if there's a threat of lightning you have to nope out

Exactly. Probably wasn't going to go -6 over the last five holes anyway.

I have had too many close calls with lightning in my days. Now I am usually the first to say nope. I remember it starting to rain on the 15th hole of my course a decade plus ago. Driving back in the rain we were on the right side of the fairway and a bolt hit just across the street on the left side. Big nope for me.

39-41-80

2 birdies, 1 double

Just didn't have it today. Was scared at first to go after shots. Been battling a stiff neck since the end of my last round. Add in just a little more wind and my irons are not as precise. 9 GIR (just 3 on the back) make all the difference.

Edit: I need to learn to grind more after I get off to a bad start. Doubled #1 today.

41-38 79; 10 pars 2 doubles, 5 bogies and an eagle. 1 ball round which is the best and exactly what i need to get down to the low 80s/break 80. The game wasn't too sharp, actually - but my misses were in play so it didn't matter that I only got up and down once on the 8 missed greens.

230-ish yard hybrid to 3 feet for the eagle. I hadn't eagled a par-5 in a while; my last two eagles were short par-4 hole outs - so good to convert 3 solid shots on a par 5. And I say 230-ish because once my GPS watch says more than 205 to the center I don't bother with shooting the flag.

It was a practice round for a two-day tournament this weekend; looking forward to playing competitive rounds. I've done a lot of swing work over the winter and this spring so far along with finally learning to hit and practicing partial wedge shots so I'm excited to test it all.

Played the front 9 of my life today on our par 60. Even after first 5 holes (birdie, 3 putt bogey, par, par, par) then absolutely **** the bed on the back 9 (really the back 11) and forgot how to swing a club.

Killer was the 10th hole is a par 4 with a narrow fairway. I smartly hit a wood instead of my driver which always goes right and landed in the fairway but further away. Hit my 6 iron off the perfect fairway and duffed it. Then kept finding the rough the rest of the round and couldnt hit out of the rough. The front 9 was so fun though and those first 5 holes I felt like a real golfer.

i've found golf, in many ways, is all about the search for your potential.
you might find it in the span of a single swing on the range when you hit the purest 7i of your life.
or you might find it on the course while stringing together several solid shots in span of a particular five holes that just seem to suit your game.
doesn't matter the reason, golf teases you with the results.

1 birdie, 2 doubles

Putted like absolute ****. Missed 4-5 birdie putts inside of 15 feet. Also had 2 3-putt bogeys. Greens were way slower than normal, they are getting the aeration treatment starting Monday.

34-36-70. No birdies, 1 double.

Alas, just a nice par 60 executive in vacationland. Ball striking is improving, irons much more consistent.

Doesn't matter. You still hit the shots. Nice work Booker.

46-41-87 on Monday, managed to birdie 18. Crushing driver so far this year and it continued here, mostly my approaches were poor. Need work on 75-150 yards out at the range.

38 (par 35) on Thursday night. All par/bogey. Ball striking sublime. Missed a decent amount of putts, some poor approaches.

39-44-83 yesterday, 2 birdies. First round of the year that my swing felt a bit wonky. Hottest round of the year so I think fatigue also set in a bit. All the same managed to patch together pars/bogeys mostly when things went awry.

Pretty happy, about 8 rounds worth of golf in my game is in a good spot so far this year. If I can continue to hit driver this well I should have some good rounds in store.

Ugh. 37-47 - 84

went as well as possible for 11 holes then as poorly as possible for 5 of the last 7.

comfy bogie on #1. Low bad tee ball; lay up. Green two putts. Then pars from 2-9 with a couple of lucky breaks and got up and down 3 times including from 115 yards after a penalty shot on a par 5. Would have been nice to make a few of the birdie putts but overall the front was running over expectation especially as I only hit 2/7 fairways.

then stripe a drive on 10 hit a sand wedge to 4 feet and make the birdie to get to even. Not a spot I’ve ever really been in a tournament. Was feeling the nerves from then on.

11 is a short par 5 (the one I eagles Thursday). Hooked 3w bad lay up poor wedge but got up and down. Okay!

12 hit a chunked hybrid off the tee on a shorter 4. Had 6 iron in instead of usually a wedge or 9 at most. Hook it into the junk. Don’t get up and down double. Then stripe a 7-iron on a par 3 just past the flag, 20-25 feet. Hit the putt too hard and miss the 3 footer coming back. Bogie.

Chunk push another hybrid tee shot on a shorter hole and have an awful lie and try to do too much. Hit it into some junk put can swing. Over the back of the green, chip is then too hard but make a 12 footer for bogie.

