I spaced my fittings out over 3 years. My clubs were 25+years old. Irons year one. Woods and putter year 2. Wedges last year. I was surprised how much I learned from the wedge fitting.

You don't have to get it all this year. It's ok to space it out. I don't hit every green, so I use the wedges an awful lot and the fitting definitely helped. Now with the correct 2 wedges in my bag, it gave me different options around the green, options I hadn't considered before. And I'm a lot more confident and consistent. Also, I think the Vokeys were around $130 or so, if I remember right.

ntnBO - it makes me smile to see you offering constructive advice and feedback around here. you have a deep wealth of knowledge, and the few folks that still visit the thread (including me) can surely benefit from it.

Thanks, I try. I've been succeeding more often keeping the Tourette's in check.

don't keep the Tourette's completely in check or else we risk losing the original nitBO

The original nitbo always manually signed his posts though, who is this imposter?!

Everyone always says how great Callaway pre-owned is and the condition is always better than Callaway says. Well I'm now 3 for 3 in receiving something from them and being disappointed in the condition, maybe I'm too picky. This putter is supposed to be like new. Some definite wear spots and the grip is pretty worn and dirty (although that's not really showing up in the picture)

What do y'all think?

Meh that picture isn't really showing the spots.

Anyone use Utry? It's from Global Golf, they send you a new club or iron set, and you can use it on the course for 14 days. If you don't want to keep it you just send it back. Costs $25 which they deduct if you end up keeping the club.

Anyway I just tried it and got a Mavrik Max driver. Looking forward to trying it this weekend. I'm still gaming a Diablo Edge driver from 2009 so I'll be interested to see how it compares.

westhoff - what what your discount from market price for that putter and how much do you think eventual cosmetic wear will effect the performance?
and i'd be more concerned about wear spots on the face (which you didn't show) over wear spots on the top

What does any of this have to do with anything? It's supposed to be in like new condition and it's not. What does it matter what price it was, it could have been free. Obviously it's not really going to effect performance.

The Clicgear 4.0 is pretty awesome by the way, and really there are no problems at all with the straps at this point, so I'm thinking maybe I could get some decent input about whether I should try out a new driver. Of course this is a more complex consideration.

I have a TaylorMade Rocketballz driver and a TaylorMade Rocketballz 3 wood. I can hit the 3 wood satisfactorily for myself, but not so much the driver. Could I possibly do well to try a new driver, or should I just be content to work on my drive with the club I have?

I feel like I should be able to learn to hit much better with it with practice, and it is true that I haven't really practiced with it very much, but even so I'm still wondering whether trying a new model could possibly be a good idea. It's so difficult for me to hit the sweet spot on the one I have.

Drivers can definitely be personal so I think it's worth trying some others or even going for a fitting.

I have been using the same Diablo Edge driver since I took up golf 11 years ago. It is a very high launch and forgiving driver, so easy to get the ball in the air. But not great for distance. I had tried a Cobra King LTD which was about 30 yds longer - when I hit it solid, which I often didn't. Much lower flight, lower spin, less forgiving (for me). If I had a faster swing speed or different attack angle perhaps the Cobra would have been far superior for me.

I'm trying out a Callaway Mavrik Max this weekend but even if I like it I am planning to get fitted before I spend several hundred dollars on a new one.

this is the condition guide from their website. like new is not their highest grade (outlet is). if you don't think the putter meets these criteria, then return it.

Are you trying that driver from a store, and if so, is there a fee to try it out?

My semantics are a bit loose as what I really meant was to just go get a new one, but yeah, trying some out before buying a new one sounds like a really good idea. So does devoting an entire range session to hitting the driver I have, but no reason I can't do both.

I recently bought a new OGIO cart bag without too much thought, but I like it a lot, however a new driver is a whole different ball game, especially if they can be personal as you say.

For context I only drive it like 180 too.
So I'm a bit late to this, but I've strongly considered getting a 6i hybrid equivalent. I have JUST enough drop off in consistency with my 6i to 7i that I think it would be worth it. Only reason I haven't pulled the trigger yet is the way more course is set up the 6i is probably the least hit club in my bag, ha.

