is your free brand new Vokey also heavier than you'd like or does the price make it lighter?

Bought a PXG blackjack 35 inch putter. A friend of mine bought one a while back, and I literally could not hit it off line. When I saw one sitting in my friend's golf shop where I had some credit I just went for it. Putted with it for a while today on crummy greens and was still making a ton of stuff, excited to take it to Florida next week.

I'm pretty sure I'd hear Bob Parsons yelling "WE OPTIMIZED EVERYTHING BABY!!!1!" in my sleep if I bought one of those.

Then again, if I could actually make putts, I'd probably be OK with that.

PXG makes really underrated putters. Their wedges are wonderful too, just psycho expensive for something that wears out so fast.

50*, 54*, and 58* Callaway MD5 Jaws wedges from CPO in 'like new' condition, added Golf Pride New Decade MCC Plus 4 grips for $11 each. i fully expect they'll still have the plastic and stickers on them.
TGW currently has them for $160, i used a 20% off code at CPO and got them for $113 each including the grip.

took part of my savings and paid $35 to have them overnighted so i can use them sunday.

this will be the first time in my life that I haven’t played with Vokey wedges.

Hope it works for you. Me, not so much. Granted I only had a Hi Toe 60*. I never really hit it great out of the bunker. Go back to a Vokey, boom, super easy again.

In July I purchased a Garmin Approach S20 GPS golf watch. Lately it seems to switch from the main screen that essentially shows the yardage to the center of the green to other menu screens at random.

Have any of you had this watch or a similar Garmin watch that has this issue? It doesn't make it unusable, but it is a little annoying to say the least. I checked to see if I was able to 'accidentally' push the buttons on the side by bending my wrist, but was unable to, leading me to conclude that I wasn't pushing them during my swing. I think it's just shifting menus at random.

This isn't helpful at all - I realize this and I'm sorry, but I just don't understand why someone buys golf watches instead of just getting a range finder?

Range finders gets you the distance to anything you're looking at in seconds and it does not depend on the course you're at being mapped or anything. It just works. Everywhere.

Why are 'golf watches' even a thing?

I’ve never used one but play with people that do. They really like the front/middle/back numbers they get.

Yes, but front/middle/back is gotten just as easily, and more accurately with a range finder. And it'll also get you the exact number to where the pin is that day, which the golf watch won't.

I see the point that it's useful on the occasions when you're facing blind shots on courses you haven't played before, but for me at least getting a golf watch for those rare times is overkill.

I’ve posted this before, but one of the guys in our large group uses both a watch and a laser. He plays off of 20 and neither helps him at all, yet he can easily add 30+ minutes minutes to a round with his routine

I agree with everything you said, but for me the speed and convenience with which I can check the watch on my wrist was the priority. I don't feel like I'm at the level where I would want to take a range finder off of my bag and look through it when the watch is much quicker. I can add or subtract yards based on pin placement, and for now that it is good enough, especially considering that curiosity about the distance is just as compelling as strategic considerations.

However, I can't check distances to various landmarks on the fairway or in the front of the green, which is a minus for sure, although I could get a rangefinder as well for those instances. Furthermore, I only recently started playing on courses, and only on non-executive courses this past month, so initially, checking landmarks was of much less significance on the short courses.

But I almost forgot, what I also really like about the watch is the ability to record my score on it. I enjoy that feature perhaps even more than the distance measurement and would probably keep wearing it anyway if I were to get a rangefinder, which I probably eventually will.

But for now the ultimate convenience of just looking down at my wrist has been compromised by the watch's obnoxious tendency to switch of the main screen for no apparent reason.

Without that extra 30 minutes he'd be a 22.

I have a Garmin S60. I only bought it because I had $350 in Amazon gift cards to use. I basically use it to keep score and know how far it is to front/middle/back of green. It's also cool to look at post round on the phone app and see how far each shot went and stuff like that.

One big problem is that it constantly doesn't detect shots. Like, I'll look at the app after the round and it will have missed first 2 shots on a par 5 and shows that I hit a 520 yard drive. Dumb.

I'm certain I'd prefer a reliable range finder.

While the second part of that is true, assuming that you have a clear line of sight (i.e. not a blind shot), the first part is not. One of the limitations of a range finder is that you have to have a target to shoot at. The laser travels in a straight line, so if there are undulations it can be difficult to find something to bounce it off of.

Which is not to say a rangefinder is less useful -- I'm on team rangefinder -- you just have to understand that it has its shortcomings.

I use both. Watch is great for quick yardages and I would argue that it’s a lot quicker and more accurate to the front or back than grabbing the rangefinder and trying to hit something at the front or back. Especially if it drops off the back. Or if there is a bunker front did you hit the bunker lip - is it 2 yards beyond that or 5 to the front. Plus once I’m beyond 180 the middle of the green is really all I’m going for and for 2nd shots on par 5s that are reachable just knowing if the middle is hybrid or 3w or just what the approx garage to lay it up to 80y

And the “measure shot” feature with watches is also valuable I’ve found and have discussed. Nice to measure a drive or see how far you hit a shitty 7 iron that comes up short right.

It seems like there should eventually be a phone sized tablet that just shows you a google satellite image of the course where you can simply touch different points on the course and get immediate yardage. I would think the technology for that practically exists already. Would be nice.

I see. It's an app that gives real time yardage to various landmarks.

Maybe a stand-alone device though that is even better will come along..

I find the golf logix app works pretty well, and I usually use it on new courses mostly to get lines off the tee. Also interesting to take a look at the greens book on new courses just to get a feel for the different parts of the green.

The golf watches work fine for most people, but I'll always be a range finder man. It's crazy how the few US open locals I've played the past few years make me feel so uncomfortable not being able to use technology. We used to do that for every tournament through college... don't trust sprinkler heads anymore.

Golf logix is basically what you're describing 14cobster, $50/year.
