Average round from me today.

Hit the ball great for the most part just didn't convert and had some sloppy errors.

I felt like I rolled the putter very well today however, I've noticed that when I'm over a putt I've found that I'm very easily distracted. This could be by someone making a slight movement and I catch it in my peripheral vision or when I'm over a putt my mind goes completely else where. I'm not a slow putter by any means but I think I'm going to try and get a bit quicker when over the ball. Sort of took this approach with the driver recently and just stepping up and hitting it.

Was a good walk today though Sun was out and felt like a good Spring morning.

This course should not of been open at all given how wet it is. They even allowed trollies on the course. I took one out on the 1st day but its much easier to carry so ended up carrying the 2nd day. Just to give you an idea you'd hit a drive down the fairway and there is a chance you'd lose your ball because it would get plugged. Given all this the greens were very good and pretty quick given how wet it was.

1st day went 38/43 - 81 +11

Started out pretty well with a Par and Birdie. The Par 3's were tough I think I went +3 on the front for Par 3's. Remember one on the front was about 170ish on the card but it was probably playing closer to 200 as how far it was up hill.

The back 9 went a bit meh think I was getting tired by that point basically bogey golf coming in.

We went in the club house to get a drink it was dead by the owner was there working behind the bar. He is a 86 year old and he said he plays off 11. Must say for a 86 year old he looked very very good for his age. After the drink they give us our keys to our rooms. We were staying in the Eco Pods just right of the driving range. I wasn't looking forward to this on the pictures they looked pretty tight and we were sharing and I'm a terrible sleeper but we opened it up and was surprised of how good it actually was. Here are the pods.

You had your own shower and toilet facilities about a 10 second walk from here which were also really nice.

After we all showered and stuff we decided to grab a taxi and go into town to eat. We found this local bar which was decent we stayed in it all night and me personally had one to many drinks ... I think we get back to the pods about midnight and we all chilled for a bit in my pod till about 2am. As said I'm a terrible sleeper with drink as well made it was horrible I think I probably got about a hours sleep at most. When I did finally get up the hangover was terrible. I got up and went to the shower and just put it on really hot and was in there for about 20mins. Felt better once I come out of it. Me and my room mate went to grab breakfast as the other 2 weren't up. I knew I wouldn't be able to eat much so I just ordered something simple which was a bacon and sausage bap. We were sat down and she put in on the table and I looked down at it and was like I know I can't eat this, I would of ended up just throwing up. Took one bite out of it and was like na this isn't happening but felt bad for leaving it. Thankfully my mate who is a big lad just said I'll have it whilst eat his full English breakfast

So after breakfast we get onto the course. I think everyone was feeling it a bit so we decided to do a 2v2 better ball just to keep it easy.

I went round in 41/39 - 80 +10, I was quite surprised I was able to hit the ball that day. Me and my team mate one 2up on the last. He is a 25+ handicapper and on the last hole he hit the final shot to about 5 feet on the par 3 missed the birdie though

Packed up got in our cars and drove home. I was so tired and hungover this drive wiped me out. Got home ordered out ate about 1/4 of it and just went to bed around 7pm and woke up at like 8am today. Best nights sleep ever.

This place is call Rodway hill in Gloucester in the UK. I personally probably wouldn't go back as its a long drive for average golf course. However, for price we got it at was a steal I think we paid £72 for the pod for the night which included Breakfast and unlimited golf. If I were to go back it would have to been in good weather. What would be good is to rent out all the Pods and have a load of you go up there and have a BBQ after.

We have another golf trip planned later this year going back to the place we went to last year. I've made sure I get my own room this time. I'm done drinking though like I'll have the odd beer or 2 but not going to get myself drunk anymore.
nice write-up

Golf looking like it was getting cancelled today we had a cracking day yesterday and after that it just rained on us. Woke up in the morning course was closed. They did manage to open it up at 12:30 though and the course was actually drained pretty well.

We were the 1st to go off. We had a 4 ball but another one of our friends showed up so we spoke to the person in the club house and she said if you're quick then go as a 5 ball, We are pretty quick when we play so there wasn't any worry about that.

So we play 1 and 2 fine, We tee off on 3 which is back down towards the club house. The group behind us gets to the 2nd tee and we are walking by them as they do. So they've probably lost 10-15min already on us. We get to the 3rd green and they ring up the club house saying we can't do that ... I could understand if we were holding them up but its a bit petty. We split on the next tee. We play 4 and 5 see them and they are not even on the 3rd green. Was quite annoying as everyone was having a good chat and having a bit of fun.

I was +3 on the 8th, Birdie 9th and then Birdie the 12th. 13 and 14 are Par 3's I went double double all down to chip shots. The other 2 I was playing with went off after the 14th I decided to play on and just have a bit of practice. Was pretty nice I was able to hit a lot of balls chips/pitches/full shots and putts.

