I like the hop/hop/stop/
I have been losing some distance and clubhead speed as I approach 60, and found that the Bridgestone 330s, e6 or e7 (forget which one) were giving me more distance on all clubs and only slightly worse performance on the greens than the Pro-vs.
Right now though it seems like Bridgestone has about 10 different balls.
Does anyone have any recommendation for a good high end ball that is a bit longer than a pro-v but performs OK around the green?
Not looking for you folks to do my research homework. But I am interested in what you might have found that works for you..
So, I messed around with some balls. Scottc25 suggested the AVX. I tried a sleeve. They didn't seem any longer and when I got closer to the green, they were not as good as ProVs.
I really like the Bridgestone Tour B RXS. I am getting up there in age and Driver is probably 95-100. This ball is for swing speeds less than 105.
It is about 5-7 yards longer on every iron. Full shots into the green stop about the same as the ProV. Putting. No difference.
The difference comes right where I would have expected it to come. Those 50 yard or less pitches, (whether a normal pitch, or back in the stance SW that goes fairly low, hop/hop/stop).
The Bridgestone is just not as consistent nor does it stop as quickly on close, low compression shots around the green. The hop/hop/stop I had with the Prov is now hop/hop/ roll out 6-8 feet with the Bridgestone.
Anyway, have been using the Bridgestone except when conditions are dry and greens are not holding well, then I use the ProV.
Objectively the trade off is really not worth changing from ProV. But, subjectively, I like it. Plus, I find the Bridgestone more penetrating into the wind. My ProV gets punished into a headwind way more, it seems.
Edit. I have no idea why Bridgestone thinks having 12 or more different men's balls is a good way to get a bigger market share. It seems they are just itching for info overload and confusion, and inventory management problems. Unless they are moving out of the e series altogether.???
