For some reason dont like paying for rain gear, maybe cuz hate playing in rain. But the gore-tex pants I bought some years ago still a great buy even though cost quite a bit. And yea never saw good discounts on gore-tex either.

gotta shop for rain gear in the spring/summer when it's not needed and companies are trying to clear out last season's merch for the next season.

of course it all depends on how much you're going to play in the rain over a certain period of time. if you're going to end up playing 100 rainy rounds over three or four years (and by rainy i don't mean misting...real rain), then the real question is if you're willing to spend $2.50 per round to wear a quality rain jacket that actually keeps you dry. seems like a bargain to me.
there are also several products that you can use to extend the effective waterproofing ability of your jacket. i could go into detail but REI is a great resource for this info.

It's totally redneck golf, but I'm seriously considering getting one of the waterproof hoodies. It never really POURS down here...just bounces between misting and light rain.

I actually went to REI yesterday to buy rain gear and came home and saw this post. I enjoy hiking so I like the idea of multi-purpose rain gear. Spent a little more than I had planned but whatevs.

38-42-80

1 birdie, 2 doubles

Played the tip in prep for a tournament Saturday. Tough from back there. The diff in GHIN is 5.4 when posted. Struggled a lot with the swing but limped around fairly well.

might help you keep your head still?
i bought a waterproof Old Mac cap a few years ago that i wear all the time in the rain.

we should probably take this conversation to the equipment thread and not clutter up this one.

37

2 birdies, 3 bogeys

Walked 9 this afternoon. Almost bearable to walk in FL again. 2-club wind was tough.

38-42 80 yesterday with 12 greens hit and 38 putts. 6 bogies and a double. Hitting it better than I ever have off the tee the last month and yesterday the ball striking with irons came back a bit. But didn’t hit any close or make any putts and 3 putted 3 times. Chipped pretty badly though. Need to get up and in more often. Awesome time of the year. 6 weeks left of golf and I think there will be some more good rounds.

40-41-81. No birdies, no double bogeys. 69.3/124/6,100 yards.

Cold, windy day. Waited out a frost delay and it never really warmed up much. Driver continues to be dialed in, other ball striking hit or miss. Chipped relatively well, putter so-so.

41-47-88

2 birdies, 4 doubles, 1 triple

Tournament did not go so well. 2 club wind and my irons were horrific all day. Usually it's my drives that kill me in the wind, but only hit two that I basically had to pitch back to the fairway.

I'm a lock to shoot 71 with my Sunday group tomorrow.

Missed 5 or 6 birdie putts inside of 10 feet. Best driving day in a long time.

When the driver works = less yardage into greens = shorter birdie putts

1 - Had a 20 yard pitch for 3rd into par 5 - 8 feet for birdie - miss
2- Actually had 6 iron because i popped up drive - hit it to 10 feet - miss
3 - Had a short chip over bunker for 2nd to par 4 - Hit it to 6 feet - miss
4 - Par 3 hit 8 iron to 8 feet - miss
6 - Pound drive, have 99y left, hit it to about 12 feet - miss
10 - Make a 6 foot birdie!!!!
11 - Pound drive, have 67y in, hit it to about 10 feet - miss
13 - Make a 5 foot birdie!!!!
14 - Miss 30 foot birdie
16 - Pound drive - Have 50 something in, hit it to 10 feet - miss
17 - Leave 50 foot birdie putt on the lip

**** golf!

40-44 = 84.

Yesterday, conditions were absolutely putrid. 20-25 mph sustained winds with big ol' gusts. It was blowing but only drizzling right before the usual tee off, and we managed 9 guys (it's usually 3-4 groups, usually with a couple fivesomes). There was a bit of whining and discussion about quitting around 11 and 12, but we all powered through. I wasn't displeased with 84 given the conditions...helped that I hit every fairway but the last.

Quick little aside on something I love about my course: every Saturday and Sunday a group of guys, mostly older, goes to the course for breakfast at 7:00, make a list of who's playing, and the pro shop makes groups. Any and all are welcome, and it's a great group of guys. When I joined it was really nice to have a weekly, semi-scheduled way to meet folks and know you'd have a game. I've been a member at a couple places, one in particular, that was super cliquey and it was hard to break in to the "usual" groups. Very happy to have this.

curious about your cliquey place...is it one word that starts with an R and end with an E? or two words that start with a C and end with an R?

Starts with an 'R' and ends with 'iverside.' Funny though considering your post, shortly after I left a whole bunch (I heard 20-30) left Riverside for CE. Who knows how that shifts the cliques. I didn't feel bad for Riverside regardless, as when I was there I know a large number of their core group were part of a mass migration from Royal Oaks several years before. What's good for the goose....

a good friend of mine was once the president of the men’s club at Oaks and might have had some influence on the migration to R-side, where another good friend was president of the men’s club.

1 birdie, 2 doubles

Hit a crazy line off the tee on 18. Hit 9 iron approach over (was downwind) and had to settle for par. Pic below.

I will try and remember to take a pic of how the hole looks off the tee when I play Thursday.

nowhere anywhere close to the same situation as scott's shot, but there's a course i play fairly frequently that had a 'street of dreams' development build up along the 11th fairway (a par 5). the tee boxes are at the bottom of the image, house in question to the right, and green at the top. this is a course that hosts numerous scrambles/shambles per year, so the quality of golf can be very suspect for extended periods of time each summer.

house in question has multiple signs in their yard warning about legal action if a golf ball should find its way to their property (you can see the signs from the tee box of the par 3 previous hole). they also have multiple driving range type nets strung up to protect their patio living. i still don't know what the **** they were thinking when they decided to purchase a $1M+ home within shank range and decided to get angry about it.

just to add a little bit of extra spice to the story, the last time i played this course one of the guys in our group blocked his drive off the roof of the next to last house near the top of the image. the ball rattled off their shingles, bounced off the gutter across their fence, and he ended up with a birdie from the rough.

I've hit houses before but Scott's hole diagram gives me anxiety just looking at it.

Unrelated: I hate real estate development golf courses.

Forgot to take pics today. Will try and remember on Saturday.

Today not good.

37-47-84
1 birdie, 3 doubles

Funny thing is that I don't think I played all that bad on the back. I had 3 3-putts and just missed my line off of a couple tees where it hit a tree and knocked it straight down.

Yesterday was nice - hit 10 fairways for the first time all year. Got the new shaft in my driver and it feels really good; only hit it on 6 holes (weird wind and tee setup day) but they were all serviceable and 4 of them were really good. Didn't miss a fairway with my driving iron; which is turning out to be a good addition to the bag this year.

41-39 80. Played the last 7 +1 with a 3 short missed birdie putts (8', 10', 5'). 10 fwys, 9 greens, 35 putts, 1 birdie, 1 double. Best tee and iron game day in a while; just didn't get putts to drop and chipping was pretty meh.

38-42-80. No birdies, 1 double bogey.

Not much consistency other than with the driver. Awful putting.
