37-36-73 (Par 68)

2 birdies, 2 doubles, 3 bogeys, 11 pars

Two of the par 5's were converted over to par 3's because of rain. Iron play was really good. No 3-putts.

I was +5 standing on the 5th tee box, so good recovery rest of the way.

80.

Hit a toe shank that bounced off a rock and onto someone's balcony, where the ball bounced up and down a good 10 times or so before it fell back down. Nice wakeup call for the neighbours.

Toe shank? Not sure I have ever seen one of those.

Nice round yesterday BTW.

I'm not sure if it's a commonly used term, but I'm talking about hitting it so far off the toe it takes off similar to a shank.

37-39-76. 3 birdies, 1 double bogey. 6/13 fairways, 8/18 greens, 28 putts

Best day with the putter in a long time. Everything was right around the hole, lots of putts right in the center. Felt good. Now if only I could learn how to chip and pitch consistently. Driver also kinda shaky.

This was on Saturday, but I don't count it until the official result is posted.

It was the only board competition we have in stableford format and the weather was terrible. The greens would have flooded except they had been spiked just 3 days earlier, so the water had somewhere to go. Our club goes out in two waves, one mid-morning and one around lunchtime, and the morning guys had the rain starting at a drizzle, but getting harder and harder until it was a downpour when we set off in the afternoon and they were on the back 9. Luckily the rain cleared up on the back 9 for us, and the greens were actually better for the rain as the holes were filled!

Front 9 - 11 points

Back 9 - 22 points, and my best back 9 for at least 7 years - never missed a makeable putt and never 3-putted.

Competition was a reductions-only due to the appalling weather and I won the competition on a card-playoff.

39 (par 35). 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys.

Mostly bad golf. Did hit it to two feet and made the putt on the last hole to leave on a high note. Will be making a driver change after hitting exactly one decent tee ball.

No score

Played 9 and was just missing around with various shots, playing 2 balls, etc. since our range and practice areas are closed with the rain. So no warm-up and it took a few holes to get the ball striking down again. Was really working on the last hole which is a par 5 converted to a 146y par 3 right now because of rain. Knocked it to 18 inches.

finally playing a lot again lately since I've been working from home all year. I have barely played the last 4 years or so, went from being club pres to not being a member. got all my new clubs in the bag.

Today shot 44-38 on a par 35. birdied 6 on the back and about had back to back birds but somehow the ball didn't go in on 7(25% was hanging over the lip). Got up and down twice for par in tough spots, once from 110 to 5 feet on 18 and to 2 feet from 75 yards on 3.

I was as low as a 9 handicap in 2010, then I got married and had kids.... trying to get back to that point.

driver is still worthless, been watching a lot of youtube vids from Rick Shiels and Clay Ballard.

This is exactly why I have been able to improve fairly fast. I can always go hit the range at lunch time for an hour or play 18 before the day starts.

I’m in Santa Monica and may have a chance to play tomorrow if I can find a course that’ll rent me decent clubs - anyone play around here that could give me some advice or want a playing partner tomorrow?

Decided not to play today. Had a great time driving across the US and lucky enough to get two rounds in, when I’d only anticipated one.
Played on my 30th birthday at the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe and shot 88 from the black tees.
46-42-88
Couldn’t get my rental driver going at all - it was so much heavier than I’m used to. Didn’t hit a fairway til the 10th, but I chipped and putted very well. I burned the cup with 3/4 bunker shots, and had a massive lip-out for birdie from just off the green with a wedge on the second.
Rough was quite heavy so the front 9 was a battle.
Played some really great wedge shots to scramble, including what I’d consider almost a lifetime highlight shot from deep in the rough underneath a bunker with the pin just behind that, on a green sloping away. Huge flop shot to 4 feet and made the putt. It was a great shot.

Also played at Continental Country Club in Flagstaff, AZ.
45-39-84
Again, struggled with rental driver on the front including water and OB off the tee on 1 & 3. This was a Ping G something which I really like, just struggled with swing to start.
Again chipped and putted great. Only hit 3/18 GIR and had 29 putts.
Drove the 318 yard 15th and two-putted for birdie.

