Haha. The fact that I'm worse than a bogey golfer didn't clue you in to the fact that I don't get out much?

I live in New Hampshire so I have like 10 weeks of decent weather left. More to the point, my wife and I both work retail and we have an infant son so it's rare I have a day off where I'm not watching the kiddo.

Now the fact I didn't play more in my twenties annoys me

42-44-86. No birdies, 3 double bogeys.

A new course to me. Ball striking inconsistent. Made a putter change and figured a few things out late.

46-40-86

79 gross and 67 net in our tournament. Struggled to get off of the tee a lot. Irons were actually really good. Putting was beyond bad.

Bogey the first hole of the day when I hit the middle of the fairway and pick up mud on the ball. Next shot went sailing way left because of it. Then nearly get to green on the par 5 second hole with an 8 iron 2nd shot. Chip it to 2 feet and managed to not even hit the hole with the putt.

I understand playing the ball down but

a) this was not a serious tournament
b) we have had 35.5 inches of rain in the last 6 weeks (none in the last 2.5 days however)
c) at least play lift clean and place in your own fairway. You should never be punished like that for hitting fairways.

There are certain parts of the course that can't be mowed. I hit into one of them, found it plugged. Dropped 2x and it plugged both times.

39-38-77

1 birdie, 13 pars, 2 bogeys, 2 doubles

totally agree scott. if a fairway ball has mud on it in early august then you should be able to clean it.

45-46-91. 2 birdies, 3 double bogeys, 1 triple, 1 quad.

Positives - some of the best irons I've hit all season. Putted decently.

Not so good: Tee balls, chipping, pitching, sand game. Had a two way miss going with the driver. Also managed to double hit a sand shot ... twice on the same hole. FML.

48-54-102

Trying to be happier about this than I am. Normal course I play had no early tee times so I went to a course I haven't played in seven years and it's much tougher than I'm used to. 69.3/128 course/slope vs a 67.1/115. About 300 yards longer and greens like glass. Also whoever set the pin placements must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Seemed like every hole was in the shallowest part of the green and guarded by bunkers. I bet I had 45 putts today and a lot of it was my own incompetence but I also had to play super conservative getting to the greens so I definitely left myself long putts.

Still hoping to get out twice more.

a quirky course played for the first time. five par 5s (only two over 500 yds), five par 3s (the longest 160yds), and six par 4s under 320 yards. the course's defense is lots of severe doglegs combined with steep elevation changes on the approach to small greens surrounded by hazards. at least half a dozen holes you could be 125 out and barely see the top of the flag. most of the par 3s played way downhill, except the 160 one that was way uphill.

40 (par 35) yesterday. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys.

Played unusually well for a Tuesday. Tee balls shaky but irons very on point and putted well.

I played a 4 rounds since my last post. I wasn't ecstatic with my play, but I wasn't scoring poorly. Just grinding and spinning the wheels.

I played all those rounds with a work friend (who's also an actual friend), and he's about an 8. I'm about a 5.

I shot an 80 at the first three places. My buddy went 85, 83, 79.

1. Laurel View CC: 6900 yards, 73.6, 127 on Velcro slow greens.
2 doubles, 0 birdies

2. Lyman Orchards Jones Course: 6600 yards, 71.5, 131. 1 double, 0 birdies

3. Orange Hills CC: 6500 yards, 72.1, 130. 2 doubles, 0 birdies. Grinded pars like crazy on the second 9.


Yesterday, I played my buddy's home course, Timberlin Golf Club. 6500 yards, 71.3, 129.

I was hitting it well, but I missed so many short birdie putts. 6, 8, 10, and 12 foot birdie putts missed. If they were for par, I would have made them.

5-Three putts.
Tons of scoring opportunities.
I was tilting so hard.
I was close to 80 consecutive holes without a birdie and my buddy was mocking me hard (so was his mother and father in law who played with us).

I birdied the last two for 77. Stuffed a 9-iron on 17 and a Wedge on 18. Made about a 5-footer on 17 and a 1-footer on 18.

