The golf watches work fine for most people, but I'll always be a range finder man. It's crazy how the few US open locals I've played the past few years make me feel so uncomfortable not being able to use technology. We used to do that for every tournament through college... don't trust sprinkler heads anymore.

Golf logix is basically what you're describing 14cobster, $50/year.
For me these technological considerations are mostly moot, since the potential benefits are largely beyond my level of play at this time. Right now I just want my watch to function properly.

As for your post, do you mean you were playing tournies at US open locales that don't allow certain technology?

US Open doesn't allow range finders/watches at any point during qualification. It's the only tournament I'll play in in a given year that I can't use it, which is just weird when you're so used to having exact yardages for every shot.

I see. That's cool that you play in a lot of tourneys. I'd probably ask questions about tourneys you play if it wasn't off topic, such as are there lots of marshals to clarify rules and how far have you gotten in U.S. Open qualifying etc. Sounds like fun, but not knowing certain rules in certain situations would probably stress me out just as much as the prospect of shanking a shot, which would be quite a bit, lol.

Heh. Naw, new one is lighter, but the price definitely helps. Old one I bought from this guy in the Hollywood district who sells used clubs as a hobby. He has SO MANY CLUBS, sold as sets and individual, lined up in his garage and in the front room of his house. I've bought 4-5 wedges from him over the years. The 60 that was too heavy had lead tape that I'd been too lazy to remove.

The laser travels in a straight line, so if there are undulations it can be difficult to find something to bounce it off of.

Which is not to say a rangefinder is less useful -- I'm on team rangefinder -- you just have to understand that it has its shortcomings.
I hate wearing a watch when I play, so I'm team laser (and probably still would be). You're right, it's hard to get the back of the green, usually, but you can usually get the front pretty easily.

Only times I wish I had a watch is when it's super foggy. Mine is supposed to work through some fog, but apparently the manufacturers didn't have winter mornings on the Oregon coast in mind.

Super Speed Golf. Once I am healthy and have given it an extra month after playing again I am going to start it up. Looked up my last TrackMan stats back during the Callaway demo day. All warmed-up I hit 117 mph, averaged 115. Goal will be to try and get to 125.

yeah, trying to use a laser on a foggy day is an exercise in futility.

Everything is magically 6 yards away.

Ha! Last year had to come back to the course first thing in the morning for a playoff in the soup. No chance at hitting the pin from 150ish, had to walk halfway in order to get the number and then pace it back. Didn't trust the sprinkler heads either.

The laser vs. watch is an interesting debate. Technically, if you don't need an exact number to the pin, the front and back numbers are overkill. However, since the goal of playing golf is to have fun, use whatever you enjoy the most.

Have been using a Mizuno MPH4 3iron as my driving iron and just picked up the 2iron version of ebay to see if I can get it airborne. 3iron seems to be 21* and 2iron 18*. Should arrive in time for my quick trip to Denver next week to see my family for Christmas and if so I'll jet into the fitter to hit a few on trackman and consider a shaft upgrade.

Then I want to add a 4 hybrid in place of my 3h and the top of the bag will be D, 3w, 2i/Di, 4h, 5iron and on...

Had my first indoor winter lesson of the off season yesterday. Hit a lot of shots on the Flightscope and have some good things to work on.

But I demo'd a TSi2 5w that was absolutely delightful. Felt easy to swing and really launch and the face felt super hot. Ball speed and distance were nice. I also hit the TM Sim 5w and I didn't like it as much and the TM heads with the two-tones doesn't look as good to me.

Didn't get anything but the more lofted fairway wood could be a good way to get some top of the bag gapping stuff figured out, too. Will wait for spring and hitting outside, though.

Hey guys, for those of you who use push carts, what models would you recommend?

I feel fine carrying my bag for nine holes, but after that, sadly, my body can't seem to handle it too well.

clicgear, and it’s not really close.

Thanks, it seems to get good reviews and it looks high quality. It seems like the 4.0 model is the new one.

I just ordered one. I don't think I've ordered anything so quickly! I got free shipping 2-8 days, and the price seems good if it's as good as you say. Txs again!

My gf has the 4.0 and it’s awesome.

I have a CaddyTek V8 explorer which is a 4 wheel model and I like it a lot. Narrower wheel base. Better umbrella attacher. Built in storage/cooler pocket. Cheaper.

This pretty much sums it up. I have the 3.5+, bought it several years ago.

I prefer the wider three wheels of clicgear. seems to be easier to maneuver and more stable, especially when you let it run downhill by itself. can also buy a bunch of attachments (like a cooler/storage)

You'll get arguments about pretty much every piece of golf equipment/accessory, but for golfcarts you'll rarely hear anyone recommend anything but clicgear.

It's cheap (especially if you consider quality and how long it'll last), folds down smaller ( and easier) than any other cart I've seen and it's one of those products where you just know it's pure quality from the moment you start using it.

My only complaint about my 3.0 is that it's so sturdy that even after all these years and all the abuse it has suffered, I still can't justify getting a newer, fancier model...

(Actually I guess one more complaint, and the only real reason I want a newer model, is that the storage compartment on the 3.0 is secured only by a magnetic lock, that, while really quite adequate, will pop open if it's stuffed too full and turned upside down for storage in the trunk. There has been some ball-chasing around the parking lot on occasion...

Newer models have a better lock for it, but I could easily make something better for my current one myself I guess (or just stop trying to jam every ball I find during a round into it...)

i also have a 3.0 that i've owned for 8 or 9 years. i've had to replace the brake cable a couple of times, but it's pretty cheap and easy since the parts are available on their site.
the price per round has to be one or two bucks per by now.

The brake cable is the only thing I've had to replace too - and it was probably mainly because for years I used it as a brake while going down hills and not just to make the cart stay in place.

Only issue I have atm is that the straps keeping the bag secured are getting a bit frayed, but if and when they break they're cheaply replaced too so guessing I'll stick with my 3.0 for quite a few years still.

Also - I rented a clicgear 3.5+ at a course while travelling a few years back and I couldn't figure out how those new strap clamps worked. I'm sure there's some logic to them, but there and then the two circles made no sense and I just managed to loosely hook the straps together in a manner that I'm sure was nowhere near how they were actually supposed to work.

There may be some reason they're better, but so far I can't see why the simple hook-method of the 3.0 isn't both simpler and just as effective.

My short Par 4 package this month came with a pair of Calloway pants which have an elastic waist and no belt loops along with a zipper at the bottom that goes up the side. I'm guessing these are rain pants? Stupid question: Do you wear these as pants to bring them to wear over your pants if it rains? They seem bigger than normal pants (longer and baggier) so that's why I'm asking.

Sounds like rain pants. Wear them over regular pants (or shorts)

more important questions: do they have zippers in the pockets and/or have a zipper fly?
zippers in the pockets let you access the pockets of the pants or shorts you're wearing under them (convenience) and the reason to have a zipper fly is obvious (convenience)
