Even though that very much sucks and I'm sorry to hear it, I still chuckled at the idea of the doc knowing your swing that well.

Yeah he is a member of my Saturday and Sunday groups. Also know the guy who read my MRI as I golf with him occasionally as well. That's why I knew the results 3 hours after the MRI.

NOW he tells you. he's kept quiet for years just waiting to have you as a patient.

get better scott, and i'm guessing you can take this layoff as a way to work on other aspects of your game (stretching/flexibility, etc) to come back in a better place than you are now.

That sucks. I had terrible wrist tendonitis for a year that I thought could have been a TFCC tear. Had an x-ray done through my primary which an ortho used to diagnose as having too long of an ulnar bone, and said I'd have to shave it down like 4mm. He was ready to rock until and told me an MRI wouldn't be necessary, which I had done, and it showed my ulnar bone was the proper length and I had tendonitis.

Hopefully the hand guy has some better news, or that something like PT + a bullseye wrist brace might be enough even if the TFCC is torn. I remember how miserably depressed and angry I was after being told I'd need 6 month+ recovery surgery.

Well I decided this is the off-season I actually work on developing a legit golf swing. I joined Rebellion Golf which is the site run by Monte Scheinblum. For those unfamiliar with Monte, look up the "No-Turn/Cast" drill on Youtube. I've watched a lot of online golf instruction but this guy is the best imo. He has quite a following on Golfwrx.

I took it to the course first time yesterday (was a cold breezy day in NJ). Hit some of the best iron shots of my life. Score was not great (91) thanks to some bad drives and a bunch of 3-putts. But I felt as though I was compressing my iron shots much better and the overall swing felt more compact and powerful. Makes me more optimistic for next season.

Monte has a great ability to simplify the swing to its essentials, and he seems like a cool down to earth guy. Highly recommend checking his youtube stuff out or visiting the Rebellion Golf site.

Won a charity scramble today with a -19 51. We won by 4. I felt somewhat guilty having possibly the best 4 golfers in the tournament on the same team but first place was $50\man in gift cards to a local sports bar so it's not like we were playing high stakes.

Last edited by ec_outlaw; 12-05-2020 at 06:15 PM. Reason: We gave a lot in donations to the charity as well.

-19????????????

i've heard of like -14. -19 sounds impossible for non-pros.

There were air cannons and mulligans and "buy your way to the 100 yd marker" type stuff on some holes so it wasn't a straight up -19. As about an 8 handicap it was fun being the worst player on the team.

i've played in charity scrambles with lots of 'junk' with winning scores around -22 or -23.

I honestly thought we had left too many strokes out on the course and somebody was going to turn in a -21 or something.

We came second in a charity ambrose on Friday, only losing to a team who bought 20x mulligans at $20 a pop.

How’s this for a wild finish though...

We’re -10 thru 16, playing really solid. 17th is a par 3, 18 a par 5 playing downwind and our low marker in the group is LONG. Our high marker (29) still needed a tee shot, as your team has to use three tee shots from every player for your card to be valid, and he only had 2.

He puts it through the back on 17, and between 4 of us it should’ve been an easy up and down. However, another guy in our group sticks it to 6 feet, below the hole. Low marker thinks we should take 29hc’s tee shot so that it frees us up to take his bomb on 18 and go eagle hunting. We end up deciding that yes that’s a good idea, however we have a birdie on a platter here and 29 can put it almost anywhere off the tee on 18 and we can still make birdie between us.

WELL.

All 4 of us miss the putt on 17. Low marker is ropable and unloads on 18 tee. Absolutely pipes it down the guts (this was the long drive bonus hole, and he won it). He would’ve had 7ir into the green, but we had to take 29’s tee shot no matter what.

He hits it well, but there’s a tree down the right that catches anything squirted out a little. We hear it hit the tree but whatever, we’ll be able to lay up and get a good look.

Get up to the tree and we can’t find his ball. Looking everywhere, one of the guys decides to wander up to 17 tee box where there’s this little, stumpy pine - kinda in the shape of a dome or massive mushroom. Hard to describe but anyway, you guessed it, our ball is right in the middle of it. Stone dead, aside from bunting it with a wood to punch out.

We all have a crack, taking turns crawling inside the bush (it’s a miracle we even had enough space to take a tiny backswing..) and hitting out. Last to go learns that aiming farther right, over toward the 7th green is the play as you can advance it further, so he does that.

His ball is laying down in the rough, about 215m to the green with 30m high gum trees blocking us out. It’s an easy pitch back toward the 18th fairway, so we put one safely on the 100m marker and get to work calculating the miracle shot at the green.

Two of us go for green and can’t quite get it over the trees, so head back toward the safe one at the 100m. We’re hitting our 4th shot on this par 5 from 100m out, instead of hitting our 2nd from 170m had we taken 29hc’s tee shot on 17...

