Bunch of rounds last week for a golf trip.

Kananaskis Mt Kidd - 80, two birds (66.2/123)
Pagoda Ridge - 88 (69.0/118)
Redwoods - 88 (70.3/124)
Northview Canal - 83, one bird (68.8/119)
Northview Ridge - 90, one bird (69.2/124)
Meadow Gardens - 99 (70.5/124)
Morgan Creek - 84, one bird (69.8/131)
Hazelmere - 85 (69.7/122)

First time on all of these courses (except for Kananaskis), surprisingly had not played any of them in the lower mainland of BC. All nice tracks (Hazelmere is garbage really) and played pretty blandly consistent across all of them except for MG where I blew up.

Back at home now and looking forward to playing courses at 4000 ft instead of sea level. My distances were so friggin' off.

This goes squarely in the "Variance" department: I've been injured and not playing for 90% of the past two years. Got back into it, essentially healthy, this year and was frustrated with my swing so I took a couple of lessons. Swing is getting into shape, but my short game (which usually saves me), was HORRIBLE, and I had a streak of the worst rounds I've had in years. Then, with not practice or change, or anything, it flipped. I mean, not to GOOD, but to something I can live with. Last few rounds:

93
94
90
91
84
85
80

Stupid game.

To throw in a non-scoring related brag, I'm playing more because I'm playing two days at Bandon next month. Would prefer to be on the better end of things.

nice work Porter. been too long since we've seen you 'round these parts.
four rounds in two days? would be interested to read your trip report in the Bandon thread, especially if you're playing the Sheep Ranch and post some pics.

I was hoping for four, but playing partners can't get down early enough so we're playing Pacific Dunes the first day, then Bandon Trails/Sheep Ranch the next. I've played Pacific and while I'm excited to play it again, was hoping to try Bandon Dunes (although I've heard from several it's their least favorite), but it's the US Am that week and it's closed. Can't complain, we're playing under a $155 per round schedule. No lodging on-site, unfortunately, so won't be the "whole" experience. But forced me to save a bunch of money on lodging.

interesting about the BD opinion as being the least favorite, typically that's reserved for Old Mac (very polarizing 'cause it's the most links like) or Trails (can't see the ocean).
$155 that time of year is a deal.
guessing you already have a hotel booked, but if you don't the Bandon Inn has very reasonable prices and you can walk down the hill to old town Bandon for restaurants at night. I've stayed there probably half a dozen times.

I miss Bandon so much. It's been 9 months since I was last there!!!!

36-37-73

2 birdies, 3 bogeys

1 3-putt bogey, 5 up and downs

CLOSING -1 over the last 4

7/18
Sun City Riverview
40-38 - 78, Par 72 69.8\119 6336 yards

No birdies again, 1 double, a couple 3 putts. Didn't drive the ball quite as well as last Saturday, and didn't hit a lot of great iron shots, but scrambled pretty well. A few nice up and downs from around the green kept my score down. Super easy course that I should break 80 on a majority of the time.

7/19
Arizona Traditions
37/34 - 71, par 70 68.2\112 6073 yards

3 birdies, no doubles, no 3 putts. A MUCH better round. Had a few real nice up and downs to save par after bad drives/approaches, but also failed to save par a couple times from just off the green. All 3 birdies came the same way - approach shots from inside 60 yards to 18-36 inches. Missed a few birdie putts from inside 15' but also made a couple par putts from outside 20'. After opening with a birdie I fell back to 2 over through 5 but got rolling from there. On the back I had 2 birdies to 1 bogey(the 460ish yd par 4 12th that I almost never par) but left a couple shots out there imo. Best round I've had in a while so I walked away extremely happy.

After playing such short courses over my last 3 rounds I've definitely seen an improvement in my wedge game. So many of the par 4s play 375 or less so I end up with SW/AW/PW into most of the greens and I've done better at controlling my distance. Looking forward to getting out again both days this weekend to, hopefully, keep improving.

All the little inns looked the same, so booked Inn at Oldtown. It's one night, so hard to ruin the trip if it's bad.

43. No birdies, no double bogeys.

Just a bogeyfest. Screwed up one thing on pretty much every hole. Was putting and chipping pretty well a few weeks ago but both have abandoned me.

9-hole 2-man scramble with my father. Came in wanting to shoot even par or better. We shot -1, with 2 birdies. Had about 5 missed opportunities in 8-15' range, 4 of which included one of us hitting our putt on line but 3-6 inches short.

Was a really cool & enjoyable experience compared to the 4 or 5 man scrambles I've played historically.

37-35-72

3 birdies, 3 bogeys

Very smooth, never in trouble all day. Could have made a few more birdie putts.

Won the shootout in my club’s 3 day member guest last weekend. My index is the lowest it’s ever been at 8.0 so we were prob a flight higher than we really could have been. I’ve been playing well though. Partners been having a rough time though, so expectations weren’t all that high.

Our BB flight matches I shot 38-41-42-37-34. Most holes were on me but partner found some clutch spots to help. Final match I was -3 thru 17 and bogeyed 18. Needed every bit of it since opponents shot a BB 37. Won our flight by 1/2 point and got the job done in an 18 team shootout. Partner came through in the clutch playing 17-18 even par when were heads up, two hole aggregate. I think playing those holes 3x on the weekend he maybe managed to par 18 once.

I haven’t stopped smiling since Sunday night.

Congrats! How many side eye looks did you get when and 8 HC carded a -2?

Thanks. To be clear it was -2 through a 9 hole match on the back, which may be slightly less eye-opening with the smaller sample size of holes, depending how you look at it. That said there were some sideways glances for sure.

No question I played way over my head, and luckily it was at the absolute perfect time.

37-44-81. 2 birdies, 3 double bogeys. 67.6/121/5740 yards.

Hemlock GC, Ludington, MI. I've only played it once before. Paired with guys playing up a set of tees, so I played those, which was fun until my short game went AWOL on the back. Even though the yardage is short it's very much target golf, I hit a lot of 4h off the tees.

Playing like crap lately. Lost my match on 17 this morning, but then I scored a 2 on this 438 yard par 4 to finish the round. Highly recommended, would do it again.

41-45-86. 1 birdie, 4 double bogeys.

That might have been the worst short game display in recorded history. All four double bogeys were of the two chip/pitch then two putt variety and on at least one of them that's with the first putt coming from the edge of the green/just on the fringe. Putting wasn't very good but the chipping was just embarassing. Absolute waste of a decent ball striking day.

After shooting a forgetful 86 yesterday, I went out in a blistering 32 front nine this morning and limped home to a personal best by one stoke (at the same track) 72! It's been 4 years since I shot the 73 and today caught me by surprise big time. Eagled 1 from the fringe, hit it to 2 feet on 3 for birdie, 3 straight birds on 6,7 and 8. I started to get really tense by 16 and ended up doubling it and then getting a gale force wind for 1 hole on 18 and bogeyed that. Well chuffed with that one!
