played 36 holes yesterday.
50-52-102
45-50-95

i was hoping to break 90 on the 2nd round and was +13 thru 13. and then it f'in poured. we did whatever we could to stay dry but i still ended up pretty soaked. i butchered the next hole and then was just looking to get out of there.

i did have my first 300 yard drive of the year. yay.

Fairly rare occurrence I would think, from my Friday round.

Both myself and one of my group mates eagled the par 5 6th. Can't say I have ever been in a group with multiple eagles on the same hole.

Thinly veiled brag on my first eagle of the year!

nice eagle!

i don't think i've ever been in a group with multiple birdies. now that i think about it i'm sure it's happened, but i'm sure not many times.

edit: golf is the best. i have 4 career eagles. i holed out from 165 on a par 4 earlier this year. i remember the other 3 eagles (all with a made putt on a par 5) but the most recent one was probably 20 years ago. i was resigned to the fact that i'd never get another. what a sport.

I can remember my first Eagle I ever got was on a Par 5 holed out from about 100 Yards, Then next hole 180 up hill Par 3 went over the back by 20 and Holed out for Birdie.

Crazy how this game can work.

2 birdies, 1 double

Also one snake found! It was on the hole I made the double. Hit my 3rd near the water where there was some long grass. Found the ball, then where I was gonna stand there was some long grass and I was thinking that's a great place for a snake. I hit the grass around it with my wedge and there popped out a snake. Was fairly small but a snake not the less!

46-37-83. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys.

A truly miserable front nine, eight bogeys and a double as I screwed up exactly one thing on every hole. Usually with the putter. Zero touch and some incredibly bad efforts.

Made the turn, went to a more upright style used by a guy I used to play with, and putted lights out on the back.

Ball striking was better on average, drivers were mostly quite good as I figured something out the end yesterday and it carried over. 3 wood was inconsistent, used it more than usual. Grabbed a couple irons from the backup set of Eye2s and used them quite a bit with only one poor shot, I think I'll go back to using those for a while in the mid irons at least.

49-44-93. no birds. one triple. some doubles.

highlight was a double on a par 5 that really should have been like a 12 with how i played the hole.

75 on a par 71 today. 3 birdies, only 8 greens in reg but one putted 9 greens. I had one of the worst cases of the shanks I've ever had in my life 2 weeks ago (shanked half a bucket of balls last weekend) and thought I was done for the season but managed to turn it around.

Nice comeback and nice round. I've been there with the shanks on the range. Definitely shakes your confidence. It's almost like the brain wiring gets messed up and the body will no longer do what it obviously knows how to do. It's not a pleasant thing to go through but feels good to come out the other side.

Thanks bro and yes, the were messing with my head big time. Nothing worse than waking up before a round and the first thought is "how many am I going to shank today?" lol. In my case, I noticed that i was death-gripping with my left hand just before taking the club back, so I stopped doing it and they went away.

44-40 = 84.

Same thing I've been complaining about; I just can't score on the front nine. I ended the back nine with a double and a bogey, so the 40 was exceptionally disappointing.

4 birdies, 3 doubles

It's lol me back again with the swongs. Finished double, birdie, birdie, double. The 3 doubles:

1. Took 2 to get out of greenside bunker.'
2. Got lazy and pushed a 4 hybrid off the tee into lateral hazard, then missed the green.
3. Layup shot on 18 and I shanked it WAY OB. It's that typical lie and swing that will produce it every few months. Fluffy lie and hitting a soft iron.

Haven't touched a club for 6 days and it showed.

41-43-84 (Par 69)

Putted actually really good, Was aggressive inside 10 feet and my long putts I had a couple that were 30-40 feet and got the pace right which were taps in's after.

My striking was a bit hit or miss today. Had everything in the bag. Fat, thins, high right, pull left and even two tops. Saying all that I'm not sure how I even got round the course lol,

1 Shot to remember though, Pulled a 5 Iron left into the wind from probably around 160-170ish, Missed the short rough and went into the long stuff, Greenside bunker in front of me and it's one of them shots where you just don't know how it's going to go you just need to hit a wedge hard at it. Managed to get it within 10 feet and holed the putt. Probably my best up and down in a while.

I had a go with Shotscope V3 and for someone who doesn't usually wear watches it was totally fine. I need to make more of a habit of looking at yardages as I was mainly going off feel (Played the course that many times). Other than that though its fairly easy. I messed up at the end though in terms of my round didn't sync so need to look into that, I think I ended the round before syncing or something not sure.

44 (par 35). No birdies, 2 double bogeys.

Kinda unusual ball striking day - ball flight was higher and more left-to-right than usual (usual being not at all). It took a bit to adjust my aim but once I did everything was pretty much dead on. Also a bit longer than usual presumably due to better contact. Short game, however, was ass and I only got up and down once. Highlight was the last hole, managed to reach a long par 4 dead into the wind with a solid drive and a flushed 3 wood. Missed the putt but hard to care too much about that, felt good to get a GIR on a hole I have a hard time reaching when it's downwind.

Played real well today; two big mistakes but mostly solid. 39-39 78 (5.9 diff my lowest in a while).

hit 7 fwys, 9 greens, 31 putts and I three putted from 6 feet on 15. Also pumped one drive OB but salvaged double. Made 2 doubles, 2 birdies, 4 bogies and 10 pars. I’ve been averaging 36 putts per round this year and hitting right at 9 greens so the 31 putts was nice and very welcomed.

Was going good at even par through 5. Then got in our shitty bunkers again and made double. Didn't go well after that.

I did almost have a par after hitting first ball OB on 18. Tried a big hook off the tee that hooked too much. Second ball was great, had a 188y 7 iron (Super Speed Golf!) to 15 feet and lipped out the par putt.