All in all, really enjoyed my first experience playing golf in this country. My first time playing at altitude, too, as I live at sea level. Playing golf in the desert was a cool experience.

41-40-81. 2 birdies, 1 double bogey, 1 quadruple bogey.

First round of club championship. Had one hole where the neurons and the muscles just could not get on the same page (quad with no penalty strokes), otherwise played OK. Driver continues to be shaky and chipping awful. 8 shots back.

37-42-79 (sill a par 68)

1 birdie, 2 doubles

Driving was good, irons were pretty good, chipping bad and putting just terrible. I think I had 5 hard lip-outs when the ball wasn't even moving that fast. Thought I might have had my first career ace when it disappeared behind the pin, but was actually 6 feet behind the hole. Of course I lipped that putt out too.

35-43-78. 2 birdies, 1 triple bogey.

Ended up in second place, no surprise as I was pretty far back. Finally yipped a short putt and had two horseshoes on the back, otherwise putted very well this weekend. Driver continued to be awful and other clubs off the tee were pretty bad too. And it would be great if I could stop having one hole where my brain and muscles refuse to get on the same page.

42-42-84 - Mission Hills CC - Pete Dye Challenge Course

One of the hardest courses I have ever played. Not because of length but because there is water off of the tee on almost every hole. There is water to the left of the fairway/green on 10 holes and 2 to the right of the fairway. Those of you who know me you know what my ball flight is. That one is gonna be tough. It's the 4th round course of my tourney that starts Friday.

I did have one small highlight on the 367y par 4. I pulled my drive right of the fairway into tall grass. Unplayable I took a drop and then proceeded to hole out from 138y for a birdie.

38-37-75 - Rd 1 of GC Am Tour Nationals - Westin Mission Hills - Gary Player Course

3 birdies, 9 pars, 6 bogeys

Played pretty good. Putted decently compared to normal. Only had 1 3-putt as I didn't see the downhill before I hit it. Irons were pretty good. Off the tee was meh. Came 8 inches away from my first career ace. On line, just checked up short.

I'm sitting T13 out of 89 in the morning wave. Still 16 left to go this afternoon. Currently 4 shots back.

40-41-81. 1 birdie, 1 double bogey. 69.2/120 "links" style course.

Can't get off the tee except on par 3s. It's awful. I need to get this figured out. Wind was up, which made for a tough day. Chipped decently, putted OK.

38-38-76 (Par 70) - Round 2 of GC Am Tour Nationals - Westin Mission Hills - Pete Dye Resort Course

2 birdies, 10 pars, 5 bogeys, 1 triple

Made nothing on the greens. They were slow and bumpy in the afternoon wave. Drove the ball really well except for two swings. The triple was a fun one. 450y par 4 I push a tee shot left and hits a tree. Only have a pitch out to 140y. Then push the next shot into the water left of the green. Chip up and 2-putt for a quick triple.

Sitting T8 after round 2, 7 shots out of the lead.

Playing Mission Hills CC Dinah Shore Course tomorrow, a track that I like.

43-43-86 - Round 3 of GC Am Tour - Mission Hills CC - Dinah Shore

5 pars, 12 bogeys, 1 double

Was a rough one today. Kept getting in trouble and that course has some tall damn trees to where your only shot is a pitch back to the fairway. I only hit 4 greens all day and I 3-putted 2 of em. Wind kicked up on the back 9 and it was damn tough.

We played 18 at 618y into the wind. I hit two of my best 3-woods on the day and was still 126y out. As a reference the ladies play that par 5 at around 470y on the weekend.

43-44-87. No birdies, 4 double bogeys. 71.2/132, 6550 yards.

First four holes were okay, then the wheels fell off. Couldn't get a break - if there was a tree limb in the vicinity I hit it and the ball went straight down. Lip outs, you name it. Just one of those days. On the positive side, had several good chips.

Played set of old clubs for fun after drunken night of poker. I didn't drive to the club lol!

Persimmon woods and TP-9 irons.

Came in 3rd...
