44-43-87. (par 37-35-72). No birdies, 4 double bogeys.

I was due for one of those days. Hit the ball very well on the front, but kept making bogeys and doubles from the middle of the ****ing fairway. Kinda lost interest on the back.

Played 9 with a first time golfer today. A good attitude goes a long way in this game and she has it.

Started with two bogeys and a quadruple bogey on par 5 third hole. Then bogey par par birdie bogey bogey.

Didn’t actually keep score we just had fun.

Sideways from path and face or from the hosel?

I quit after 9 earlier this season when I had a lesson first and couldn’t keep it on the planet and it was hot and I was a bit tired. No sense playing if you’re whoa frustrated imo

right to left path with the face wide open. i knew it every time at the top (which multiplies the horror) but just couldn't stop. obviously it never happens on the range but once it rears its ugly face in an actual round things compound from there.
i either need a frontal lobotomy or a bottle in front of me.

Chapmans are a blast, but can definitely be frustrating if you or your partner aren't playing well. My dad and I play a bunch of tournaments together, and he hates chapmans because he hates it when he feels like he's letting me down if he's playing bad. I don't give a ****...obviously I'm just playing for fun and to hang out with my dad, but he was between a +1 and a 3 for several years before a bunch of artificial joints got in the way, so he's just frustrated with the game generally.

Saturday: 47-40 (87)
Sunday: 40-40 (80)

Saturday just sucked...I used to be able to show up five minutes before a tee time and play like I'd already played 18 (for better or for worse), but apparently I can't do that anymore. I was just hacking all over the place the first few holes, and was having a really hard time adjusting to the greens, which were wet and soft for the first time in months; I couldn't get myself to adjust to speed, and less break. I was 10 over after 7 holes, birdied 8, then managed another double on 9 (which is usually a high potential birdie hole). Can't really explain what happened on the back, other than starting to adjust to the greens, and a birdie on 10 kept me mentally in it.

Sunday was great, and "should have scored better." I was even going into five, but had a disappointing four bogey streak through a stretch where only one hole is one I somewhat expect to bogey, and the others are all somewhat-regular birdies. Backside was a bit similar...birdie 10 for the second day in a row, then went par-par-bogey-bogey with the two bogeys coming on the toughest two holes on the course (for me....long par 4s). Bogeys on 15 and 16 were bummers, but finished par bogey for a respectable round. Highlight for me was I didn't have any doubles on the card. That's been my goal these days. Just wish I had thrown in a couple more pars, and made the 2-3 birdie putts I managed to edge.

I'm still obsessed with length off the tee. I just feel like everything else is "there," and I'd be scoring in the 70s consistently with just 10-20 yards more off the tee. In addition to not being strong or flexible, I hit my drives way too high and haven't been able to fix it. Might be time for another lesson.

Fourball event - team score was 37-37-74

Neither of us has played the course before and it did hurt the score a bit. There were some tee shots I would have clubbed down on. I would call it Donald Ross light. There were some false fronts and runoffs on greens but it looks like the reno work softened the runoffs. I think I had only one shot where I ran it up the slope after hitting the false front and rolling back.

We both ended up shooting 82 so I guess ham n' egged it fairway well.

Played with an uncle/nephew team that shot 68. The nephew was around 25 or so and played at FGCU. Pretty good player. He alone finished birdie, eagle, birdie and shot 70.

Pinehurst area bound tomorrow morning. Well, flying back to NC tomorrow anyway, then driving to Pinehurst Wednesday morning. Mid Pines Wednesday afternoon, Pine Needles Thursday morning, then Pinehurst #? Friday. Hoping for #2 but word is it's booked up so we're having to hope for a cancellation. #9 is the backup plan. Weather looks like it's going to cooperate so that's a relief. After finishing up at Pinehurst Friday I'll be meeting a different group of friends for a round at The Carolina Club near the Outer Banks Saturday. Should be a fun 4 days of golf.

1 birdie, 1 double

I blame the Stanley Cup for not sleeping last night. I missed a ton of short birdie putts.

43 (par 36). No birdies, 1 double bogey.