40-36-76 (Par 68)

2 Birdies - 8 Pars - 7 Bogeys - 1 Double

1 Three Putt - 7 up and downs

Double came from a nice decent drive on the Par 5, but just caught the bigger rough but it was actually sat up nicely, Decide to try and swing a hybrid at it but as I was coming in to strike the ball grass caught hold of my club and hit it about 70 yards. Then hit another hybrid and just missed short of the green and then not sure what happened but I managed to shank it 20 yards right. Then just got on the green and 2 putt.

I tried hovering the club at address today and I guess it seemed to of worked. I'm doing this because I don't like how static at address I am, Hovering allowed me to a bit more free gave me a bit of a better tempo and feeling wise I swung the club a bit faster. Didn't really mis hit a shot in terms of super fat or top.

I honestly feel like if I can squeeze a bit more distance out of my clubs then I would be way more consistent, May have to try that super speed golf like Scott was suggesting. Like I'm a short hitter I can squeeze a driver out to like 250-260 on a good hit but them good solid hits don't come very often. My average hit will be around 220-230, With that distance I may as well hit a 3 wood and not let it spray about so much.

My Pitching/Chipping is pretty decent at the moment is always been the best part of my game by far, 7 years ago as said I don't hit very far and just gave up trying and just practice short game as that was the only thing I was good at.

1 Thing that sucks that my player partners left after 12th just because they were having a bad game.

Edit: Trying shot scope. It's a bit hit or miss at the moment. Need to get in the habit of making sure it picked up the club before I hit the shot. It's really good to have a number to hit to though, Knowing the distance you have to Front, Middle and back is really nice, It's nice in a way that you can hit x club 100% and you'll know you won't go long with it. So if you don't have a range finder and your semi serious about getting better I'd suggest getting something like this.

The only work you really have to do with Shotscope is to "collect pin" then after your round, You'll need to edit the round. Doesn't take long probs 10 mins on a PC.

Tourney did not go well.

48-40-88

So I shot 88 without a bogey! I have 5 doubles and 2 triples. Started great knocking it to 12 feet on #1 for birdie, made par. Par on 2 and 3. Good tee shot on 4 and I have around 115y in. It was lift, clean, and place so I had a nice fluffy lie. Shanked it into the trees, lost ball, made double.

First triple is on a 530ish yard par 5. I tried to sling a driver around the corner and pulled it a bit into the trees. Found it and had an easy out to the fairway. Had 165y left for 3rd shot and buried it into the front bunker. And I really man buried it. Was a solit 2 inches buried into the lip. Swing as hard as I can and barely get it out of pitch mark where it slowly rolls into my footprint. Next shot hits the lip of the bunker. Next shot goes over the green. Chip up and make the putt to save triple.

Other triple was lol bad. 300y par 4 up the hill and I am 36y out. Lay sod over the first one, chunk the next, and I am 5 yards short of the green still for my 4th. Obviously decide to putt and run it about 30 feet by. I said "I'll finish: and play hockey for 3 more putts.

Oh, I did have a 4-putt double as well. Greens looked to be about 2 weeks out of aeration so they were still pretty bumpy. First putt was 40 feet or so up a slope and down to the hole. Putt bounced about 3-4 times off the face and I leave it 6 feet short. Downhill slider goes 8 feet by, then 2 more putts from there.

One thing that was really exposed was my chipping game. It was beyond terrible. It got exposed even more because my short irons were missing greens.

We were on the 17th green when the weather horn sounded. Text came saying finish the hole you are on and come it. We sprinted and played 18 to not have to wait. It was only just us 4 in our flight so no big deal.

Today 39-39-78

1 birdie, 1 double

39-39 = 78.

Tied for my personal course record. Everything was as "on" for me as it gets, just a few bad mental errors. I thinned a PW, which I NEVER do, on the second hole, a very easy par 4, flying the green down a large embankment and failing to get up and down. Mis-read the speed on an off-the-green putt on a par 3 on the front, and bogeyed one of the toughest holes on the course for the 39.

Started the back nine par-birdie-par before bogeying the two hardest holes on the course (for me....they're just too long). Disappointing par on 15 when I had my only BAD putting stroke of the day, pushing a 6 ft birdie putt to barely miss. I was feeling damn good, +4 going into a stretch of three holes where I probably average +1 but when I'm playing well even is a definite possibility. On 16 I hit my best drive in probably 15 years, no joke. I wish I knew what I did, because it was the perfect trajectory, jumped off the face, and actually had distance. I was 90 yards out on a hole where I'm often 130-150....and miffed my PW. Two bad shots with the PW, usually my most trusted club. I was right between pitch and bump and run range, chose the B&R, and picked the wrong club for a two putt bogey.

Parred the par-3 17 without a problem, and hit just an o.k. drive on 18 for a 5-wood in, but unfortunately I was in a hard divot, didn't make good impact, and ended up slicing it far right of the green. I had a decent pitch up, but lipped the par putt for bogey.

Still...it was one of those rounds that keep you coming back. Much to my playing partners' delight, a mix of bad and mediocre rounds bumped my handicap up to a 10, giving me a stroke on a par 5 where birdies out number my bogeys (well, close). Alas, it only last two rounds, as the 78 put me back to a 9.

Thanks fellas. I try not to be the guy who goes over every stroke with the pro after a round, since they get that a lot, but the pro I've had a few lessons with also posts scores for our group, and he texted me "nice round" later in the day. He's seen my struggles, so that felt good.

I did realize the obvious, which is how much putting matters. I didn't have any three putts, and except for the birdie miss, canned everything within 6-7 feet. Definitely the difference between the 78 and the 81-84 doldrums I've been in.