16th is 100ish yard par 3 off the matts. I hit 7 balls 1 went short into the bunker. The rest ended up like this which was pretty nice.

Annual spring trip last weekend. No additional warmup other than the 9 holes played the first weekend of the month.

Thursday: 43-41-84. 1 birdie, 5 doubles bogeys
Friday: 40-43-83, no birdies, 3 doubles. 40 on the third nine with a birdie.
Saturday: 39-43-82. no birdies, 3 doubles. 41 on the third nine with a birdie and a quad.
Sunday: NFI. Card probably said mid-80s, but I played like a 30 hcp.

First nine on Saturday was definitely the best stretch. Opened with five pars, bogeyed six 'cause I can't reach it in regulation, parred seven and eight. And then in a fine display of mental midgitude I doubled nine to take some of the shine off.

Most parts of the game were "okay" but not great. Lost way too many shots to penalties. Topped a few the first day. Chipping was hot and cold. Same for putting. Distance still way down, but that's no surprise.

I am definitely curious to see if I am done with golf shoes, at least on hilly courses and when it's not wet. I brought two pairs, wore one the first day and the other the second day (first 18). Ouch. So much pain. Just wore non-golf sketchers the rest of the way and had no foot problems.

Played my second stroke play tourney Sunday. Was dealing with some foot/heel pain that wasn't fun at all.

Played generally well, good mental game again, had to hit a provisional and piped it, but found the drive in bounds. Then had to drop after a laced 5w just cut enough to make water, and was hitting a 50 yard pitch and hit it to 6 feet.

But then got a bit rattled, there had been pace of play issues at this course before with this tourney and so they really were emphasizing and then we got a warning that we were "12 minutes behind" (we were 4 minutes behind the target time for that hole on our time scorecard) and then as we turned to play our final two holes (it was a shotgun, we started on 3), they said we had 20 minutes left, despite being 30 minutes from the time on the time scorecard, which was 10 minutes less than the emails ahead of the tourney said).

So I rush myself and block a drive into the trees, take a provisional and block it right there again. Find only the provisional, make a 9, and really was boiling after, especially when we waited 5 minutes on the next hole to hit our approaches.

Learning experience though, and ended up T3 in my 9 man flight and got a prize, which I never expected with my 98, net 80 haha. Would have been solo 3 with an 8 instead of 9 pffsstt. Also completely wasted two strokes on chips where i kind of got caught between two diff techniques I use, wasn't committed, completely duffed each literally like 4 feet. Otherwise, did very good on being committed to shots, picking good lines, etc.

Had a lot of random thing I have had to do on my normal golf days and now just off of a 2 week vacation. Just before I left I was putting in range time and trying to fix my over the top move. Feeling good about it, especially off of the tee. Iron shots have become inconsistent.

Par 3 tourney at my course Wednesday then possible member member after that leading into a 2 day event at Innisbrook.

Tuesday night league is back for 24. Played skins and shot 48 with 20 putts. Driving was decent, but short game REALLY let me down.

Spoiler:
Started on hole 9: Par 4 387. Good drive down the left, leaving a wedge it. Struck it well, but ended up well past the pin and 3 putts, bogey. BLECH
Hole 1: Par 4 373. Pushed my drive a bit, leaving @ 200 in and thinned my second leaving me 110 in. Hit my 3rd just left of the green. Chip it close and make bogey.
Hole 2: is a short par 3, 180 downhill, plays 160. pulled my teen shot into a bunker. Good out, but still took two putts. Bogey
Hole 3: Par 5, 477. Good drive down the right leaving 220. Hit a hybrid to layup and sliced it. Wedge it to the front edge, then duff a chip, chip on and two putts. Double.
Hole 4: Par 4 377, Good drive, ended up 150 left, hit a 7iron to the left edge. Chip runs WAY past. 2 putts. Bogey.
Hole 5: Par 4 337. Good drive, leaving 130 in. 9 iron to the back of the green. Three putts. BOGEY.
Hole 6: Par 3 199. Hit a hybrid and absolutely smoked it, just off the back of the green. Hit a TERRIBLE chip, then manage to two putt from 30+feet. Bogey.
Hole 7: Par 4 350. Push a drive that ends up in a bunker. 120ish left, Try to hit PW and pull it into another bunker. Out to front fringe. Chip on, two putts. Double.
Hole 8: Par 5 460. Drive cuts, takes a bad bounce straight right and ends up in hazard. Drop and smash a hybrid that center punches a eucalyptus tree in the fairway. End up having to chip the next back into the fairway. PW from 120 to about 10 feet. Two putts. Double

My golf has been really high variance at the moment and finding it really hard to score.

Last week I think my front 9 went

Bogey,
Bogey,
Double,
Bogey,
Birdie,
Bogey,
Birdie,
Bogey,
Birdie,

I did make my first eagle of the year a day before that, Driving the green on the 9th and holing the putt. Think my handicap will trend upwards for a little bit. I have some really good scores coming off.

