67.

Pretty good example of why I am a 4 HC and not anything better. I don't ever get anything out of my rounds, and always throw away at least a couple of shots that a good player wouldn't.