15 is one of nemesis holes. Pulled my drive left and I’m under a tree but have a swing and clear look and good angle - but 200+ yards out and into the wind. Hit a weak push 5-iron and then the worst chip of the day and don’t even get it on. Chip up and 3 putt from 18 feet for triple. Oh no!

16 is an uphill par 3 with wind in and off the right. Hit another awesome 7 iron to 15 feet and barely miss birdie. Few, a par.

17 is a par 5 into the wind. Driver just left of the fairway. 9 iron to get into position and my wedge flies a little too far and I’ve got 30 feet down hill. Hit an awful first putt - this is my home course and I misread this by 3 or 4 feet. But roll the 5 footer in for par. Okay. 7 over. I can make a par on 18 for 79 and that’ll be great.

OB left (almost hit the *******s house again). OB right. **** this hole. In play with my 5th shot. But a long way back. Bunker. Don’t get up and down. 9 on #18.

ugh. So mentally weak and unable to hit hard tee shots when it matters. That and two missed putts at 3 feet or just inside really hurts.

still okay for my flight. 6 back net and gross of a guy I played with. Will need to break 80 tomorrow to end In the money I’d guess (conditions and pin locations dependent). Course was set up on the easier side today and the wind was light. So it’s a bummer to have played so poorly down the stretch

improve what happened on 15 and 18 and you have a solid score. your game doesn't suck, you had two bad holes.

Speaking of 2 bad holes....

35-39-74

3 birdies, 2 doubles

Bad tee shot to water, bad approach, double. Other was a bad tee shot to water, bad approach double. The lone bogey on the day was a 3-putt. 13 GIR.

43-46-89 today, not pretty. Zero birds, just didn't have an A-game in any area really. Windy, rainy, then hot and humid weather didn't help much either.

were the two bad tee shots a result of risk/reward variance or bad strikes?
were the two bad approach shots a result of trying to get it all back in one shot or bad strikes?
and once again it looks like you skipped your snack at the turn.

46-46-92. No birdies, 4 doubles, 1 triple.

I really shouldn't play the blue tees anymore but did so since the guys I was paired with were. Ball striking was poor today, not very many good shots.

38-43 81. Snuck into the flight money.

I was poor off the tee all day and most of the day with ball striking. Felt tense nervous and afraid instead of just swinging. But scrambled well again - and made 3 birdies. Hit 4 fairways today and 3 yesterday. So considering the poor tee game it was a solid weekend.

Back to casual rounds and money game for a few week and another 36 hole stroke play event middle of July, I think.

Bad strike on the first one (11th hole). Before the round I turned down my hybrid from 19* to 18*. It's all mental but I was just not confident over that tee shot and shoved it waaay left with a slice. 3rd shot is still blocked by a tree and I had to go low with it from 170y. Funny I thought about the turn snack AFTER I hit that tee shot. Went to by bag and grabbed my cashew snack pack.

The tee shot on 15 I tee the ball high for a 3 wood and swing up significantly on it to go over the trees. I left the face open and it rode the wind into the water. Also on the range I noticed that either the ferrule is slipping or the shaft is slipping out of the club. This is the only place I hit it on the day and it def messed with me when I was over the ball. The approach was from 148 and I tried a small fix to reduce the cut into the wind. Hit it dead straight into the bunker (was still playing for a slight fade).

EDIT: Oh, and I'm setting the hybrid back to the settings I am used to

38-37-75

3 birdies, 1 double

Ball striking was really good today especially into the wind. The double was on 18 where a topped the ball OB. How the **** does a 2.7 cap top a ball OB!!!! All mental right now. As soon as I get that next under par round it's all gonna snowball from there.

Oh and putting was not great today either. Probably missed a half dozen birdie putts inside of 15 feet. Even missed 2 of them in the 3-4 foot range. The one that hurt the most was the 5th (one of the 2 I have not birdied yet). Hit it into the fairway bunker (again) and had 174y left. Hit a beautiful 7 iron to 4 feet, then missed it.

I stone topped 2 balls in tournaments off the tee last year and shot under par in both those rounds, if it makes you feel better.

Golf is a funny game. Played my par 60 today with a buddy and got paired with 2 old ladies. I felt like I played terrible compared to last round which I was even after 5 holes (a huge feat for me) and ended up with an 82. Today I never felt like I hit a ball that great and didn't have any birdies and ended with a 79. Crazy how it's just avoiding blow up holes and you can improve upon the rounds you probably played better but blew up on 2 or 3 holes.

Also I'm obsessed with getting the first tee time of the day now. What a game changer. For some inexplicable reason first tee time is 6am on weekends but not til 7am on weekdays in our county