Only hit one bad shot, a duck hook into the water on the last hole. Otherwise, just a slog of mediocre chipping and putting.

Hybrid reshafting off to a promising start as I hit several good shots and no bad ones with the 6h. I'm going to have to get the 4h regripped, the one on the used shaft I bought isn't good.

Haven't been posting many rounds here as I've mostly been toiling between low 80's to low 90's for the last month or so, but had a bright spot yesterday.

40-38-78 (par 72, 72.8/134 from 6500 yards). My best score ever!

Did it in fashion too, with birdies on 16, 17 and 18 in pretty windy conditions.

Chipped in for 2 on 16, was greenside in 2 on the par 5 17th, and then wind took my tee shot on 18 waaay left onto the 1st fairway. Then hit probably my best iron of the year, nutted a 6 iron dead into ~2 club wind from 168 to about 6 feet and made the slider. Felt great and I didn't know I had shot 78 til after, guess not knowing made it easier.

I actually whistled when I read birdie on 16 17 18. Quality ****.

I also averaged near 1.2 strokes per hole in the past few months. I’m awesome at making bogey. I’m aware that my poor short game is holding me back from scoring well, but it’s still my first year back, so I got that going for me.

Nice! I think you're right about it being a good way to go low (whatever that may be to a player). A lot harder to have a career best front nine, realize it and hold on. Best to just go nuts at the end, right Scott?

Ha, sadly it was only a 6.8 index for me and I'm ~10 so it hasn't dropped it much. I will try to keep this late season train rolling though.

8 - fairway, short hook next to greenside bunker, pitch to 20 feet and 3 putts (+1)

4/6 fairways, 6 greens, 16 putts

7/13 fairways, 13 greens, 30 putts, even par

42-43-85. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys. 71.3/133/6400 yards

Cold, wet conditions made the yardage a bit much. There were at least five par 4s that I couldn't reach in regulation. Basically was just a bogeyfest, if there was a way to make one I did it.

42-39 81 yesterday. Pretty uneventful. 10 pars 7 bogies and an ugly double. Solid off the tee crappy with irons and pitching and the putter bailed me out for a lot of pars from 3-10 feet.

Walked 9 with my gf this morning as we just got her a push cart - solid maiden voyage. We played a scramble and we were both pretty awful off the tee and had almost no good looks at birdie. +2 - she also switched to left hand low putting today (well last 3 holes yesterday) and so far so good. She was rolling it really well.

Total lol rounds this weekend:

Saturday:
42-37 = 79. I've shot better, but haven't PLAYED better in recent memory. Putting was on, hitting the ball straight, knocking down wedges...front nine I was one over through 5 before an unfortunate flop from the above the green over a trap caught a steep slope into a stymie area (I thought I hit it perfect), then I rushed a 1.5 footer for double. Next hole the culprit was the sand for another double.

Sunday: 46-45 = 91.
So after Saturday's round I hung out for a couple drinks like I usually do, but then went to a golf buddy's bar that he just bought....from there my wife met me, and we ended up at another buddy's house. Long story short: I was hungover as **** Sunday. I wouldn't have gotten out of bed, except I had declined this guy's invite a few times before and didn't want to bail, so there I was at 8:00. I CANNOT play hungover. My game is all short game, and I just have zero touch when I'm hungover. I was shanking wedges, jamming putts....it was ugly.

Short hungover anecdote: several years ago as a young lawyer I went to my first lawyer conference. Shortly before I was invited by one of the more prominent lawyers at the conference to be one of his "ringers" for the conference tournament (I was a 5 or 6 at the time, but that still says more about the other players than me....). We had a practice round set for Friday (tournament was Saturday), and I had gotten about as drunk as I've ever been the night before. I pull up next to him at the driving range at like, 1:00, and just hit shank after shank after shank. You could tell he was less than impressed. I managed to pull it together, and despite getting drunk again the night before (I mean, it WAS a law conference after all), we won the tournament.

Coda: I have now learned there are tons of articles about golfing while hungover, and not ALL of them are selling a product. I particularly enjoyed this quote from a UK publication:

"Now, the most obvious way to prevent a hangover is to not drink so much the night before. Clearly this is unrealistic."