Talking about handicap the UK just converted to a new system not sure if you guys over the pond did. Every complaining about it at our club when for the most part it's basically the same.

What was the change over there? Here, you can now use 9 hole scores, and there were some other 'minor' changes.

So the way I understand it is that the Course rating and Par are being used.

For example.

My home course is a rating of 63.0 and Par is 69. In the old system of a index of 8.7 I would get a playing handicap of 7. Now with this new system I play off 1 with a 8.7. Everyone lost 6 shots at our course so it's pretty much the same as it's all relative. 63-69 (CR-Par) = -6

Some other stuff got added to like

- Small yardage courses can be allowed for handicap not sure on the exact min yardage.
- Better ball scores can be allowed for handicap (Not really sure how that works).
- They've allowed it where if you don't finish a handicap round they will assign you a score for the rest of your holes.

Ugh. Hit mostly good shots on the front and then completely lost it. So many things wrong with the swing right now. Good thing it's only April.

1st Medal of the season and like predicted I played terrible.

41-42-83 +14

I haven't shot that high in probably a good year or two around my local, a bad round for me is probably +7 or +8

Everything was off today, Didn't really find the middle of the face all day then that put a lot of pressure on my short game which I didn't have also and then that put a bit of pressure on my putting which was laughable at times.

Not really sure why I was so bad. Hopefully its me getting the reps in again and get back to my normal standard. Had a few guys after trying to gloat and rub it in on how bad my score was kind of pee'ed me off as it wasn't in a banterish way but it's w/e.

Actually played a half decent round today 69/123 Par 70

79 +9 my best around this place is 76 and could of quite easily beat that today.

Shocking putting. Drove the green on one short Par 4 granted it was a really tough pin but I ended up 4 putting. Had a few 3 putts as well. I really struggle with this putter on faster greens,

Drove the ball great miss hit one drive. Irons/wedges were pretty good overall.

Had a slight incident with the group behind. Young guy probably mid 20's. We were tee'ing off on 17 and its quite close to the 16th green he was just off it. We finished tee'ing off and I started walking didn't notice he was about to chip on. I eventually noticed and said sorry mate. He threw his nose up in the air and said its ok carry on mate in some attitude. I ended up calling him a "bellend" (English slang) and walked off. Way I saw it if you're not going to accept someone's apology then you can do one.

39-41-80. 1 birdie, 1 double bogey.

Same course as last week, played somewhat better. Certainly putted much better, I saved a handful of bogeys. Only one penalty also helped.

Finally put a decent enough score around my local today. +3 with the new handicap system this is bang on my handicap.

Bit of a up and down round though.

Bogey/Birdie start. Followed by 3 decent pars 2 of which are tough holes. 6th not sure what it is with this hole but off the tee I seem to hit a massive slice which is the complete opposite to my normal ball flight. End up unplayable take a drop way back. Pump out a 7 iron over these trees. Then have 4 iron in and put it in another bush another unplayable. Get up and down from there for a triple.

Par/Par/Birdie for +2 on the front.

Bogey/Par/Bogey/Par/Bogey start to the back

Par 15th Good drive meh 2nd shot but was fine have about 125 in. Hit a gap wedge front of the green and hole a 20 footer for Birdie.

16th short par 3, Hit a terrible strike but was right at the pin and it spun and stayed where it landed and have about 2 feet for Birdie hole that and Par 17 and 18 to finish to finish +1 on the back.

Good things Iron striking very good and full wedges very good. I have a 4 Iron and it's been so good for me goes about 200 when hit well which gets me out of a bit of trouble and I have no trouble when hitting off the deck. Crazy I find it so hard to get on with Hybrids and woods off the deck.

The bad a bit hit and miss with the driver at the moment. Chipping has been very poor but I think I just need a bit of practice with this and get off a bit of rust usually my strongest part of my game. Putting is meh at the moment mainly just pace I am holing a lot of putts from 5-8 feet though which is good.

We had our first comp off the grass tees yesterday and they didn't prep them at all they trimmed the top of them but no joke it was like thick rough. Not much of a problem with a driver for me anyway I tee high and hover for irons shots though it's terrible, Just have to get a nice lie a prop it up on the grass. I hit a 4 iron off the 190ish par 3 and it come out so dead and went about 150.

Greens have been in the best shape I've seen for a while though so they have done a good job with that + over the winter they have been re doing all the bunkers.

43-41-84. No birdies, 2 double bogeys.

First round of the season at the course I play most often. Ball striking was mostly better, including really good drives on the last three holes. Chipping is charitably described as erratic. Putting was shaky early but better on the back nine ... other than the 2 foot birdie putt I missed on 12. Doh.

I hit most of my bunker shots about 50 yards, including my first one today. Not ideal, considering I was greenside. But it worked out great the next time when I was in a bunker, this time it was one that left me a 50 yard shot to the pin. Course management!
