what is a roll up?

44-44-88 today. stuck approach on hole 1 to 3 feet for bird (and it is a tough approach). from there it was a matter of just avoiding the big #'s which i did.

on 14 I hit 8 iron approach a little thin, but not THAT thin (it went 180 yards uphill). i had the trickiest downhill chip to a green running away from me from about 25 yards out that i put to within 2 feet. my partners told me that with another 100 tries i couldn't have done any better. they were right.

39-44-83. No birdies, 2 double bogeys. 69.2/124/6033 yards. Diamond Springs GC, Hamilton MI.

Fun DeVries design in the middle of nowhere. Ball striking was pretty good, putting godawful. Chipping was hit or miss, it took a minute to get used to the grass, it's mowed longer (no separate cuts for fairway and rough) and I laid the sod over the first couple.

Next time I play it I need to remember to bring a mallet putter.

39-36-75 +6 40 points in the comp got me 2nd.

I tripled the pay 5 3rd. Played safe as it was slightly into and hitting driver just brings hedges into play left and right. Well I thought I was laying up before them but nutted a 4 iron like 15 yards past them. Then hit a 5 iron to give me a wedge in and put it into the bunker, hit it out but didn’t hold green duffed chip and 3 putt.

Other than that I was pretty solid for the most part could of done with making a few more putts think I only made one from outside like 7 feet, everything was a 2 putt which was kinda annoying. This 4 iron is like a cheat stick I swear the only real brutal bad shots are when I smother the ball and I get a duck hook.

I feel like I’m so close to getting the swing to where I want it to be though would be good if I can get it to peak right around club champs, right now I’m scoring half decent when I’m striking it around 70% ish.

Friday Match: Lost 5&4.

Just outclassed. I wouldn’t have needed to play perfectly, but definitely needed to play one of my better rounds. Opponent was just very consistent….straight down the middle, GIR, two putts. He didn’t have any birdies and was +2 when we finished. Whenever it looked like I had a chance to pick one up, he’d dunk a long putt, or make a great recovery shot.

My opponent crushed his opponent in the championship match.

I was happy to win three matches, though, and I’m already looking forward to next year.

Today: 39-37 = 76

Played great after a double on the first. Missed a five footer for birdie on 17, and a three footer (a knee knocker) on 18. Putting actually wasn’t great, should have found a couple more birdies and more pars. Greens were quite a bit slower than they were the rest of the week, and couldn’t get it to the hole.

48/9holes. though it's likely 50. a 5-some let me play through and then proceeded to sit right behind me while I hit a tree, chip into the sand, 2 strokes out and waaaaaaay over the green. It landed on the next tee box. I took the hint.

Not sure. Whatever the number was it was large. Went on monkey tilt after one of the guys I was playing with did something bothersome while I’m trying to play a shot three holes in a row.

50-43-93

Just kinda playing like crap this season. Last year was consistently in the low-mid 80s, also broke 80 three times (1st time breaking 80 for me). This season average score has been around 88, with a bunch of rounds in the 90s. Best has been an 82.

Everything is just a little off. Driving about the same, but way worse GIR% than last season because my irons are all over the place. Chipping is worse than last year. Having 1 or 2 blowup holes per round where I card a triple due to a lost ball penalty, a skulled chip across the green into a bunker, etc.

I feel like my swing has gotten gradually longer, and that may be the crux of my problem. When I was playing better the swing felt compact, and was much more repeatable. Not much of a range rat but I guess I need to put in some work trying to figure it out.

Thank you sir. Overall I'm pretty happy with my game, and know what I need to work on. Club Championship is coming up, and while I don't have a chance at overall, I'm hoping to keep improving and have a chance at net.

Didnt play during june to focus my energy at work. Then early in July I injured my neck. Friday was my first 9. Today my second 9.

Doing a short experimental period. Havent kept score. Errors on both sides of target. Hitting it pretty clean despite the time off. Probably less than 10 truly terrible shots. I skipped an 8 iron over a pond today(where I met a woodchuck whose swim I disturbed).

Some highlights:

Friday: par on 1 from left greenside bunker.

Today:

3 iron to fairway corner of hard dogleg right off tee. 5 iron found the green from 180.

3 iron to 12 feet from 195 on par 3 sixth.

7 iron green in regulation but barely made front left corner (was shooting to the back of the green )

3 wood off tee on 9 almost used all the available fairway(unless I cut it more) might have gone about 260 high with helping wind.

No pars today tho.

One of the main reasons the game is so frustrating is it's hard to get everything firing at the same time. Last month, driver was **** but irons were on. Currently, driver is the best it's been, and mid-irons are ****. Hard to get the complete package.

This is among the most maddening aspects for sure. I always compare it to doing a "create a character" in a video game and as you slide the points in one attribute up, the others slide down.

Most annoying round I've ever played - Father's Day with my dad. Best driving round of my life. 11/14 fairways, with 2 of the misses being just in the first cut. Driving it 250-270 straight on the line I wanted.

3 putt bogey on the first hole. Second hole is a par 5 and I had 7 iron in on my second shot, fly the green into bunker over, make double. After that, every single iron shot was a shank. Had 9 iron or less into 14 greens. The only other fairway I missed other than the 2 first cut 270 yard drivers was a shanked 4 iron. Shanked multiple chips.

