Played 13 holes with the wife yesterday +5.

1 birdie, 1 double

We saw 5 deer, which is like even par for the wife.

Ha. You should come out and play Astoria sometime. Is Malice still around? We never did get that group together.

8/1
Sun City South Course
39-35 - 74, Par 72 71.7/118 6813 yards

Followed up a birdieless +3 on the front with a two birdie -1 back. Sprayed the driver all over the property and missed A LOT of greens, but scrambled great. Eight 1 putts. Took a few notes along the way since I never seem to remember much detail after the round...
-nice bunker shot on #1 to 5' to save par
-missed a 5' birdie putt on #2(short 305 yd par 4)
-missed a 6' par putt on #3
-bogey from middle of fairway and 100 yards out on #4
-made a 15' par putt on #5
-missed green on #6 by less than a foot
-missed 20' birdie putt on #9
-made a 15' par putt on #11
-made 25' birdie putt on #12
-7 iron on 164 yd par 3 #17 to less than a foot

8/2
Palm Valley North/South
40/39 - 79, par 72 71.2/126 6590 yards

Had my first triple in a while and without a penalty stroke. Hit some of the worst shots in recent memory. Complete clunkers but they stayed in play and I scrambled well again. Lots of up and downs from around the greens and at least 5 putts made outside 8'. On a tighter course I would've been in the mid 90s easily.

Working on finalizing my first golf trip in 9 years. Flying back to NC to meet up with a buddy then drive to Pinehurst for a few days. I'm not sure how many, if any, actual Pinehurst courses we'll end up playing, but we're hoping to play #2 if we can get on. Pine Needles and Mid Pines are two we're almost certain to play. The flight is booked and we're working on the Airbnb now. September 29 can't get here quick enough.

41-41-82. 11 of 14 Fairways, 6/18 GIR. Course management, driver, and short game were my standouts. They also happen to be the things I'm working hardest on

he's still posting his elite steak cookery in the steak thread every now and again.
we totally should, although it not happening in the past was 100% on me. didn't find or make time to play for the entire month of july. made some range trips but just haven't been able to get my priorities sorted.

Where is Astoria?

about as far as you can go in the northwest corner of Oregon, right before you cross the Astoria-Megler bridge over the Columbia River into Washington. a bit less than 2 hours NW of Portland.

3 birdies, 3 doubles

Had my first shank in as long as I can remember, probably in the neighborhood of 15 months or so. Had 126 into a light breeze and with the front pin position I knew I wasn't getting there with my 50*. Tried hitting a really light wedge, and right into the water. Almost salvaged bogey but the 20 footer lipped out.

43 (par 36). 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys.

Played the par 5s well, otherwise like complete ass. Inland links style course and the wind was blowing, it was rough out there.

Jealous. Didn't get to make my annual trip in April. End of September should be fantastic time to be there.

For about 2 seconds we considered going in mid November to save a few bucks, but for the $300 it would've saved me I'll take the better time of year. Plus I don't want to wait that long now that we've committed to going, haha.

42 on the back nine of AGCC. Started off with a double on a par 3 (down in the ditch, over to the bunker), so I'll take it.

I've stepped a bit closer to the ball (like, uncomfortably close for me) the last couple of rounds and my control has improved significantly. I don't SEEM to have lost much distance. We'll see if it continues.

Related aside: golden hour golf is the best.

standing a little closer is one of the quick things i try when things start to go off the rails...seems to help most of your time.

I've had to learn to appreciate windy golf since moving to the coast, but I still don't like it. I really don't have a wind ball in the bag, especially with my driver, so those holes where the wind is in my face play difficult.

for some sadistic reason i love really windy golf. play around with taking your normal backswing and then hard-stop your follow through about halfway from normal to see where that gets you. with a little practice i've found it pretty easy to hit low punchy shots with either right or left bias while doing it.

I love the Bandon Dunes 30-40 mph wind. I really hate the 15 mph Florida wind.

36-38-74

4 birdies, 1 double

Played the front well, with the exception of a 3-putt bogey from about 20 feet. Started the turn with a double but followed it with birdie, birdie. Two more bogeys coming in. All around not too bad. Up and down game was good. Putting except for that one hole was very good.

Reinforced by watching major golf played on the left coast...can’t think of a better atmosphere.

lol golf

33-41-74

Started out on fire with 4 birdies on the front. Birdie putts were 10,1,1,1 feet. The 3 1 footers were approach shots from 49y, 106y, 49y and 51y.

Back 9 not so good. Started with a bogey on a bad chip. Somehow i pulled my 54* instead of my 60*. Over the chip I thought it looked odd but didn't put the picture together, til I put the club back on the bag, d'oh. Was back to even when I managed to chip in to an elevated green while in the bushes, go figure. Then finish bogey, double.

One day I will put it all together again.

Solid front. Is -4 your lowest 9 is did you fire lower with that ridiculous finish a few weeks ago?

Two day Colorado Golf Association Western Chapter Championship this weekend. 36 holes and I’m one of the higher indexes in the event but I’m trying to get my game to show up in tournaments so that means playing in tournaments. My irons wedges and putting have been solid the last month. Long game is hit or miss but I think I’ve got something I can work with if the driver won’t cooperate. Course will play longer than I play for my normal rounds and this course is a little tight but we’ll see what happens.

Solid range session today. Didn’t over do it. Just hit some shots and got real loose. Will be 95*+ both days this weekend so the push cart will have the umbrella out - which means I hope the wind stays down.

Going to really focus on my process and tempo this weekend. If my preshot routine and setup is good and I don’t over-swing I should have a good weekend.

To sound like a broken record.

34-38-72

4 birdies, 4 bogeys

Started with an lol bogey on #1. Then go on a 3-3-3-3 stretch on #3-6 (3 birdies). Make the turn -2. Sand save on #11 by making a 25 foot downhill double-breaker. Nut my drive on #13 and hit the speed slot (read: cart path) for a nice 360y drive in the 504y par 5. Have 144y in and hit PW to 12 feet. Downhill slider not close, birdie and -3. 14 is a par 3 and I hit it to 3 feet......and i ****ing miss it, and the collapse starts.

15 I have 132y in and play for a flyer which never ****ing happens when you are steep on the iron and hit it off of the top of the face. Leave 10y short and chip it to 8 feet below the hole, miss, bogey. 16 I hit a high heel driver and am behind a tree. Hit a really good running shot to green high, chip it to 7 feet but have a downhill slider, miss, bogey. 17 I miss the green, have 10 feet for par, leave it on the lip, bogey. Par 18.

Cliffs: Should have been -4 thru 14. I throw up on shoes, shoot even par.

One highlight I forgot to mention. Birdied the 5th hole which is the last of the 36 I had left to birdie this year. Holed out a bunker shot.

43-44-87. No birdies, 2 double bogeys. 70.3/130/6200 yards

Got the doubles out of the way on #2 and #3, early ball striking was poor. Stablizied but didn't hit many greens. Chipping is a little improved with a different technique, putting was abysmal.
