44-38-82 - Final Round GC Am Tour - Mission Hills CC - Dye Challenge

1 birdie, 10 pars, 5 bogeys, 1 double, 1 quad

I finished T29 one shot out of the money. The front 9 disaster started on the par 3 6th with a 4-putt double. I pulled the tee shot onto the wrong side of the saddle green and was left with 80 feet. First putt came up 25 feet short. 2nd putt I didn't keep high enough leaving me 4 feet. Missed that one too.

Next hole is a 450ish par 4 with water all the way down the left side of the hole. I cut it into the water. My drop was 260y away, think I could have dropped further up but wasn't sure. I then hit a horrid slice into the water and had to drop in the same place.

I was really happy with the way I came back though by shooting 38 on the back of a pretty tough course. I had a lot of good birdie looks but only was able to get one to fall on the day. Overall I am happy with the results, just wish I could have made a few better swings.

9 hole four man scramble from the senior tees tonight, -9. Winning score was -10. 1 par, 1 eagle. Happy to hit solid drivers -- working on staying connected seems to be helping.

37-45-82. No birdies, 1 double bogey.

Two radically different nines. Competent on the front, too many miscues (and overly aggressive chipping) on the back. Nobody out before us this morning, what a treat to play in just over 3 hours.

41-47-88

1 birdie, many doubles and one triple

3-club tournament. I flipped between putting with the 9 iron and the 58* based on distance. I putted pretty good some times, and also 3-putted about 4 times. I would switch to an 8 iron next time.

Shot 71-71-74 this weekend on a par 71 73.1/131 course in my state mid amateur. Hit it beautifully the first two days and missed 100 short putts (greens were very sketchy, but I got yippy). Today, I putted a little better but hit it like an *******.

Legit should have been 10 under after 2 rounds the way I was hitting it.

Looks like I'll end up around 15th, top 10 got basically into every tourney next year, so I'm frustrated I couldn't piece together a 70 or something today.

39-39-78. 1 birdie, no double bogeys. 6200 yards, 69.5/129.

Better ball striking day. Hit some drivers on the clubface, nothing awful. Putter let me down, had a lot of 10-20 footers for birdie and made none. Only bird was a tap in on a short par 5.

44-42-86

Ball striking is improving, but the short game is not. I was doing ok when things were dry, but the courses are sopping wet so I'm drawing some cuppy lies and I don't quite have the feel of those shots. I'm taking four from around the green way too often. To be fair, my lag putting is also a nightmare. Ten year layoffs with do that I guess.

I may have finally figured out what clubs to carry. A driver, 2-9I and 4 wedges. I was messing with various fairway woods and hybrids and then realized I was hitting the 2I better than anything else. Probably a mental thing, but so it goes.

So now I can look a bit more towards short game stuff.

I forgot to mention that I had the worst mud ball ever in this thing. I was 170 out on the 10th with a massive amount of mud in the left side of the ball. The ball actually moved out of the pitch mark by all of one inch.

Hit the ball and it was the biggest hook of my life, and I don't even own that shot, even with an overswing of a 9 iron. Hooked right into the lateral hazard.

I didn't play well today but I played behind an 83 year old who was playing the senior tees and he shot 35(par). He looks great, I thought he was maybe 70.

37 on a par 35 today. 6 pars, 1 double(water and knocked second ball to 5 feet but missed), 1 bogey, and a birdie. My best score in years and years.

Got an invite to play TPC River Highlands (where they play Travelers).

Forgot to take a pic of our scorecard but took an extra. I shot an 88. 48/40. No reason for the 48 on the front as it is super easy (as shown by Furyk dropping a 58 in total). Played from the farthest back they had set up. Not the tips.

They are transforming the clubhouse from 10ksq ft to 40ksq ft. It will be super impressive if they get it done by next June with the winter ahead. Their practice range is still some of the best I’ve had the chance to knock around though.


Course was superb. Thick rough. Great fast greens though they had been recently aerated.
I hit the Travelers umbrella but didn’t stick. 88 yard shot.

38 (par 35). 1 birdie, 1 double bogey.

Started out well, 1 under through six after getting up and down four holes in a row. Finish, not so good.

9 hole scramble from last evening, 23 players in 5 teams. Team shot -6 w/ 6 birdies, which tied for the lead, but lost out on tiebreakers. I made 2 of our birdie putts (10' downhill slider & 20'). Drives & full swing approaches were really good, <50yd pitch shots were abysmal until the final hole.

Birdie was on the last hole, a short par 5. Tee was up so it was only playing like 475. Had a great break off the tee where I pulled it a touch right and what I think happened is it glanced off of the trunk of a tree, hit the cart path, then jumped back in the fairway. I hit it good but not 142y left into the green good.

Cart paths can be good.

44-41-85

Hit the irons really well, probably the best I have all season. Short game especially putter still terrible. Driver erratic, hit a few nice draws mixed in with some snap hooks.

Probably another month or so of golf here in the northeast, hoping to get 4-5 more rounds in. Still on the quest to break 80. Hitting well enough to do it but the 3-puttsare killing me.

39-47-86. Frustrating one, played a super solid front 9 that could have been even better, then the back9 was littered with penalties and big numbers. Hit 5 approaches to 5', 10', 12', 15', and 18', but only made one birdie.

Finally ditched my interlock putting grip for a more traditional grip. Worked really well, no 3-putts, seemed to be more consistently on my intended line, even if that intended line is garbage.

+4 41 front 9 after the tournament finished at my new home course, playing the tips with some scary Sunday pins.

Happy with how I hit the ball, I’ve just added a TMB 2-iron to the bag and hit it really nice off the one tee-box it called for, plus a beauty stinger cut to get out of the rough on 6. Feels wicked hitting that thing out of the screws.

Big focus today was letting my weight transition be the core of my swing, and hitting through the ball as I can get a bit arms-y sometimes and don’t transition well, and I think i did it nicely for the most part.

If only I could do this a little more consistently in the rounds that matter!

Irons were absolutely on today and off the tee was good except for 1 tee shot where I went OB and still managed to make bogey.

I need more of days like this.

Over 5 putts from those distances a tour pro would gain 0.2 by making 2 out of the 5 - loses .8 by only making 1.

As a 10 index it's +.4 strokes gained by making 1...

Just to keep in mind; putting is super hard and lol-varience riddled. So don't get down on yourself on days when you feel like you hit it close but don't make anything.

I shot 42-40 82 yesterday and it was just kind of meh. Didn't hit it great didn't it it poorly. Except on the 18th - thinned driver but middle of the fwy - 8 iron in up the hill into the wind and I leave it short in the bunker - on the down slope. Shoots across the green - decent chip runs out, missed putt and boom double to turn 80 into 82.

Last tournament of the year next weekend. 2-man; best ball Saturday, scramble Sunday. Defending champs of the 1st flight below the scratch flight. Love the course; very interesting with the right amount of hazard/challenge.

I was more frustrated that 2 of them were lip outs, rather than that I only made one. I'm about a 12 index. Best of luck in your tournament.

9 hole alternate shot event today. Shot +6 with no birdies. I had the tee on four holes, went 2/2 fairways and 2/2 greens on par 3s (though in the 15-20 foot range), also made every putt I saw within 10 feet.

Sorry to hear that Booker. Sounds like a frustrating one. I've never played alternate shot, but it def seems like a daunting mental game challenge.