Wow I didn't even realize they do hybrids to 6i. How high do they go? And are they "legal"?

Yes, they are legal. A couple manufacturers make "all hybrid" iron sets and I guy I play with regularly has one (Clevelands). Not my cup of tea, but they're interesting.

Seems like most of the big players offer 2h, 3h, 4h, 5h and 6h lofts, though the 2h and 6hs are definitely harder to find and might have to be ordered.

I can't remember which kind of Ping you got, here's the page with the G410s, click on specifications to see what they offer

They're rare (used market, at least), but I know you can get a Ping 6i equivalent. Not sure how high they go, but don't know why they'd be illegal.

Yeah I ordered the driver from UTry golf, they ship a new one which you can use on the course at the range etc. for 2 weeks. It's a $25 fee for the trial.

Fitting is more expensive (about $100 for just a driver) but you get to try out several drivers and shafts, plus the expertise of the fitter to help, launch monitor data, etc... probably more cost efficient in the long run. There's a Callaway performance center at a courses near me, and they give $50 credit plus a free round of golf if you end up purchasing a driver from them... worth $100 total so the fitting is essentially free if you end up buying the club.

I got my TaylorMade p790s fitted at the PGA Superstore where I'm at, so I'm familiar with that process. Somehow I think I remember them doing free fittings, but I'm not sure. I might check out UTry golf some time.

What’s your handicap and how far do you typically fly your 7-iron? Curious about the fit. Also, what shaft did you get fitted for?

I don't consider myself to have played enough rounds for much in the way of an established handicap. I got a membership at my local course last November and before that I played a small local nine hole course where I tried to shoot just a single round at even par, but the best I could do was +1 over many rounds. On average I might shoot like +7 if I tried really hard, but could do worse if I was lax or frustrated. On the regulation course where I got my membership I probably do no better than bogie golf, but not too long ago I had a round where I was +3 through eleven, but ended up slipping and was at like +11 through 17, but was still satisfied by that round (it was too dark for the 18th).

My seven iron is typically like 150 yards, but if I really flushed one I could hit it a bit further.

I can't say too much about the fitting data-wise, because I didn't understand the process the guy went through. He marked the bottom of the club IIRC to measure something about the swing as it contacted the mat, and also measured my arms I think. Also, I was hitting balls into the screen with the launch monitors by the clubhead at address as well of course. It's a steel shaft if that helps, but that's about all I can say about the shaft without trying to find a tag or sticker that contains any other info.

If p790s sound "advanced" I should note that I was somewhat adamant about getting a club that was high quality and that a more advanced player might want. I had the TaylorMade Rocketballz irons before that, which I liked, but had broken too many heads and simply needed a new set. I decided to go with TaylorMade again.

That's about all I can say for the moment absent digging up additional info.

TLDR for some perhaps, but additionally, I recently got a 60 degree Mizuno wedge with 6 degrees of bounce to get a higher lofted wedge and low bounce thinking that would help in trying to learn a flop type shot.

My inspiration for that was a pretty funny story, and btw again I was adamant to a different guy at the same PGA store that I wanted a club that one could hit a flop shot with suggesting lower bounce might be the way to go? Anyway, I had recently hit a string of spinny soft landing flop shots on a practice green, which was unusual as I would normally just shank them, but also I used my 54 rather than 58 wedge, which made it doubly odd, but the 54 has a lower bounce, and with admitted confirmation bias, I discovered at least some source online suggesting a lower bounce wedge would be more ideal. The funny part is that I was only practicing flops because I was too tipsy to drive home from just a single tall can of strong beer I had playing a round on the previously mentioned local nine hole course. Needless to say I am not a drinker in any sense of the word.

I decided to check the sticker on one of the irons and it reads: True Temper, Dynamic Gold 105, and then R300 in smaller writing. Does that help at all in determining what shaft I was fitted for?

I played the little course again today and shot a +7, true to my self estimation, but ultimately disappointing I must say, save for my good shots.

Can I buy 2020 Titleist balls anyplace, or am I wasting my time looking. I checked their website and couldn't find last year's model.