My dad drives it under 200 and he beat me by 20 shots as I fired a nice smooth 108 with the best driving round in my lifetime.

Correct.

I have been working on a lower spin shot but honestly I rarely practice it. When I get into the wind on the course I start stabbing at the ball making it spin even more. It's all an in the head thing.

Today was about a miserable weather wise I have ever been on the course. Was already 90 by 9am with absolutely zero wind and obv humid. It hasn't rained here since I arrived back last Thursday. Saharan dust FTW. Back to normal weather tomorrow allegedly.

40 (par 36). No birdies, no double bogeys.

Subpar ball striking covered by above average putting and some decent wedge play.

52 on par 35.whole game was terrible. Driver was all over the place, irons were off...first time playing in a league, so it could have been nerves. Did manage 1 par...regardless, just so pissed right now.

Yeah it's very rare you'll have everything firing on the same day. Just need to make sure that when you do have a bad day at anything in your game it's not horrendous and when you play your B or C game you can still make a score. My personal example for me when I'm having a bad driving day my shots won't be to far offline but my distance will suck.

Also to add to that, when I play with people and they have a few meh holes they'll stop trying and scoring. For me personally I think that's when you should be trying your hardest. To play when things are going South and trying to save a score is a good thing to have in your locker.

I agree, and this is kind of an obvious thing to say, but implementing this has gotten easier as my game has improved. I used to start off with a double and feel like the whole day was ruined, because I’d play out the round and add up the scores from harder holes where I knew I’d have trouble making par, and even bogeys. Now when I make a double, I’m thinking about the holes where I can make birdie and get those strokes back (and I’m making way more pars on the tough holes where I used to almost always be happy with bogey).

I 100% get that now these days, My expectations have shifted a ton over the last few months mainly due to taking part in the club comps for me to win them I have to shoot lower. For example in he 9 hole roll up I play off around 3 and I shot -2 and Level Par recently the -2 got my 2nd and the Level Par got me 3rd. In the 18 hole comps I'm shooting 3-7 Over off like 10ish recently has been good enough for a 2nd or a 3rd but usually it isn't good enough, but yeah my mentality has shifted if I'm in a decent position on a hole I'm thinking birdie when before I'm thinking Par.

Saying all that I had a interesting 9 holes today.

33 -1

1st hole cracking drive like A1 position for the flag with about 50 yards in, Pitched a wedge in a holed out for eagle.

3rd Hole Par 5 played safe off the tee and hit a 4 iron. Was a little left and was a bit to close to a bush so I had to take more loft than I wanted to and it was into the wind. Hit a decent shot which left me around 150ish. Hit a good 3rd bit wind got it and pulled it into the bunker in which I had a really shitty stance and left it into he bunker got it out and 2 putt for a double.

6th Long Par 4 hardest hole on the course and you'll take 5 any day. Was playing downwind today and hit a cracking drive, Left me like 200 to he flag hit a 5 iron but went over the back. Up and down for the Par.

7th Par 3 put it to 5 feet and got a Birdie.

9th Par 4, Iron off the tee which left me a wedge in to a tucked flag anything short is in the bunker and anything long is a tough up and down. I hit it to 7 feet and made the birdie.

1 thing I am happy about is that I'm striking my driver out the centre again but I only hit 2 drivers so very small sample.

Yeah sure, Here is the hole.

Yesterday when I was playing the wind was into and right to left, This is kind of the worst wind for me as I do hit a right to left ball.

Bushes line the fairway right and left around 210ish and it's like a 30 yard gap. Missing right is fine as the rough isn't bad over these bushes but if I miss right it will come up way short usually and I'll be in the bush most of the time with a wind like this. Missing left is a no no the rough behind the bushes on the left is thick and if you go into that stuff you're usually wedging it out if you can find it and leave yourself 200+ in for your 3rd.

As it's so bouncy at the moment I probably should of gone with something like a 6 iron off the tee as I missed the 4 iron a little left I had to take a bit more loft on my 2nd to make sure I got over the bushes, I got quite fortunate with the way the ball was sat as it was on a bit of a launch pad if it wasn't I would probably taking 9 iron or wedge on a flat lie.

Recently I haven't been hitting the driver well, I've been kind of slapping it and hitting out the heel and would miss right and short. So that played a massive part and this 4iron has been my go to club.

I don't know how to hit a wind ball (which is really bad for a prairies golfer).

I try to put it back in the stance, "punch" the ball with an abbreviated backswing and follow through, but really this method only serves me well when I'm stymied or punching out from under trees.

1 birdie, no doubles

Par #1-7, 3-putt bogey #16 and #17. Bad tee shot on 18 and I tossed the 3 wood. 2nd in the trees hit a tree and tossed the 8 iron, snap. Made par.

Anger issues, man.

I needed to develop a wind ball living on the coast, and yeah, pretty much took my punch shot from under trees and turned it into a drive, with the ball practically on my back foot. 80% of the time it works out really well. 10% of the time I somehow manage to sky it. The last 10% is a horrible, horrible pull somehow. I don't like the wind.