Fortunately, 3/4 of us hit the green, one of which is stuffed in tight and we walk off with a par.

Bogey free, mulligan free -10, good for solo 2nd place.

Sunday: 38-45 = 83.

The upside is I ended playing my best golf in a couple of months. Club's monthly "Breakfast Club" where you're assigned teams and a shotgun start. As is customary, the board of directors bought everybody drinks during breakfast and I, like many, had one too many. I believe in a bit of swing grease, but this was tad too much for first thing in the morning. We teed off on 12, and easy par 5 and after a decent tee shot I flat topped my second. Like, the kind of top that goes 10 yards. Pulled it together for a bogey, but finished the rest of the backside with a couple doubles, no pars. Started the front with a bogey, bounced back with a birdie, then TRIPLED the third hole. Decent tee shot, then two worm burners before hacking it around the green.

Then, it just clicked. Finished the round Par-Birdie-Par-Bogey-Par-Birdie-Par-Par. Score is great, but for me the best part was it was nothing but consistency. Decent drives, GIRs, good lag putts, and a couple makes.

Went and saw the specialist today. He says no TFCC, no break, just a sprain/strain of a muscle in my hand. He said keep the brace on another 2 weeks then I can start back slowly.

So good news!

Another reason you should always get a second or third opinion, and why doctors need to be much more careful with things they say than they are.

Happy for you.

That is good news and hopefully you'll be full go for 2021.

It's actually supposed to be nice enough today here to play and I'm pretty tempted. Tomorrow will be warm but rain moves in and then winter kicks in overnight. Boo.

Today would have been a perfect day to play. 71* and little wind.

Got one last round in yesterday - was a glorious 50* December day. Hit it pretty solid but just enough loose iron shots that I didn’t score great. 40-40 80. Made two birdies including a par 5 that I hadn’t birdied all season at this course I play about 50% of my rounds at. This year that was 17 rounds (for hcp) and I got 14/18 holes birdied/better. 4 long par 4s I didn’t get but one I play as a 3 shotter bc of OB left and lake right.

Really worked hard on learning to hit a driver the second half of this season and it is unbelievably better. But my iron play has deteriorated so I’m gonna get a few indoor lessons here in December and January. Then I’ll be ready to roll next spring.

Very nice, about what time can you usually play your first round of the year? Growing up in MN I usually remember one course was always the first to open, if no snow I could usually get our around the end of March.

As early as Feb 15th and as late as March 15th - the big thing is I'm a tax accountant so I work 7-days a week and don't really even squeeze out on a Sunday from end of Feb to April 15th; so my golf season normally begins just after tax day.

Less extensions is more time for golf from May to November. I want to get as many done as possible by April. Frees up my year!!

we don't need to go into detail about the score. had two pars and the rest were bogeys or doubles, no three putts, 4 penalties.

high of 40, two club wind, rained on us half the holes, soggy fairways with no roll, greenside puddles on several holes that prevented running anything up. just a round to knock the rust off before Bandon in January.

highlight: 150ish par 3 but playing more like 175 actual with the wind, rain, and cold. this is not my pic, and our tee box today is to the right of this shot.

pin was in the back, shot lands middle. after it lands and we're walking up to the green a squirrel comes running from the trees on the right directly to my ball, snatches it up and goes ripping back to the trees. climbs about 5 feet up the tree, shakes its tail, climbs higher up to a knob about 25 feet off the ground and pauses to stare at us. finally circles the tree higher and disappears into a hole about 40 feet up. comes back out after a few seconds without my ball. bastard!

find my pitch mark and put another ball down, he comes racing back and we try to shoo him away as my putt is rolling to the hole. he honestly tried to get all four balls on the green and he would have if we weren't actively swinging putters at him. after we picked up our balls he raced to a couple of bags off the green and started climbing up them to find something else. little ****er.

Got back from Arizona yesterday. Played Superstition Mountain Prospector, Arizona Country Club, and AK-Chin Southern Dunes. All of the courses were badass, had an awesome time. What cracked me up was the members I played with at Superstition were complaining about the condition of the course. I thought it was great. One guy was bitching about how they used to maintain the desert better, lol. I mean its a ****ing desert, if you hit it in there (which I did), you get what you get.

That's hilarious, RedEyes. Thought that kind of **** only happened in cartoons and Caddyshack.

I always shoot better on the Blue than my handicap would indicate....until the 18th hole. I've had several rounds where a par or bogey gets me in the 70s, only to plunk a few in the water. Such a great course, especially for a muni. Green is just ho-hum overall, but I'm pretty sure at least a couple of my all-time best scores are on that course. It's short, and everything else suits me for some reason.