Felt good walking off 18.

35-36-71

Toe shank on approach on #1 nearly out of bounds but saved par. Tee shot on #2 into hazard, whiffed trying to hit it out, made double.

Eagle 3, Birdie 8 (12 feet for eagle) and 9, and a kick in birdie on 18 into a strong wind to shoot even par.

Teeing off for round 2 shortly, expecting to shoot 85.

I dunno if that's the technical term for it, but it has the trajectory of a shank but is actually off the toe instead of the hosel.

I little while ago I had an inside hosel shank. Like, it went 45 degrees to my inside, not outside like a typical shank. My normal mis-strike is heelside of the face but that was a biiiig miss. I just laughed, standing there going “what the f just happened!”

Short game was HORROR today. I hit 10 fairways and 9 greens (6 greens on the front 9) and shot 83 with 4 3-putts, it was an absolute joke. I struck the ball very well then couldn’t putt to save my life, when putting has been rock solid for me lately.

40-43-83 (net even)

2 birdies
5 pars
10 bogeys
1 triple

4 3 putts (37 all told)
10 fairways
9 greens
Somehow 0 thrown/broken putters

If I’d putted like normal I would’ve shot like 3 over but thems the breaks

44 - 40 = 84.

Club championships, entered for the first time. Easy Par 71 course. 6444y from the back. Some flags not in the easiest places but nothing very unusual.

First hole an easy par 4. Had 140y downhill and downwind and thought my 9i should be about right. It went just over the green and then promptly bounced another 40y to OOB, first time there and played the hole maybe 100 times. Carded a double. Then some bad short game and +7 through 6 holes, ouch. Picked it up and was +9 through 15 holes.

Then a superbad hybrid to left water, 3rd from tee which went into woods on the right side. 4th from there, 5th from fairway but a bit fuming so quick radar was not to pin but the stonewall 25y behind flag. Nice hit, so now had a downhill chip back with no hope so 3 more whacks and a fun 9 on a short par 4. Def more happy with play than the score, and fun to play. Tomorrow the tougher course, hope I avoid the disasters and play like 84 there too.

44-40 84 from the back tees 7,210 yards and 73.2/133. Hit 3 fairways and 6 greens. 3/12 up and in and made 8 pars total.

Played with my buddy who’s got his US mid-am qualifier Monday so he wanted to go back a set. I hadn’t played this tee since a tournament earlier this summer and I shot 96 both days so it was nice to play a decent round from the longer tees.

40-44-84. No birdies, 2 double bogeys.

I've been playing more lately. In the spring, I was playing poorly---90-95 every round. I took a lesson in late June. After the lesson I went 96, 90, 82! 99..........and then something clicked. Next few rounds:

I'm avoiding the triples and doubles. Hitting the ball more purely. Putting is erratic but overall I'm making better decisions on the course, and I feel like a new level has been reached. One of my 82 rounds included 37 putts (but the greens were punched).

GHIN Index has gone from 15.5 to 12.5. Hoping to get to a 10 and break 80 sometime soon.

47 - 49 - 98

Hahaha that tasted like a disaster. In the middle played 10 holes something that resembled golf, but first 4 and last 4 holes shot 19 over par muhaha. 4 putts, teeshots to forest, any possible miss and i did it. In the end it didnt even feel bad, just wanted to get out of there. Beginning felt like ****. Ended up 50/60th place, maybe could do a bit better next year, tough to do worse.

After beginning this summer and becoming obsessed playing multiple times a week I took a month off just from being busy. Played today and shot a 110 which for me is solid (and lost concentration on the last 3 holes) but most importantly hit almost all my irons well. For me well means made contact and drove the ball not top it. It was the first full round of making clean contact on almost all my iron shots. They didnt always go straight and my usually good putting was atrocious but it felt so good to consistently hit irons and has me excited to play again

nice job LFC....just try to get a little better the next time...and the next time after that.
